I went by Toy Fair this afternoon to check out Emce's booth and get a first-hand look the new figures. I see that most of the figrues have already been posted, so I'll limit my pics.
OTHER NEWS- Diamond Select wouldn't let me take pictures, but they did have the two new fantastic 8-inch Retro lines.
Star Trek- They had 4 new Mego-inspired figures- Christopher Pike, Marta, Nurse Chapel and the Salt Monster! They looked pretty good witht he Salt Monster being a pretty faithful reproduction. Chapel's sculpt was pretty good actually, but Marta's was a bit wanting. (In fact, Maybe it wasn't Marta. Marta was the green woman played by Yvonne C i realraig, right?)
Universal Monsters- These were just plain incredible. I really wished I could have taken pics of these to share. The outfits were spectacular and I really liked the sculpts. I am not a big monsters fans, but I will definitely pick these up.
I'm updating this with some pics from the Emce booth. It will take a few minutes.

Which Universal Monsters were shown? Are they realistic sculpts, or vintage style? Are they faithful to the look of the monsters in the films, or take liberties?
This is great news. Can't wait to see photos.

Sorry, I've been battling some computer problems and didn't see the responses.
The had the big 4- Wolfman, Drac, Mummy and Frankenstein. I have to admit, I'm not an expert on this so I can't really say how well the sculpts represented the actors from the films. I will say they seemed pretty darn good. The one that really caught my eye was the Wolfman. I felt like they all were closer to actor likenesses.

I feel pretty inept for not taking a closer look. I do remember really liking the Mummy's outfit also. I couldn't get that close to the Trek figures. There was a pretty sizeable group in front of them. Mainly retailers ordering cases of the adjacent minimates.

Here's to hoping for a CFtBL in Universal land. I would love to see a modern 8" creech. It would keep me from kicking myself so hard for passing on Bertos. ;)

I think the Monsters all look very nice. But they are just not quite totally there yet for me. Other than the Aurora inspired Mummy, maybe they are just a tiny hair too generic in likeness. But of course they are all prototypes and always look much different with factory roto cast heads. They are all still must have figures.

I'm really excited to see my favorite toys revived--and how!!
Seeing new Megos for DC Comics, Star Trek, Twilight Zone, and Monsters really takes me back--keep 'em coming!
Universal Monsters in Mego format. This may be the most amazing new lineup announcement for the 8 inch format this year, all respect given to the awesome new lines from BBP, etc. OUT OF CONTROL COOLNESS!
Oh yeah, it is awesome to see Diamond finally making Nurse Chapel, 2 years after I turned down that figure as an exclusive (along with Yeoman Rand). I'm thrilled with all of the new TOS figures.

Wow, that is awesome news about the Uni Monsters. That Mummy head sculpt is simply fantastic. And that is John's (Type3Toys) Wolfman, right? He certainly captures the Lon Chaney likeness. Drac and Frankie are very nice as well. And that Trek lineup sounds awesome. The only thing missing is poor Harry Mudd. Great news all around.

Yep, John has designed the Wolfman. He also the designed the Frankenstein and Mummy suits.

Wow, I'm so jazzed about the Universal Monsters - because I was honestly always so disappointed by Mego's set (other than Frankenstein's Monster). That Dracula is on my 'wish come true' list. The Glenn Strange-style Monster is cool by me. The Karloff-looking Mummy and the Wolf-Man are great!
Pretty impressive how closely these resemble Universal's current 'official' brand designs and likenesses for these guys. That must have taken some very careful work on the part of the figures' designers and been under some very careful scrutiny by Universal.
And given the Sideshow Universal lines - which I'm also a fan of - the nice thing about these is that they say 'toy!' to me, which the Sideshow stuff does not. I just hope the price-point also reflects that!
Win!

I'm starting to realize this, too. I actually have mixed feelings- so much Mego-y goodness for which I'm psyched, but how much more money and space am I going to need.
I accepted I was going to buy the non-Mego produced Retro heroes and villians. That, of course, goes for the new Trek figures. And oh yeah, I gotta have those Venture Bros figures, too. Now these incredible Universal Monsters. And whose idea was it to make those Twighlight Zone figures so darn cool?!?!
Its really an embarrassment of riches for Mego fans!

I'm loving the Universal Monsters! These might be my favorite announcement so far. Definitely planning on picking up one of each.
Couple of observations: First, the Mummy prototype's head is taken directly from the Aurora Mummy model kit. It's an exact replica. I'm guessing this was done because of time constraints? Or the sculpt isn't done yet? Would it be safe to assume that the final product will have an original sculpt?
Second, Frankenstein is probably my favorite monster, the prototype looks great! However, I find myself wishing they had put him in black clothes and black boots. Would be a bit less colorful, but a bit more in line with how he looks in the movies. But hey, I'll still buy one with a smile on my face!
The Wolf Man and Drac look great. 'Nuff said! I hope this line sells well enough to warrant a second wave. I'm dying to see a Mego-style Creature!!!!!

The Karloff-looking Mummy and the Wolf-Man are great!
The Mummy is based on the one-eyed Kharis Mummy play by Tom Tyler and Lon Chaney Jr. Yes, well, nevermind. Too much nerd info, lol. :smiley1:
Anyhow, I think the outfits on them all look great. Especially the Mummy.
Now the sculpts.
The Wolfman is a great sculpt but it looks more Flattworld style than Mego. Dracula is a little too smooth on details right now and his expression is a little bland. Maybe an arched eyebrow would give him a little more pizzazz. Frank is too weathered for Karloff style and not weathered enough for Strange.
Don't get me wrong, they are great looking figures. But I think a tiny bit of fine tuning could really knock them out of the park.

I have to say I was somewhat giddy when I saw that. :smiley1: I'm hoping that head sculpt stays true to the Kharis look, as we have a lot more Karloff Imhotep figures out there in general.

I agree with you. I am also excited they went with the Glen Strange Frankenstein instead of the Karloff version.
Yeah, I think that head sculpt does a good job of capturing the Glen Strange Frankie. Can't wait for these to hit the shelves. Given that I have your Wolfman custom, I feel like I have the Wolfman prototype sitting in my case already!
