Hello everyone,
I have broken a few Mego since I started collecting, nothing major though. I broke the knee pin's of my Fonzie mego after about 10 seconds of owning one, as soon as I opened the parcel and took him out I heard some bit's of plastic fall on the floor and I checked to see it was his knee pin's. Aside from that the only other real damage I did was my Potsie mego (Happy days must be accident prone) fell in my fish tank by accident.
I havent broken any thing too valuable yet, but my question is has any one caused some serious damage to their collection? Such as accidently sitting on a carded figure? Or accidently ripped the cello from a boxed Mego? Or worse yet broken the mask of a RM robin?

Well, I was a kid when this happened and even though it was 30+ years ago, I still remember the incident. I tied a string around the chest and under the arms of my removable cowl Batman. When it was secured, I began swinging him around as if he were flying. Had a blast swinging him and spinning myself around and then, "WHACK!"...Batman hit the swing set and the elastic snapped. He feel to pieces. Didn't know he could be repaired and he found his way into the trash and I moved on to the T2 Batman. Wish I would have known to at least keep the parts.

I won't even ask how something like that happens. :smiley1:

A few months back I laid out my loose Megos for a friend we went would and we wound up going "old school" with them.
Thank god the Supergirl I had the time was repro was her arm got cracked and her hand broke. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it provided boith reason to geta real Supergirl and I wound up using on of her feet on a broken Invisible Girl I purchashed. Got a great deal on I-Girl and she's all original save that foot. Even reusued the orginal Mego pin.
As far as childhood, no one incident stands out. There were plenty of horrible moments when I knew someone's knee pin gave way or their leg broke. As far as abuse, my Trek figures took most of it. I'd pile them into this blue Jeep, and proceed to run the Jeep into a tree, "Captain, we're gonna crash!".
I've been fortunate enough to never have anything break. The worst thing happening so far is having to box 'em all up and not having them on display anymore

From childhood:
My little brother threw my Lizard out the window of the car. Busy traffic and Mom wouldn't go back
Day one after the good fortune of buying 10 comic action heroes for $5 and my Aquaman's leg breaks off the first time I moved it.

speaking of CAH I should add that recently while moving my CAH Hulk I snapped his right arm off. I was very suprised at how weak the joint was and mostly, very angry for touching it in the first place!

After Robin's leg broke in 1979 it was glued back in place. The problem was that glue got in the knee joint and the Boy wonder way stuck in a running position for many months. Nothing strikes fear into the hearts of villain than to see the boy wonder with his foot hanging out over the front of the batmobile since that was the only way he could fit. :smiley1: A pair of pliers fixed the problem, followed by another glue treatment, this time without frozen knee syndrome.

The leg of a Palitoy Torch I got recently broke in the package, my heart sank and it's still trying to find it's way back up. One of the cons of collecting packaged figures unfortunately.
I also had a 77 Riddler turn up with a broken leg a few months back. I think somebody's trying to test me ;).

When I first started collecting as an adult, and I had about 7 Megos, my cousin Jason became interested in Megos. He really wanted to play with them so I got them out. He was about 10 years old I think. Anyways, as we were playing, I heard this 'snap'. I looked at Jason and he was holding my Luke Duke, who was now missing half a leg. The leg had broken at the knee. Jason felt bad, I was a little bummed, but in the end, it was no big deal. I just repaired the leg at a later date. That's the worst thing that happened to my Megos.

I was little when I started collecting Megos so alot happens ya know?
I took clothes off of them and never put them back on and forgot about it and my wonderful sister threw out most of the clothing and peices. God, I could strangle her now! She walked into my room a few days ago and was in shock, she even said, "Didn't I throw them away?" I just smiled and said, "Yeah, they came back from the dead to torment you, and they're coming after your Peter Criss doll for vengance of the fallen comrades you banished to trash land!" :smiley1:
She really didn't have much to say. But my neice did say she didn't see Peter Criss where she had placed it for years so yeah you know she's scared of the evil mego curse.

I bought a nice French carded The Thing figure back in the early 90s, I had it displayed on a hanging peg on my wall for years. One day a few years back, I walked in the room and found that the bubble had actually separated from the card somewhat, enough for the figure to be removed. I didn't pay alot for it but it was still a bummer to find it no longer MOC. Then more recently, I found a great deal on a loose Thing on Ebay. Got it in the mail, took it out and it was in great shape. I went to display it, and was bending the arms and legs to pose it how I wanted, and the left arm peg broke. I have bad luck with The Thing I guess!!
The only other incident involving my Megos was having to sell off a bunch of MOC figures about seven years ago due to divorce :ugh: That definitely ranks as the worst thing to happen to my Mego collection.

Worst thing that happened to one of my Megos...Lost my Diamond Logo Spidey in my house...FOR 2 YEARS!!! and then I found it. Man, I went crazy (Heath/Highquality can tell you the story). I found it under a pile of clothes in a dresser drawer in my basement (I have finished basement). I thought for sure that one of 2 things happened to it:
1) I shipped it out to one lucky member on the museum by accident with other figures they had purchased from me.
2) I threw it out in a shipping box by accident.
Thank God neither of those happened.
The only other incident involving my Megos was having to sell off a bunch of MOC figures about seven years ago due to divorce :ugh: That definitely ranks as the worst thing to happen to my Mego collection.
But think about all the other crap you got rid of at the same time.

"What's the worst thing that ever happened to your Mego? " .........
Changing clothing to upgrade a figure and my darn fingernail gets hung-up on the perfect suit--- producing a "fuzzy" or "fuzzball".
Happens way too often...

About 9 years ago, I took some of my AJs to the school I was working at, and this girl named Maxine tried to make one of them do gymnastics and stretching exercises and the band broke and he fell to pieces!:enraged: I had to learn (before I had the internet) how to fix him. Needless to say, I didn't take them back to that school.

I've had a few mishaps since collecting Megos.
The most heart-wrenching was when I got my minty Iron Man in the mail, opened it up, and decided to take off his glove. The seam on the glove made this sickening "pop" sound. I had owned him for maybe 2 seconds.
I was foolish enough to put my repro bow into my Mego Speedy's hand, and had it there for several years. One day I discovered the bow on the floor of my case...along with Speedy's thumb!!! Luckily, the saintly Kresge sent me a new Lion Rock body and all was right with the world again!

A couple years ago we were having a garage sale. I thought, for the fun of it I'd put out some extra figures (and a few other items) I'd yet to sell on ebay. I put them way behind my table line in the obvious, don't come back here area that you have to try really hard to get to. It was fun seeing one guy that knew what they were thinking he'd just scored big, until he saw my sign that asked for prices on vintage toys.
Everything was fine until an Asian man and his son showed up. His English wasn't very strong so communicating was a chore. his son pointed at Spider-man. I explained that it was a vintage toy and a collectable, and he understood none of it. I then used the words old and expensive and as I did his kid goes under the table and grabs Spidey and starts twisting him and moving him around. I was on the other side of the table so I had to work to get back there. The man followed me and asks how much. I tried to explain again that it was expensive and told him twenty five. He reached in his pocket for a quarter... the whole time his kid was abusing a pretty nice Spidey dispite a slight run in his costume. With every second I was imagining that run getting bigger and bigger... I said "no not 25 cents, but 25 dollars. 25 dollars, very old, vintage, hard to find, not for kids." I was probably getting louder and louder at this point in hopes that he'd understand. He understodd at last that 25 dollars meant he didn't want his son playing with it any more.
No real harm done, but I decided it was time for the Megos to go inside.

When I was a kid My T1 Spiderman's elastic broke. My Dad figured out how to restring him.
My Mr Fantastic leg broke. He was one of the few Megos that survived my childhood, and when I got back in the hobby, he was the 1st I repaired with a new knee pin.

A few years ago, three of my Megos - Robin, Hutch, and Wild Bill Hicock - came to life and tried to kill me in my sleep. My cat Milo got involved and that was it for the Megos. He shredded them to pieces. I'll never forget their little screams as, one by one, Milo gnawed their heads off.

My junior year at Ohio State some friend of a friend of a friend... tore apart my Joker and someone stole my Conan -probably the same person.
As a teen I personally destroyed Isis and Wondergirl not seeing any worth in them.

The memory that stays with me clearly is a brand new Micronaught that my mom bought for me, I remember picking it out in the store and asking for it. First thing I did when we got in the car was open the package, after attempting to point the head straight it broke off at the neck. Great quality I have to tell you. My mom got mad about the money wasted and I was equally disgusted. I think that was my last Mego purchase ever. More than likely the same quality control engineers for Mego later joined ranks at CTVT.

HAH! lol, my cat did the same thing (he still tries to)! not long ago I caught him trying to eat my Human Torch's hands.
Any since there has been so much talk about it, I'll just tell everyone how Potsie fell in the fish tank. Under the shelf where my Mego's are stored I have a fish tank (just a small one with one fish in it) any way, my Mego's fell down while I was moving them and Potsie some how managed to land in the tank (which is amazing if you saw how I had it set up the angle would have been really awkward, as if Potsie WANTED to go in).

A friend's daughter came over and started undressing my Megos at a million miles an hour. Whilst I was trying to put stuff back together, my dog ate my RC Batman cowl...since it was on the floor, and was the same colour and texture as her ball. I eventually turned the remnants of that cowl into my Catman figure's cowl. My dog felt much worse than the girl or her mother did.

Well, this didn't really happen to me, but I still remember my kid brother holding his Batman Mego out the car window like Batman was flying. I berated him the entire time because everyone knows Batman doesn't fly. Then he dropped it right in the middle of a busy intersection and cried the rest of the day. Still makes me chuckle.

No harm done......but...
About 9 years ago I happen to be at a small toy show.
Had a couple of MEGOS with me...One was a boxed Riddler...
Well this little kid comes up and starts picking up the box, touching it, etc.
My mother asked him to not to touch it, as it was a very old figure, collectible, etc. His mother comes back and starts yelling at me because my mother told her son not to touch it....The woman obviously didn't know what a MEGO is....LOL! And don't mess with my mother and her son's MEGOS.....LOL! Unfortunately, she is no longer with us, but I love that story of how my mother protected my RIDDLER!...LOL!

my Potsie mego (Happy days must be accident prone) fell in my fish tank by accident.
I suspect the poor guy was attempting to drown himself after realizing who he was. ("Oh GAWD! I'm POTSIE?!? I don't wanna live anymore!" SPLASH!!)
For me, the only Mego disaster I had was after purchasing three loose minty Buck Rogers figures at a collector shop. They were all in a small box with some guns, so, (not knowing any better) I put one of the guns in Kiler Kane's hand and SNAP!-off comes his thumb. I save the thumb, get the superglue out only to superglue the thumb to my thumb, then in the process of getting the thumb unglued, it fell in the carpet and vanished forever. Next I get Buck and Wilma to go with the set, and instantly Buck's rubberband disintegrates into dust... But on a brighter note, they're easy to fix with those small clear rubber bands used to style hair!

my question is has any one caused some serious damage to their collection? Such as accidently sitting on a carded figure? Or accidently ripped the cello from a boxed Mego? Or worse yet broken the mask of a RM robin?
The worst thing that ever happened to my MEGOs was my older brothers.
