Pretty cool, but the Batman TV show is public domain? I doubt it

While Fox is yet to release the 66 Batman TV series to home video, I do believe the copyright is still maintained. The dispute I understand is between Fox and Warner Bros.
This is "hear say": I've been informed by video collectors that there is tolerance of collector to collector trade of Bootleg video only of that which is not available in a licensed form. Once a licensed version is released, any and all trading must stop. Importance is placed on the idea that the interested parties in the trade know what they are dealing with.
callistofreak, you've done a great job of describing what you are selling. I would remove the "public domain" and state that no licensed version is available.

I'd amend the SMDM auction as well -
the recent region 2 DVD release shows that Universal still maintains a copyright on the shows.

Oh yeah, neither show is public domain because "the copyright was never applied or has expired" as stated in the listing. Not even close. :smiley1: People selling unauthorized stuff often try to use that excuse or something like the Berne Act to try and cover themselves, but it's rarely an actual legally accepted excuse, but it doesn't hurt to try and cover yourself. ;)
Good luck on your sales, but be careful, I'm sure the companies that claim ownership to the respective shows are registered with VeRO on ebay, so if they become aware of your listings, they might hit you hard, as VeRO members are especially protective of their product. You also might want to check out this for ebay's specific rules on public domain listings. SMDM was created after 1972, so your listing of that one is especially vulnerable:

Not trying to offend...but the Batman set has got to be compressed. I bought the 30 disc set a while back...and those look amazing. Even at dual layer DVD copies...the least the Batman set should be is 15 discs to keep a decent picture quality. Good Luck.

I would think ebay will yank that. Batman's a heavily contested show, that said i bought a set at a Wizard convention a few years ago, by Saturday afternoon the guys booth was closed down. I'd be careful selling those on a site like ebay

i bought a set from ioffer and they kinda stunk! they were definitely worse than tv broadcast.
I bought the 3 Seasons of Batman off of eBay 4 or 5 years back. They pop up all the time.
The picture quality was about the same level as the set Starsky has...:ugh_y:
I really would like to buy an official version. There's enough demand for the set that all involved would be fairly compensated.
I've got The Monkees Series on DVD.... Why not Batman?

if Ebay catches it they'll pull it they are very tight about people selling any material that might be copyrighted as a dvd-r. Sell.com has many sellers with both shows along with just about every cartoon you can think of

Yeah I bought a similar set (7 discs) for $30.00 at a convention and was disappointed. You really need a picture that has good resolution to charge any real money and that's a hard find. With modern day DVR's as well as digital and HD channels, it will become harder to sell old recordings from an analog signal. Those versions are about obsolete.

I upgraded to the 10 disc set from the 7. It's much better, but not on par with the 30 disc set by a long shot. For me, a good picture is fine to watch an episode here or there with the kids. I don't need to see Adam West's gut in HD.

The 30 disc set I got look like they were made from 16MM Studio Prints. Nice color and no TV logos. They even had the 60's ABC clip before the show where abc slides across the screen. Great quality. If you're looking to get any set of Batman TV series...the 30 Disc set is the way to go.
I got a 20 disc set and no complaints about quality either
