Does anyone have any photos the hal needham stuntman figure and the western playset? What all did they release with that line?
Thanks
Dave

I have the set boxed, missing only one porch post and Hal's hat, I think. As far as I know, there were no other pieces released.

One of My Grails one of the best Toys I ever had...I couldn't stop playing with it once I got it.

It's awesome that the brains behind Smokey and the Bandit has been immortalized in plastic.

I managed to get the playset nrfb sealed. I must say that I have not ever come across this set before and have never seen the figure ever. How rare is this set and the figure? Will I be waiting forever for a figure to show up on Ebay?
Also, how tall is the figure?
I am tempted to open and play with this bad boy!

I've only seen the set on eBay a couple of times. I think the figure is probably not that rare, but could easily be mistaken for a 7.5" Marx figure.
I got an extra vest for him in a parts lot many years ago, so let me know if you find a figure and need the vest.

I appreciate the off Abmac. Looking under MArx does make sense. I would love to see a carded example.
So technically the western Mego figures would fit in well with this set then?

Thanks, Vinny. The plastic and laminated cardboard playset is very reminiscent of Mego's Forbidden Zone Trap. I love it.

After seeing those photos, I see now that I just might have to open it and put it together.
Do you think I could get away with using 9" Gabriel figures? I would love to set this up next to my Gabriel Carson city.

Notice how much clearance is above Kit Carson's head. There isn't enough vertical space there for 9" figures to stand up straight.

I have that AHI bad guy that your using for the bartender.I think his head would be perfect for Tony Stark

Who did make this?
The basic body design is obviously borrowed from Marx, but the sculpting lacks the fine details that Marx enjoyed. Its close though...damn close.

Gabriel. It's mentioned on one of the catalogue pages above, but not very prominently.

:terror: WOW! Now that's very cool Ant! That set is perfect for the WGWH! Very nice!
Oh and Hal's looks very much like the old Marx Johnny West figure, the arm/leg joints are spot on for a Marx figure IMO.

Ant, that's was very cool how you setup the Mego's in the stuntman set! Great pics, too!
The Needham stuntman set looks like it would have been many hours of fun.

Thanks, guys!
I've had hours of fun playing with the set since I got it. I know I would've loved it as a kid.
I thought Hal's hands were identical to the ones on Marx's Buck Hunter, but in a side-by-side comparison I see differences. I'd still bet Marx had a part in the production of this figure somehow.
It doesn't make sense that such a detailed playset only comes with one real figure and a bunch of cheesy cutout characters. I don't think it's a coincidence that it's perfect for Mego figures. I think it was planned that way.

Ya know, come to think of it, I have Eric(the Viking) and Geronimo's Marx figures and they have the exact hands (trigger hand for the right basic grasp for the left the colors are different though as to be expected.) I have had those from when my sister was little and handed them down to me they always were Mego villians the helped the Hulk beat up everyone else!
All kidding aside, the joints and hands on that fellow are spot-on for a Marx figure Ant, I totally agree that someone from the Marx family had something to do with him, for the sake of it how tall is he? Cause all Marx peices for the most part were 12"(again as far as I know if, I'm wrong please correct me, I need the knowledge) If he is smaller that would be kinda wild!
I also agree that the set was made for Megos it just looks to perfect. I learned at Megomeet about the AHI vans (CHiPs, The Joker, Batman, Hulk etc.) and how they were made to accomodate Megos so you never know. Damn, still looking for a Hulk van too come to think of it. *sighs*

Hal is 7.5" tall.
Marx made a few 8" lines, including Safari Adventure, Rat Patrol, Johnny and Jane Apollo, and a western line. Buck Hunter is one of three figures in the Safari Adventure line.

Holy shrunken Marx figures Batman! I didn't know about them! I'm gunna have to look them up! I loved Marx stuff, I have a red Hulk PVC from the 60's (it has to be at least early 70's it has no year on it) plus Geronimo and Eric. I thought they really did make some quality stuff for their time. Marx actually was ahead of their time. Thanks again Ant, see? I needed schooled after all.
I've been jealous of you since you won that auction. That is definitely the "playset" to repro for the Western Heroes line, especially given the lack of detailed pictures of the Dodge City playset.

Well i got it and the first thing I noticed was minty fresh the box was. It was like it was taken right off the shelf.
I put it together and am suprised as to how big it is. Its quite the playset! I also have the gabriel Dodge city and think I might set up both sets together for some photos. I tried to snag up a marx ready gang playset but lost the auction which would have made an even bigger diorama that would have been 8+ ' overall.
I will post some photos when I get a chance. I dont have a single cowboy to display in it. I might have to pick me up some ctvt western figures now.
