    3D printer

I may soon have access to a 3D printer!

I'm so excited thinking about the possibilities! It will be like the Star Trek Replicator.

OOOh... opens up all sorts of possibilities for even more "complex" products... and speedy prototyping....

I saw a program about these, and the possibilities seem very exciting.

They are OK for prototyping but not for producing. They are very brittle and break easily from the stuff I've seen. Very cool concept that I'm sure will improve over time, just still in it's infancy at this point.

That place looks amazing! Wish I had one near me...

As far as the 3D printer producing fragile results... are they sturdy enough to use to make a mold?

Molds would come after a negative was made of the original. A3D "print" would be more for seeing what the finished product would look like. I don't know if a 3D piece is detailed enough for a casting.

I saw a piece the printer produced and it was pretty sturdy. Maybe the technology has improved. It did have a tiny honeycomb texture.

Its the same printer has in this Jay Leno video.

At the pace that technology in general is advancing, I am not surprised.

That is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. I still cannot believe it "assembles" the devices (like the crescent wrench and planetary assembly) as it builds them. Just freaking incredible!!

I shudder to think what a device like this can do in the hands of a Mego customizer!!??
