Spinning out of Shazam Monster Society of Evil. Published under the Johnny DC Banner that traditionally has the animated DC books and WB cartoon tie in stuff.

Gonna take a while to get used to that art but I need more kid friendly books to read to my kids.

They also announced a series based on the DC Super Friends pre-K toyline, and "The Tiny Titans". Little pre-Teen Titans. Weird, but welcome!

Not a big fan of the art either...but glad to have CAPTAIN MARVEL back instead of the long white-haired loser currently in the Trials mini.

I'm not familiar with Mike Kunkel or Hero Bear. Is the image a good example of his work or some sketches thrown together for the announcement?

I hope it doesn't take too much of a cue from Monster Society, little kids will be asleep by the end of the first issue.

Don't like the art either. It reminds me of that cartoon series Nick had on awhile back,The Xs.

Ya know it sucks that DC still has to resort to a title like "Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam" when a simple "Captain Marvel" would do quite nicely....sigh...stupid trademarks.

I'll pick it up to see if it is any good ... the sketchy art doesn't bother me, at least it's different!!!

I was bumping around google and found a couple examples of Mike Kunkel's work.

Very impressive. Much cleaner then the very sketchy example we were given.

i thought HeroBear was a cute book, i think he's a great choice for a Shazam! book. i'll def be getting this...

...and i'll be getting it for my nephew, who i turned onto Shazam! via theJeff Smith series.

The art as shown in the new Shazam series is disappointing. My favorite Shazam artist is Rich Buckler who drew the appearances of cap in DC Comics Presents in the 80's and the Superman v. Shazam Treasury. Now that was great art- Neal Adams inspired.

I'll at least give the book a flip-through. DC seems to be wanting to revitalize Captain Marvel, and I've thought for a long time that he'd be a perfect fit for younger readers. Keep the book lighthearted and fun, and they may be surprised by the response - especially if they could get it into toy aisles and bookstores. You know, places kids actually are anyway, without having to go into a specialty store.
