I'm pretty sure he snagged these at San Diego Comic Con last year, new name , old seller. I doubt he sells many nowadays.

I wonder if there is something that can be put on the cards, a legal phrase or something that makes it unlawful to resell.

That way, they could be instantly pulled from any Ebay listing.

In Germany and some other countries, it is illegal to buy and sell anything related to the Third Reich with the exception of postage stamps. I don't know if Ebay still does this but they would pull all listings of any military type items even if it was in the United States that was German memorabilia that had a swatiska on it since it was considered offensive especially to those in some European Countries even if it was a piece of militaria and sold as a collectible piece rather than some piece of propaganda.

I can't really stop people from taking them at shows I leave them at and selling them, I can however prevent hoarding thanks to my new "Kirk Spock Only" initiative at shows I attend.

What's more offensive to me was a recent event where a non member of the Museum requested cards and I sent them to him gratis, I then found a thread online where he's slagging the museum.

These cards have become monsters in the hobby and people want them badly

AS long as these cards are still hot .........

We should all get together .... and put a full set on ebay.

We could state in the auction, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Jerry's kids or some other worthy charitable cause.

Have the winning bidder make their MO out directly to the charity.

The only thing,
Re-thinking this,
I dunno if even good publicity is a good thing for these cards.

Another thing: How would you even know if the buyer paid if you have them send the MO directly to the charity?

That part's easy .....
They would mail the MADE OUT TO OUR CHARITY money order to us first.
When we get it, we send out the cards to them ..... and send the MO to the charity.
Since it's a MO and the charity's name is on it.... , the buyer will feel totally safe no shenanigans can happen.

Mike that is a fantastic idea. I think it could work.

Museum cards should NOT be sold for any reason, regardless of who gets the money.

They were created to be given away for FREE to promote the museum.

PERIOD!

If everyone has so many extra cards then list them in the trading card thread so other members can complete their sets.

Agreed. Even tho it's a noble thought I think Museum members should get the chance to complete their set first

I agree too. Even if the cause is of good nature once we sell any cards for whatever reason it'll discredit everything we've said about not saling the cards and that they are free.

I agree. The idea is good but then it looks like we are talking out of both sides of our mouth. Since these cards seem to be such a big hit even among museum members, a complete set would be a great item for the next Museum raffle.

This is also just a suggestion, don't know if it would work. Maybe at the conventions where these cards are distributed, hand them to some honest dealers who are willing to hand them out one per person rather than allowing someone to walk up and grab a whole handful of the same card only to show up on Ebay soon after.

That's definitely the approach we're using now, when it isn't the case then only two very common cards will be available.

The apes series will not be publicly available at all, only through here and only through members, I'll be laying that plan out shortly but it involves you guys.

As for the ebay starter kits, that's coming to an end. It's a nightmare to deal with that many people (some folks need to brush up on tact) and I'm noticing the same folks buying them over and over again. I haven't got real umbrage towards that but it does defeat the spirit of the cards.

The ape idea sounds interesting.

When do you plan on announcing the plans?

It makes me laugh to think what that Mego laminated yellow brick road poster you made a few years ago would fetch on Ebay.

The big question is: since the release of the cards what is the estimate on the amount of additional members that would be attributable to the card program. I'm sure there is a baseline amount of new members and then above that would be those that joined as a result of the cards.

Maybe it has already been discussed but I'd be curious to know.

When do you plan on announcing the plans? .

When it's ready to launch or close to it, we're looking at mid September.

Heh, I can't imagine much.

You know I'm not really sure we have any sort of data on this, so much has happened to the museum in the course of two years, Scott's redesign, the blog, my space, Joe and Anthony's rebuild on the forums, world's greatest toys, Dave's work on customego and Joe's google mastery, it's hard to say what's responsible.

What I will say is, we're experiencing record hit counts, off the chart. What other sites do in two months, we're doing a day here.

I should know, I'm one of those other sites!

That's fanatastic news....

I wonder if the Ebay spike in Mego's that everyone is all abuzz about lately has anything to do with the museum.

Hi guys,

Sorry for suggesting the charitable donation/auction idea a few pages back.

I apologize to all , and will not mention it again.

Definitely no need to apologize Mike, your heart was in the right place. It's just that selling these, no matter how good the reason, goes against everything these cards stand for.

I personally thought it was a great idea,if someone was going to make some money why not do it for a good cause? But I do see what others mean and that these were not made to be sold
