    Removing gloss varnish from belt.

I got an Iron Man through a trade and it is a nice piece to be sure.

The belt, I thought, was a cast repro (which was fine) because of it's glossy and slightly less detailed look.

But then I looked at the back and it was a matte finish with injection mold points.

Turns out that sometime in the line of Iron Man's ownership, someone thought his belt would look better if it was shiny.

So, it was painted with a thick gloss varnish. Some of it is flaking a bit at the belt claps point.

I am wondering if I can take something like acetone and clean off the varnish without harming the plastic.

If it's impossible, I'm fine with the way it is now, but would prefer to restore it back to it's original look if possible.

Acetone won't harm the belt, but you may find that the varnish was covering up scratches.
