    Series 5 in 2010

Doctor Who to return for fifth series in 2010

After months of media speculation, the BBC can confirm that the BAFTA
award-winning Doctor Who will return for a fifth series in Spring
    2010.

Viewers are in for a treat this Christmas, as a special episode starring
David Tennant and Kylie Minogue will be broadcast on BBC One in December
    2007.

Series Four, which went into production in July 2007, will hit UK
screens in Spring 2008, followed by a special episode for Christmas
    2008.

In 2009 Doctor Who will return with three specials starring David
Tennant, with Head Writer, Russell T Davies.

The full-length fifth series will transmit in 2010.

Jane Tranter, Controller, BBC Fiction, says: "Doctor Who is one of the
BBC's best loved and most successful dramas. Its journey over the past
three series has been one of the most ambitious and exciting that we
have had, and I'm delighted to be able to confirm not only three
exciting specials for 2009, but a fifth series in 2010. "

Menna Richards, Controller, BBC Wales, says: "The success of Doctor Who
is a fantastic tribute to the dedication and expertise of the production
team at BBC Wales who have worked on the project from the outset. This
announcement is marvellous news for all involved, and more importantly
for the programme's amazing fan base and audience. BBC Wales is looking
forward to producing the fifth series."

Following the critically acclaimed season three finale, the BBC has
announced that Catherine Tate is set to return to the TARDIS for the
complete 13-week run of series four, reprising her role as Donna from
    the 2006 Christmas special.
Freema Agyeman, who won praise for her portrayal of Martha Jones in
series three, is also set to return mid series four.

I suspect Tennant will die and regenerate in a 2009 "special" --- perhaps a full blown Children in Need TV movie.
Rusty will probably leave with him.
....... Leaving 2010 with a new Doc and new producer.

50% of me is sad at this very possible reality ........
but, the other 50% of me is looking forward to what's next.

I like Tennant, but i'm kind of getting tired of him and especially Rusty.

I'd be happy with a new Doctor and a new producer, not so much with just a new Doctor. I'm a little tired of Davie's inability to write a decent ending.

I'm not a fan of Davies either.......

He seems to be good at building up a story, but is really bad at the final delivery of it.

        Tennant......
I hate to quote... but a person on another site said,, "I'm getting tired of that smug SOB looking down at everyone through his glasses and constant upturned nose."

I hate to say it, but i'm starting to see the above description more and more lately.

I'm glad to hear Tennant's sticking around a bit longer, it means we won't be running out of Doctor's just yet

I just got BBC America for the first time a few weeks ago.

The first thing that let me down was there's no classic Who's to be seen on BBC-A.

Why doesn't BBC-A carry the classic series ?

Hmmm...I thought they did. I had heard they played the classic series on Saturday afternoons.

Why only 3 specials in 2009? No full season/series for `09? Isn't that kind'a strange? What's that all about?

That probably has a lot to do with the news leak that Davies wanted to close up shop after season 4. BBC no doubt tried to find a way of keeping him around a little longer.

Here in Canada we get "BBC-Kids" and they show the original Doctor.

About 4 or 5 years ago, BBC-A were running the first three seasons of T. Baker's run (which I taped). They've not shown any classic Who since that I know of. I think they have to bid on the shows the same as anyone and just haven't plunked down the cash (this is speculation).
