Is there any way to get a refund on a money order? I won an auction and the seller requested a money order. I sent payment via money order but never received item. I'm pretty sure Ebay won't help since paypal wasn't involved. Any suggestions?

I may be wrong but I dont think there is a whole lot you can do. Maybe you can contact the company you bought the MO from and ask. I dont think that ebay can do anything about it. It really sucks that this happened to you.

That's exactly why they don't want us sending MO's.

No ebay wont help. The only thing you can do is get the money order tracked to make sure it has not cashed and the postal service will issue a refund within a month if I remember correctly. Happened to me recently and had to send a paypal to the seller to complete ebays commitment and wait till I got my refund from the post office.

It was for $49.00. Not huge but enough to upset a guy! This is why I do like Paypal as a buyer on Ebay. You are protected better. I know on the selling side Paypal can be a pain, but I think overall it is good. Thanks for the info. It was a postal money order. I 'll see what the post office can do.

if it was cashed by the seller thats mail fraud and a threat with mail fraud usually gets action. if its just ost go to the where you bought it and ask for it to be refunded . mike

Is it mail fraud if it isn't a postal money order? If it came form walmart it may not be, I don't know.

Definition of Mail Fraud.
Mail fraud is an offence under US federal law, which refers to any scheme which attempts to unlawfully obtain money or valuables in which the postal system is used at any point in the commission of a criminal offense.

Unless you had a deal with the seller (in writing) to ship the item with tracking I don't think mail fraud can be proved.
The seller could cash the money order and say they shipped the item and perhaps it got lost in the mail on the way to you.

I Would Tell The Seller You Are Going To Have The Post Office Look Into Mail Fraud If He Already Shipped It He Will Give You Any Information He Has If He Didnt He Might Either Offer A Refund Or Ship The Item To You Quickly .

If the buyer didn't buy tracking (which is the buyers responsibly), mail fraud can't be proved.
Hounding and threatening the seller isn't going to help.
Yes, the buyer can leave the seller a negative, but if the item is lost it's lost and there's no way proving it was fraud.
