Stumbled upon this strange myspace page (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=156171535)the other day and it not only claims a now famous rock band did a Planet of the Apes rock album but that the same band were the ape actors in the Mego Macy's Day Parade float!
Anybody hear about this before?

I knew about the page, but I'm not sure I believe the part about the parade. The recordings are bizarre.

Reminds me of "Spider-man; Rock Reflections of a Superhero"
I think this ape music goes better with Ape Bendies than the 8" figs

Yeah, Brian, I'm definitely aware of the recording. But until know had not heard any of it. Thanks for the link! Awesome stuff! The record was called, I believe "Planet Of The Apes....A Musical Trip" released on TPI. Apparently the brainchild of one Terry Phillips.
BTW, as a huge record geek, these are the exact sort of records I spend my days tracking down and looking for in dusty junk shops.....

Wow, that's interesting Matt. I've never heard of it before but that album cover is so weird looking that it had to be authentic. The interludes are weird and trippy, I really want to hear more of it.

That record has a brief mention in Patrick Lundborg's book "The Acid Archives" as well as on his website lysergia.com....
These sort of recordings are of great interest to weirdo esoteric underground record collectors.....The mid 70's were ripe with these kind of things.....

I really want to hear more of it.
I have two more tracks that used to be posted on that page. If you want them, I'll email them to you.

That would be an interesting circle if this band did, indeed, appear in that pic from the Macy's day parade.
You know, this reminds me of the tons of novelty songs I remember hearing as a kid. Aside from Weird Al, I really don't hear this type of stuff anymore. I remember listening to Dr. Demento on a local FM station in Philly. I even remember some regionalized novelty songs including one about the Philadelphia Flyers' Dave Schultz and the penalty box.
That Macy's Parade Float is becoming even more of a bizarre footnote in the history of POTA. Funky stuff!
