I've done Super Friends boxes before but those were basically just using artwork from the "Challenge of..." Era, primarily the style guides. So I wanted something more dynamic, instead of those static poses.

The old Super Friends coloring book was just what I needed! :wink_y::smiley1: The images are definitely more "kid friendly" than regular comic art or Mego art. Everyone is smiling and happy! (Except for Robin....probably because he didn't get much face-time in the aforementioned coloring book)

The design itself is pretty much standard Mego with a couple of variations....like the character logo at the bottom of the window to allow the Super Friends logo to be properly displayed at the top. And I went with Ledy stock numbers since the Ledys heads are what prompted me to do SF figures in the 1st place.

The side cameos were a bit of a dillema....do I keep it 3 and 3 and add a 6th Super Friend? Who? Green Lantern? An obvious Ledy choice but if Mego did these during the 1st run of the Super Friends, GL was nowhere to be seen. Flash, Atom and Green Arrow all appeared before he did. Hmmmmm, how about 3 and 2? The World's Finest team is a no-brainer to appear on one side and Aquaman and Wonder Woman on the other brings back memories of many a secret flight aboard the Invisible Plane together. :smiley1::heart: OK, let's go with that. (And if there IS a Ledy GL head coming along....and I'm sure there will be....I can do a box with GL, Flash, Hawkman (Challenge era) and add Atom, Green Arrow and Plastic Man to round it off. No ethnic-enforced substitute heroes here! :smiley1:

I think what I would have done for the sides is 2 and 2 and alternate them based on whose box is was. If it's Superman use the other 4, if it's Batman use the other 4, etc. You know - whose ever box it is is not on the side. But that's just me.

Really great looking boxes. I'm working on getting some of the heads for the exact same thing. Might just have to ring you up for boxes as well. Lookig forward to seeing the others.

As always great boxes, Anthony.

Exactly how do you find the time to be so incredibly prolific? I think there will soon be an equal number of boxes produced by Mego and produced in the Toyroom.

Anthony, these are really slick!

But you're bashing the ethnic SF again? I particularly like Samurai.

You might just as well poo-poo Sulu, Uhura, & Chekov

Sigh......Sulu, Uhura and Chekov are full-fledged crew members...Samurai, Black Vulcan and Apache Chief are made-up add-ons used to round out the Super Friends membership and make them appear more ethnically diverse. Same with El Dorado.

It's fine if you like them but I have no use for them other than Apache Chief (he's one cool dude :wink_y:). Not being "anti-ethnic heroes" but let's face it, they're Hanna-Barbera creations pure and simple and don't really belong with the pantheon of DC heroes. But if anyone is interested, I'd be more than happy :ugh_y: to do a series of boxes featuring Samurai, Black Vulcan, Apache Chief, El Dorado and Rima. :wink_y: But I highly doubt the demand is there. :smiley1:

It's a matter of opinion of course, but I stand by my ST:TOS comparison. After all, the cartoon is called "SuperFriends", not "Justice League".

As far as full-fledged members, many of the HB characters were treated better than Aquaman. (Darnit!)

I dig Apache Chief, too, & you're probably right about demand.

BTW, I believe Rima is a literary character (from "Green Mansions") in the public domain, not strictly Hanna-Barbera.

As to a third character on the panel with WW & Aquaman, maybe Green Arrow, Flash, or Plastic Man since I think they were featured earliest (in the hour episodes)?

But they are referred to as the "Justice League" quite a bit in the episodes. So I stand by my opinion.

Correct. But I didn't say she was an H-B creation....just that I'd throw her in the mix with the others to round out the assortment.

Yeah but they're not said in the same breath as "Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman....and Aquaman". Guest-stars is what they were in those early episodes.

In this video clip you can clearly see that the walkie talkie device Wonder Woman is holding has the initials JLA on the front ;)

And now the rest of the original Super Friends.....

Went with the more "modern" (at the time) Wonder Woman logo instead of the script...

Is it just me or can you hear Casey Kasem's voice when you look at that Robin pic? :smiley1:

I stand clarified:smile:

Since Flash later became a regular, maybe he's the "best" choice as #6., maybe in a blue box?

It goes without saying that I think the Aquaman box is wonderful; that's an unusual pose that features Arthur's face well.
