Hello everyone,

Im still fairly new to this whole customizing thing so I still need to learn a few things. My problem is I am trying to paint the arms of a T1 body but after the paint dries it chip's off easily and doesnt seem to stick to the plastic properly. What exactly am I doing wrong? I am using water-based paint could that be the problem? Or are you just not meant to put paint on Mego bodies at all.

Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

You might have better luck with a paint made for plastics, like Krylon Fusion, but you'll probably still have chipping around the joints.

You can paint Mego bodies, but the paint will always chip if you handle them. Paint them and put them on display and they'll be OK

Yeah they are made out of non stick plastic like glue bottles.
There is a method I use but in order for it to work you have to take the figure apart.
I mix 5 or 25 minute epoxy in a metal saucer with a tad bit of acetone to thin it.
With a cheap brush I coat the whole body with the thinned epoxy.
The epoxy levels out to a smooth glass like finish.
Once the epoxy sets it has a paintable plastic shell .
Be sure to wear safety gear if you try this it's nasty.

yes! that's exactly what I was thinking of doing but I didn't want to do it and make the custom look like he is all greased up for a bikini party. If the epoxy idea doesn't work I'll try Abmac's idea of just getting a made for plasitc paint.

thanks for the help guys.

Abmac's idea would be my first choice.
If it doesn't work you can still do the epoxy. The Krylon fusinon paints just come in limited colors last I checked.
Getting the epoxy off will be a challenge if you don't like the outcome.
There is another kind of epoxy I use but it takes longer to dry called "Envirotex lite" from Michaels or Hobby Lobby. It's also somewhat flexible.
It's a clear pour on resin and they sell tints for it too.
good luck,
Justin

Ah, but you can use regular paints on top of the Fusion paints.

^^^^ That's right. The Krylon Fusion acts as a primer if you do not like the color.
