Was just reading on wikipedia that Dr Who the new series season-5 is going to be called series-1.

What's that all about ?

Is the new Doctor going to be a young William Hartnell ? ... and if so, does that mean the series is over ? ... meaning the series as we know it.

The TARDIS new/old look is making me think he quite possibly be William Hartnell.

Any info on what's to come ?

If it is true, half of me is excited ... but the other half of me has some reservations....

1. I hope they don't show us too much of the Doctor's background ... If so it would spoil the whole mythos that is Doctor Who.

2. If he is a young first Doctor, it almost makes me feel like the series has been cancelled and this new show is more of a prequel --- which I always regard prequels as sub standard spin-offs.

Well, maybe the Tardis interior will once again get its classic look.
One thing I really disliked about the new series is the interior Tardis: what a mess!!!

But if it is a prequel, I'll hate it.
It takes away all the excitement, because you know what is to come. No surprises with a prequel...

Good point and since the Doctor met so many of the great villians (the DALEKS, Cybermen, Ice Warriors, the Nestene) for the 1st time in the classic series it has a chance to end up like entrerprise. It would open up prequel stories on the Mad Monk, the Terrible Zodin, The master, the sontarans, even the Rani

could be interesting, but I don't think it would be very long lived.

You would have to stick with this actor as there would be no regeneration without messing with the canon of the series. And if he proved to be unpopular, the series would have nowhere to go. Unless the BBC worked with different actors for different stages of the 1st Doctors life. Young man, middle age, pre-Hartnell elder. It still seems more like a one-off mini series than a continuing idea.

I've been dreading this thought and didn't even wanna mention it for fear of poxing the series but I truly hope they don't take a lesson from Star Trek (the new movie) and START OVER and rewrite the entire classic series starting with the first Doctor as a younger man.

If this happens, season-5 and everything after is dead to me.

I wouldn't take anything on Wikipedia too seriously, it's notoriously unreliable with its " facts ".

Matt Smith is officially the 11th Doctor, until the BBC states otherwise i'll reserve judgement.

I have the same fear I only hope a reboot is not in order

I really hope they don't try and go all "Enterprise" with the Doctor, it limits you. You can't run into the Daleks or Ice Warriors because that never happened.

I know the new series has taken a couple of liberties with the show's history but for the most part it's ignorable, a reboot might alienate a lot of fans.

I always liked Tom Baker's wood panel basement TARDIS look.

This is probably a dumb question but, is it absolutely canon that Hartnell was the first Doctor?

My fav console was McCoy/McGann's

My least fav console was the later Davison/Colin/McCoy's ... which reminded me of a Puz-3-D

In the Five Doctors, the "Hartnell Doctor" stated i'm the ORIGINAL.

It doesn't get more clearer then that :)

Wonderful point on the Tardis Ed, the Baker "Jules Verne" Tardis is my absolute favourite.

I didn't mind that they made the main room bigger (it IS a Tardis, after all), but I hated the design and the clutter. If you're going to change the lead actor and his companions, at least keep one thing the same, like the Tardis (inside and out).
Here's hoping they return to the classic design!

The one thing I didn't like about Baker's secondary control room was the console itself.

To me, it's too small and I hate the fact it rests on dolly wheels.

Looks more like a glorified microwave oven cart :)

I hope they go back to the classic look of the Tardis also.

I prefered the Pertwee/Baker Tardis the best.

So where do you live?:rotfl:

i'll give it a chance, i love lead writer stephen moffets style. however i think they're saying they are calling it season 1 again is because of the total change over in behind the scenes crew. yeah i know that didn't matter 33 years ago, but people are crazy ( as a recent country music song says)

Was just reading some fan speculation and one of the possible answers was pretty good.

They said perhaps the Master not only kills Tennant but the TARDIS as well ...

But instead of the TARDIS dying, it saves itself by reverting back to an early time -- as you would do to your home computer if it had a nasty problem you couldn't fix.

I could definitely live with that scenario.
