I've been looking to start collecting GI-JOE ADVENTURE TEAM and i started checking E-BAY to get an idea price wise and conditions, During my checking i've noticed that every Bulletman i see his arms are detached as is his head.
So what gives? i know Bulletman was one of the last in the line but i don't see the same problem with MIKE POWER who came out roughtly the same time

All the GI Joes made with muscle bodies like Bulletmen suffer the same fate. The rubber they used to make the joints regrades with time. They're easy to re-string though. Costwold collectibles sells an easy kit for $15.

Mike Power was made like the older Joes rather than the muscle body guys that broke apart.

And they still go for big bucks as a pile of parts, too!
I've been trying for one for awhile.
Hey, all you other guys, he's a piece of crap. Stop bidding on him. :smiley1:

Same thing happens with Super Joe auctions too, even ones that are in pieces (i.e. most of them) usually sell for a decent amount of money.

Hasbro did such a bad job that many of these figures broke just sitting MIP on the shelves in the 1970s.

Yeah, I've tried on a few of those, too. You'd think they were made of gold.

Maybe not gold, but that vacplated chrome sure is shiney.

The sad thing is that some people probably buy them thinking they are an easy fix but they are not. Certainly impossible to do without the know how, and I don't even know anyone that currently fixes these 8" ones (unlike the 12" muscle body Joes)

I know how to fix the 12" guys. I've never seen an 8" one but to be honest I've had the same attitude you just mentioned, "I can fix it" but haven't ever got my hands on one to even try so....who knows?

How hard is it to fix Bulletman? I'm seriously thinking of skipping Bulletman and just getting the reg JOES adventure team and a MIKE POWER

It's very easy to restring muscle body Joes. You can either buy the kit from Cotswold (http://www.gijoeelite.com - they are on back order right now) or you can do the cheapo method of stringing elastic cord (from fabric store) around elbow rivet, through upper arms, out neck hole through neck post and tied off atop neck post.

I'm not sure if the Super Joes have the same fix method as the 12" muscle bodies, I've never done either. I have a restored Super Joe Commander, and it looks like his original rotted joints (elbows, knees, etc) were replaced with new nylon ones, and parts of the figure had to be sliced open at the seams in order to put the new connecting parts in, and then reglued shut. And he has Mego hands replacing the originals, as I don't think anyone makes repro Super Joe hands. So between finding the replacement parts, and literally slicing open the figure at the seams, it doesn't even sound like anything I would want to even attempt. :smiley1:
you have to split the AT bodies and arms to fix them as well. Not so bad with the regular joes, so to speak, but the chrome on Bman chips and scratches pretty easily. You have to have a very steady hand.

Bullet Man is a 12" muscle body and I don't think it's too tough to fix those. The torso and legs don't seem to have any trouble, it's just the arms and head. From what I can tell, a lot of people are putting those back together all the time. I'm not really much of a fan of the muscle body joes, but I sure would like to pick up some more of the vintage hard hand guys!

Actually my comment was directed towards the Super Joe parts auctions, not Bullet Man ones. :) Super Joes have problems with the hips and knees too, so those auctions are just literally a heap of parts, and no hands.

Now that I wasn't aware of. I knew the hands disintegrated but I didn't know there were other crappy parts that dissolved as well. Maybe I'll just stay away from those altogether until someone comes up with a repair kit or repro parts for them. Obviously vintage parts are out of the question. I still would like to see the remains of one in a pic I could zoom in on and compare to a good one (if that even exists?)

I had an Eagle Eye. He was neat.
That Bulletman that just sold on ebay today went for almost $90!!
He looked nice though. Original emblem and belt and looked clean.
Was going to throw a bid in till he went over $50.
I also passed on a complete Atomic Man the other day. I think he went for over $30 and he's so common. They made over a million of him the first year alone.

Hi...in my forum I've described the full restore with an elastic.
It's a cheap way to solve the problem and it isn't a difficult way to obtain a great result. Everyone can do it.
The Costwold's kit for muscle body it's the better way, no cheap, they replace the disintegrated joints with other in plastic material, very strong.
The problem is about to apply this kit, it's not easy and the arms and body must be completely opened. Not so easy without brake something.
Here my guide to solve with elastic:

Mine too. I'd hold out for a complete nice one. I just don't want him that bad right now that I'm willing to pay too much but I'll get one eventually. Might even end up find a bargain.

My thoughts exactly! I was cringing at bidding $50-ish. I'd love to have one but gee whiz!

My wife used my daughter's hair ties in all the joints and he's better and more poseable than he ever was in his original form. And it's freaking strong and tight too. When she got done, my mouth was agap in shock. I will never doubt her suggestions ever again.

Wonder if you can place the BULLETMAN head on a reg joe body, Might be cheaper to make a hi-bred yeah i know it won't be the real mccoy but he'll look good on the shelf

I've restrung about a dozen muscle body Joes and 6 Super Joe figures. It's possible with a careful, steady hand and some patience. I've done them all with elastic from the sewing shop my wife frequents.
And, yes, BulletMan's head will fit on an old style Joe body but totally unnecesary. Please go to ClubHair for Joe and talk to Craig. HIs repair kit is fantastic and I believe he sends instructions. I know they're on the net somewhere. I'll see if I can find them. It really isn't difficult.

My Mike lasted all of a day and I adored that figure! It took me forever but I finally got one about 15 years ago. I have a spare sitting beside me. ;)

It isn't just the head to change over. It is the chrome arms and hands. You would still need to attach those somehow and that is the main problem with the AT bodies.

spockfan74, it's not $90 for a figure you need to rebuild, it's $90 for a figure you get to rebuild! Part of that $90 cost is for the fun of trying to figure out how to keep the damn thing together! :googly:

He can't keep it together because of the poor quality rubber that was used to keep him together. Prior versions used rope or bunji.

Yeah, I'd love to find one to rebuild in 1/6 but plan on doing a 1/9 scale version since I like it better too.

Sorry to hijack this thread but does anyone know of a company doing replacement Kung Fu grip hands? Been looking for a set for a Mike Power figure I am close to finishing.

How about the hands from the figures that came out about two years ago? Those are perfect and made by Hasbro...

Muscle Body rebuilds are easy. I've done 3 of them -- two of those 3 were Bulletman figures. Nothing that a sharp Exacto knife, some glue, and a rebuild kit won't fix.
Cotswold KFG hands can be heated up in hot water, taken off their pegs and put on the Hasbro pegs very easily.

costwold sells them, I believe they are listed as action hands.
I had both the eagle eye Joe and Mike Powers as a kid. Sold off eagle eye years ago (ina apile of pieces). of course, now I too am considering purchasing and restoring one. I want to get another MP as well but neither is high on my list right now.
so many tooys, so little money.....sigh
