... what costume/look should the figure have? I'd definitely not want a repeat of the Mego 'pirate' look, though it was based on the costume from the time. So which look then? There are many to choose from

That version would have more color and "play-ability" for kids than any of the tight outfits with the mask, however I am partial for the gray outfit with the belt as seen at the top of the picture.

Purple dress is the way to go. Mego should have done it that way as well. I HATED the Mego pirate Catwoman and pretty much disowned her when I got her as a gift.
