It will be interesting to see if this actually happens but I definitely think it's the wrong approach.

Well, it's hard to know what exactly he means by that, it should be a fun movie for kids and adults.

It sure reads better than him saying "I see this as dark and gritty"

hurm. "action comedy" can mean many things. Princess Bride? sure, i'd love to see a Shazam movie with that tone.

but since its being directed by Peter Segal, the auteur behind Nutty Professor II and Tommy Boy, im betting theyre'll be a lot of fart jokes and Sivana getting hit in the nuts.

*sigh*

If its action comedy ala the CC Beck issues of the Adventures of Captain Marvel, fine. If its action comedy ala Rush Hour, bleh.

Why do the feel the need to make superhero movies as a comedy? I dont like the idea

I really have little care or memory of the character beyond my childhood Mego figure. That being said the last thing I want is another crappy superhero movie... it could get worse. they could cast ben Stiller as Captain Marvel

The big red cheese lends himself to comedy (ala the live action Tick show). If they play him right this could be great but it is a fine line between funny and stupid. I really hope they use the young billy boy in a man's body riff becuase it will work (think Brenden Fraser in blast from the past ot Tom hanks in Big) But iff they make him too caricature you get Jim Carey in the mask.

If they do it like the Tom Hanks movie BIG..... Kid in a Mans body then I can see it working. Many People forget that CC Becks version and Best version of Cap was a Humorous comic not the serious straight forward typical superhero. I think if they went that way It would be boring and forgetable......You have to think of a preteen in a Superheros body and how he would react.

Exactly! Some of the Fawcett Captain Marvel stories are laugh out load funny. If the powers that be can tap into that, it will be a great movie.

Action Comedy appeals to a broader audience. I think Spider-man's big success was Sam Rami's ability to appeal to comic book junkies (even though there were some artistic liberties taken) as well as make it humorous with romance to appeal to a movie genre that would not normally go see this type of movie.

Rami's movies worked because he was a big Spider-Man fan and understood the character but the story is what sold it.

When Transformers was released a few people moaned and groaned about the side comedy story and that it should have been more action oriented. A female co-worker was groaning that she was going to see Transformers with her husband but really didn't want to go because it wasn't "her type of movie". I told her I thought she would like it even if she isn't into fist fighting robot movies.

She came in the next morning and said she loved it and thought it was hilarious. Without the side story, she would have walked in and said terrible action flick.

^^^ Spidey should have some humor in it, the self depreciating type that runs thru the Ditko/Lee stuff and the 67 cartoon. Captain Marvel needs that lighter whimsical slant of the Beck stuff or its just another Superman movie.

I always thought the Character was a Joke anyway...so Yeah...it being a Comedy makes sense to Me.

Cap at one time outsold Superman and was more popular...Had the Better movie seriel....National(DC) feared that and went after Fawcett...which eventually lead to their Demise....DC bought and brought back Cap and he had a bit of a comeback....But times had changed.

Outside of Jerry Ordways hardcover and TPB version which is an awesome version....the regular Series was good. No one has really been able to recapture the Magic that made Captain Marvel awesome.

"Action Comedy" ??? Well another good hero bites the dust.

Even if they mean he is a suave, wise-cracking guy like Burt Reynolds in Smokey & the Bandit it still won't work. He doesn't have to be Superman but he shouldn't be blatantly comedic.

My first reaction reading this was  I'm personally sick and tired of "stupid" movies nowadays...especially in the comedy vein...it sounds like a modern day take on West's Batman...which it seems people either love it or hate it...
