does anybody remember what issue the "Robins New Look" spread was in? I know I have that issue, but I cant remember exactly which one it was....and I'm getting bogged down rereading old stories when I start flipping through the pages to look for it. which isnt a bad thing:smile:

Ah, yes... the introduction of Robin The Boy Wonder's "new look". A dark day in comics, that was.

I wonder if they realized then how they were destroying the merchandising angle of the character? Robin (wearing the classic costume) used to be plastered over everything just as were Batman & Superman. Now not so much (but you are seeing more Green Lantern & Flash).

I'm a big a Robin fan as they come, but I will admit, it was time to retire the classic Robin costume. The Neal Adams designed Tim costume was a perfect updating of the classic suit. I wish they hadn't abandoned it a few years back, although I don't mind the all red/black version either.
Captain is talking about the fan submissions for a new Robin suit. Some of them are very...interesting.

It was a nice suit. You have to admit with all the gay jokes about Robin. The writers were trying to "tough him up" and that is what they came up with.
When they did the first Batman animation, Dick Grayson for some reason got the Tim Drake outfit. They seemed to skip the elf boots, little green boy underware classic look. :smiley1:
I thought the new red and black outfit was the best one. I made my current Robin custom from this look.

Hello everybody!
Personally I really like both the Classic and the Tim Drake Robin costumes. As for the all red, it just seems like something is missing (the green duh) but seriously it's like the costume is lacking flow. Funny thought... it actually looks like a bad knock off toy with a really poor paint scheme. There I said it.

These are from Batman #259, but there is an issue of Batman Family later on in the decade, and in that one Robin actually wears three fan-submitted costumes. One is fairly similar to the top one posted here.

I have that issue of BF. There's a green/blue outfit which I don't like at all. A red and yellow which has a jet pack and a brown and gold one that looks more bird-like.
I love the red and black Tim outfit to be honest. Much more than the Adams designed one. Funny, when the Adams outfit was being discussed, I designed 3 outfits. one of which was very similar to the red/black. I wish I had a scanner to post it but unfortunately, it died a while back.

I love the one where cape looks like it's attached to his arms and legs, that would never be a problem...he'd be more like a flying squirrel boy?

Neal Adams also designed a new Robin outfit shortly after these were published, which Earth 2 Robin first loaned to Earth 1 Robin in an issue of Justice League, and then started wearing himself. Funny thing about Adams suit is it looks a heck of a lot like the bottom right hand one on the second page Tbolt put up. In its first appearance in said JL story, it also had "wings" like the picture to the left of the one I mentioned. Weird!
The reason I wanted to look this issue up was a friend of mine was trying to convince me that the Lilli Ledy Robin suit was inspired by one of these drawings. It does look a lot like the one on the top right hand side of the first page. Still, I doubt Ledy intentionally copied it? What does everybody else think?
