View Full Version : `Grail` pieces from toy lines

English Paul
Aug 30, '07, 2:01 PM
Most of us dabble in toy lines other than Mego. I`m just wondering what are considered `grail` pieces from the stuff out there, Mego included.
Grail pieces can still be fairly easy to get but are usually the last purchase on a list.

Some that spring to mind are...

Tie Bomber from SW die cast series
Blue Snaggletooth and VC Jawa from vintage SW
Humanoid from the Mego Black hole line
Venus Space Probe from SMDM

Feel free to add anything you can think of.........

Tim,
is that AHI or Funstuf. I thought there was a "grappling hook" based on the Spidey Web Shooter.

I've been wanting to get the Takara one for quite some time. Great toy. I have the Medicom '64 Godzilla, so that will have to do in the meantime.

To continue with Godzilla toys, some grails would be the 1960's Marusan Plamodels (plastic model kits), especially the Giant Godzilla one, but the standard Godzilla one, along with Baragon and Ebirah, are also insanely rare and expensive, espeically MIB (we are talking thousands of dollars each).

For Godzilla vinyls, grails would probably be the Bullmark Mechagodzilla and Megalon, or for Bandai vinyls, the bronze, large "Great Monsters" version of Godzilla. The Bullmark tin wire-controlled Gigan and die-cast Angilas are also quite pricey and difficult to find.

For Japanese toys in general, the Jumbo Machinder Garada K-7 is probably at the top, rarity (maybe 3 known examples in existance?) and price wise. Many of the other Jumbo Machinders are tough and expensive too, especially the villians (in my opinion, JMs would probably be the most expensive and difficult toy line to complete).

I don't collect gi joe but I would say the GI Nurse. I had the chance years ago to buy 2 GI Nurses from a doll shop for 900 for both but didn't take the offer as I knew they were rare but didn't know their worth then of course when I did find out I went back and they were of course gone!

Man, the Grappling Hooks (both types) are a real flashback. I hadn't thought of them in years, but instantly remembered them when they were mentioned in this thread.

Any pictures out there of them?

Fun thread!

The already mentioned Garada K-7 Jumbo Machinder (Shogun Warrior) would do it for me. I dream of finding one at a garage sale lol!
Read about someone who did find one here (http://toyboxdx.com/ramblearchive/2006/k7/). If one popped up on ebay today it would go for some crazy money, probably 25K+

In vintage tin robot land maybe a boxed Diamond Planet or perhaps the recently identified Mechanical Commander Robot (http://danefield.com/alpha/forums/Holy-Grail-t6537.html).

I collect vintage hotwheels and was lucky enough to pick up my #1 grail from that line a year or so ago, here's a pic:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/Sowth/250807064.jpg

1973 Snake "6969" casting, only available for one year. I decided a few years back that it was better to collect 1 nice htf vintage car every year than heaps of modern $2 cars. I ran out of space big time a while ago and have been off-loading lots of stuff since then, it has been cathartic and the whole money coming in/boxes of crap going out thing has been a hit at my place!

A final grail for me would be a sealed LEGO Classic Space 928 Galaxy Explorer (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/928) (497 to our North American friends). My brothers and I had this as kids and it morphed into the Millenium Falcon, Battlestar Galactica and Star Destroyer countless times in it's long life, I still have some of those pieces somewhere.

Cheers!
Will

Dave - the original fire helmet for the Action Jackson fire fighter set was a silver plastic one marked Mego inside. I don't know what you found at the show but I don't think that is from this set. The "traditional" version is a silver cloth one made of the same shiney material as the suit. I have seen a few of them in my time but not many.

I had four of these as a kid. There were three dinosaurs, including the two you show, and a hippo. I remember my mom kept envelopes in the box top the hippo came in for years! I also remember the eyes on the dinosaurs light up. I used to walk mine under the couch and would get the control wires wrapped around the legs until they eventually broke. I still played with the dinosaurs after that, they just didn't need batteries any more! I believe there is a picture of these in the 1970's JC Penney catalog if you would like me to find it.

El Acertijo (ridler) was produced by Plastiorama in Argentina and is about as rare as a Mr Miracle MOC. Definitely behind cyborg on us card

Captain rey is based on a columbian comic book character. I have seen 2 ever on ebay 1 moc went for 4000 about 3 years ago and I got a loose on for 400 last year here is some info about him

I thought FR Fett was an unproduced item. I know several prototypes were developed bnut thoguht it never got to final production.

You're correct, it only exists in prototype form (and fakes abound too). The closest production item to this is that some Lili Ledy Fetts had removable (but not firing) rockets.
