Lemme guess,
She wants an angel and you want a star or gold spike.
All women want angels on the top of the tree

Just give in and let her have the angel

My ex-hubby and I had different ideas on how Xmas trees should be decorated. So we compromised; one year, it's my way, the next, his way. He like natural looking stuff and less glitz, and an angel, I like glitz and my star that has been w/ me since I was 2. It worked out well. (until we divorced that is). :smiley1:

Awwww, :hugs: that's too bad Hector. If I weren't gonna be in NYC, I'd hang out w/ ya. :yeah: But in keeping w/ my family tradition, (sorta), Shawn (The Falcon) has agreed to decorating his tree on Christmas Eve w/ me. This will be the first Christmas w/o my mom, so it helps to keep a little tradition.

yeah that must be it :)

no i know... you forgot to get the middle and bottom section down from the loft.. poor thing

no i got it now... thats one of them grand walk in fireplaces right, yeah thats a grand walk in fire like 8-10 foot high... you live in a mansion

or...
your actually only 8" tall like a real mego and the tree looks huge to you

I remember when I bought my first Xmas tree, for my new place, I was kinda judging the size in my mind that would fit in my front room next to the sofa, got home, opened it up, put it this way, I had to sit on one end of the sofa for 3 weeks, to watch tv, I kinda over did it.:smiley1:

:smiley1: For once I can actually say I am taller than something! I think the tree is munchkin sized. If you lay down on the floor and look up, it's REALLY tall. Forgot to say that the star on my tree is one of those stuffed McDonald's happy meals stars from a few years ago. I think it's one of those Pokemon stars.

Hey George, you don't like elves, much do ya?

That gold one to the right is made just like my Christmas toy soldiers my mom got from FTD when I was 7. The fringes fell off within the first 5 years. I still have them. The bases fell off and the wires are exposed on the bottom. The green one's hat has lost its brim, but I still love them and still hang them.

Yes, I have a real soft spot for vintage pixie/kneehugger ornaments. I picked up the tree, lights, and star last year after Christmas for 75% off specifically so I could do a pixie tree this year. There's still three or four that wouldn't fit, so they'll end up on the big tree this week.
The gold pixie you mentioned is a tree topper. The tinsel has seen better days, so I decided to just stand it beside the tree instead. If you look carefully at the tree, you can spot a couple of 60's toys near the top.

Wow! I had totally forgotten about those stuffed Santa's with the pull cord. I had one of those in the late 60's, early 70's. Hey George do you know the name of the manufacturer that made that? I would love to find one on Ebay! That sure brings back some memories when I was a little kid.

Yep, he's a Mattel Patter Pillow from 1968. Here's a pic from the eBay auction I got him from:

He still kinda/sorta works, but I'll probably send him off eventually to get him working fulltime again. I think I paid around $45.00 for mine, so you should be able to get one fairly easily.

Wow what a fun thread. I feel like I'm visiting each other's houses. If I can find a really cheap tree that's taller than me after Christmas is over, I may splurge. It's just that the husband is not really big into decorations. I decorate for the kids...otherwise we probably wouldn't have a tree up. It wasn't until Dylan was about 5 that we started decorating for Christmas....so that's about 5 years with no Christmas decorations! Besides, Apemania just gave me an idea of churning ornaments like Santas and angels into apes...and I will need more space to hang up all of my Christmas apes.

I haven't gotten mine yet. We always go on the weekend closes to my birthday (Dec. 12th) and cut a real cedar tree. It's been a family tradition for years. Me, my son, my dad, my brother-in-law and my nephew go out and get one for each of our houses.

No offense to anyone here, but I always joke that I will never have an artificial tree. My wife needles me about it every year just to get me riled up, and I tell her if she gets a fake tree, just go ahead and ram it through my heart, because I'd rather be dead.:)

I'll post pics after we decorate this weekend!

Real Christmas trees smell so wonderful! But I hate the thought of killing a tree.

Funny you should mention that Jess, I was just reading info on exactly that.

Reasons to buy a real tree

1. Most real trees come from somewhere local, so you are helping your own community's economy.

2. Tree's are grown for cutting ... If that didn't happen, there would probably be a Walmart or stripmall on that land right now.

3. There is no waste ... The community recycles the old tree's into mulch for beautifying state highways and public buildings ... saving people money on extra taxes for this purpose.

Dec 9, '09, 8:28 PM
We cut a tree off of someone's farm land. Around here, you can't spit without hitting a cedar tree in the country, so they are plentiful. I'm all for reforesting, etc, but 3 trees a year ain't gonna kill nobody.

And the needles aren't bad. That's most peoples complaint. Walking in and smelling the cedar smell every evening is well worth it. To me, that's the smell of Christmas.
