OK, I sold this mammoth to some one in Japan. I got it boxed up into two boxes, I will not give you the dimensions. Who ever guesses closest to the actual shipping cost I am going to use (the least expensive rate) will win a plethora of prizes, HW Batmobiles, MM cards, and others.
I will give you this hint, it is too big to ship USPS because of Japan's size regulation on their mail.

You have won a couple HW Bat Mobiles, some MM cards (any dups I have) and a large collection of unsorted DC and Marvel cards. I am not sure what is in there other than it is comic cards from the 90's and ALOT of them all in 3-ring binder sheets.
But Wait - Since we played "The Price Is Right", now we are gonna play "Lets Make A Deal!"
You can take these prizes or take the prize I just PM'ed to Russ!!!
Russ, don't tell him what it is!!!

Woo Hoo!
Since a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush....I will take the prizes described above.
What was behind door #1?
Also what are the dimensions of that ship? It looks like it has to be about 8 feet long about 4 feet at its tallest point. I have to imagine the packaging cost a lot too. Did you woodcrate it or use cardboard?

Well, first, lets see what you passed on:

Th ship is 7.5 feet long put together, but breaks down to 42 x 28 for the biggest piece.
The dimensions of the two boxes are
One is 29 x 21 x 24 = 119"
and the deck is 46 x 4 x 30 = 114"
Max for USPS (actually Japan mail is 108")

I feel sorry for the peeps in Japan since the USPS changed their rates.
Japan has always been a GREAT and respected USA eBay country to ship to..
I just shipped an LP there this month ......
Cost like 25+ -ish bucks-- with insurance.
For a lousy cheap record.........
Seems like USPS should be working with our FRIENDLY trading partners-- rather than distancing them from us ...

your problem was insurance (a waste of time in my experience--wait till you actually try to make a claim--good luck!)
Shipping to Japan for one Lp is around $13 via first class international air mail.

The packaging wasn't too bad because I did it myself at that same packaging store. It was only $24. I used double corrugated cardboard. Weight is no factor with FEDEX, size only, so these heavy boxes didn't add to the cost of shipping. If they would have boxed them, it would have been over $50 for the package. For the largest deck piece, I just used a framed picture box. The two boxes were $10 apiece or so, and the peanuts were $4.

I am wondering if this guy is gonna keep this thing or gonna re-sale it. It sold for $305, so he will have $685 invested into it. I wonder if this brings bigger money in Japan, like alot of toys.

i think most toys here do . thats why when you ship internationally you get more money becuase they can resell them higher over there. mike

My wife and I have shipped stuff to and from Japan quite a bit, so I'm not too surprised about your shipping cost. This item wouldn't be too heavy, but the size of the boxes will kill you, postage wise. We've sent large, but a bit heavier, boxes by sea mail (took over a month to ship) and even they cost around $100.00 to ship.

Hard to say. I'm not aware of the 3 3/4" Joes being widely collected in Japan (I don't remember ever seeing any for sale at used toy stores over there), but I guess there must be a few collectors. I'm sure this will end up being one of the few USS Flags in a Japanese collection.

Groan, I would really hate to add up how much I have paid for shipping over the years, living so far away from everyone. Sigh.
