I've toyed around with revamping this place and wonder what is missing here?
Should we have areas solely for Modern and Vintage toys that aren't mego?
Give me your two cents on what is needed here.

A Vintage Toys section to discuss old lines sounds cool. Something a little more permanent than say General Buzz. There might end up being some valuable info there after awhile and it be nice to access it quickly under one heading.
I'm totally against having permanent forums for other toys here. The Mego Museum's official forums should focus on Mego.

I agree with Ant. Lets just talk Megos.

Since 99.9% of people here collect something besides Mego I say a Vintage Toy section would be cool!
I'd shy away from a "Modern" forum cuz mod figs are lame, but vintage would be cool.

I can see that as an argument against a new toys forum but I don't see the harm in chatting about other 70's toys somewhere. Lord knows I dabble.
How about making Swap Meet into a general non-Mego toys forum?

I think we have enough Forums as it is. If we add a forum, I recommend changing or replacing an existing forum to accomodate it.
How 'bout a forum called "That 70's Forum"
It would cover everything Nostalically toy related.

That was Part 2 to my question, what forum can we transform, I'm leaning towards Swap Meet.

Maybe turn "Mego-Like" into "Other Vintage Toy Lines"
We could probably prune The "Packaging" forum too since we do have "Mego Fact"

Yeah, I like to leave Megolike alone but I'm unsure if Packaging isn't redundant or not.

I don't necessarily want to add another forum, but I'd like to see a forum discussion for just the 8" lines or just the 12" lines. This could be part of the rotating forum that we have (Buck Rogers, Dr. Who, etc). It would be nice for there to just be discussion about the Knights line, or the Western Heroes line, or the ever unpopular  WGSH line.

If swap meet is going bye bye, then will it be acceptable for folks to post wnats and want to get rid offs in the marketplace? :oneeye:

I think we should include another toy section forum, some of you might collect only megos, but the majority of us collect other toys, and it would be cool to talk or trade once in a while,Just my opinion but I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me

I can see both sides of the issue here, this is a mego board, but I also collect many other toys, mostly because I have no money. So a general toy (vintage and new) section would be cool I think.
I just remembered something.......
A while ago, wasn't the Museum toying around with creating a "girlie forum" to pull in more ladies ?
Mego celebs, Dinah, and non Mego nostagic toys geared toward girls.
I think I remember that idea being bandied around last year.

I liked the idea of the rotating forum (Dr Who) but has it now outstayed its welcome? How about making it into a TV Talk Forum covering the same sort of stuff...Who, Trek, anything nostalgic, anything that Mego had a licence for......Just open it up more to widen the appeal.

I like the idea of Dr. Who becoming a TV Talk forum.

I kind of like leaving the Doctor Who forum alone.
One thing I noticed, we have A LOT of guests reading it throughout the day.
We have about 10-ish active members and about 10 more- occasional posters.
We even have a member who joined (a few months ago) who ACTUALLY was a semi regular background actor on the original Classic Doctor Who series.
He played in some Tom Baker and Peter Davison stories.
He dont have any interest in toys at all.
He joined just for the DW forum:)
I thought that was pretty neat :)
But, going back to the guest thing......
We do have a lot more guest hits than you'd imagine.
I think we should leave it alone.
It's like 2 years old already.
It's a Museum staple :)
I don't think we need more forums than we already have, but I think changing Swapmeet into a Vintage forum was a good idea. Swapmeet by itself was pretty quiet after all.
I also think the Packaging forum could either be changed into something else or just deleted altogether. Most threads there could either belong in Customs or Mego Fact after all.
Might not be a bad idea to get ridd off one forum if it's just taking up space

I like the idea of Dr. Who becoming a TV Talk forum.
I was thinking Doctor Who and Sci Fi shows. Keeping it somewhat focused, plus I really am not interested in threads about CSI Miami.

Make it the TV Golden Oldies forum
There were other great shows back in the days that weren't sci fi ;)
I like the idea of a Mego Licensed Line Discussion forum. For me, Dr Who or even Sci-Fi is too specialized. I think it would be a fun way to discuss the shows that inspired the toys, and possibly even serve as a way to expand the Museum's information. I'd like discussing the people behind the toys, and wouldn't mind the museum having more information about the actors who portrayed them. Sort of a Wiki type expansion of information beyond what we have now. Even finding good links to other websites about the properties and people could be interesting.
We could have theme weeks where we discuss Starsky and Hutch or CHiPs, and even POTA / TREK / WGSH months, similar to what Brian did when he updated the galleries.
Regular discussions about the shows (like what goes on with Dr Who now) could still be encouraged.
PS - Mike, check your math, the Dr Who forum will be celebrating its 1st year in existence on Friday, May 11th. The Black Hole forum was created on April Fool's Day last year, and morphed into Dr Who a few weeks later. ;)

Dr Who is not terribly popular among the majority here, I agree that it should be part of an overall sci-fi television/film forum, I mean 10 active Dr Who participants is nothing. There's no Logan's Run forum for a reason.

We could call it "The Shoe Department". They'd be sure to find it that way. :lildevil:
PS - Expanding our knowledge of other Mego toys wouldn't be a terrible thing, although I fear the Cher crowd. They might run us off in a matter of days. The real problem would be obtaining the subject matter experts that could answer all the questions that we would inevitably get by encouraging discussion of things most of us thankfully know little about.

A stand alone Star Trek forum would be immensly popular here.
If there's a Dr Who, why not a Trek one?

I may be the only one but I think we should have something for the new members. Give them a section where they introduce themselves and maybe a Q&A section so we don't get so many new members asking the same questions in all the other forums.

Coming late to the discussion, but I feel there are TOO MANY forums right now. I'd prefer adjusting some of the ones we have rather than adding. I generally came here for Mego but stayed when I found a bunch of people with whom to share my other 70's obsessions- superheroes, toys and TV!
I've found I don't even have time to stop by some of the other forums like packaging. That one in particular seems like most of its posts could go to fact or customs.

My suggestions.
We already have the "Mego-Like" forum so I would prune "Relica Chat" and merge the "Packaging" forum into "Mego Fact".
As far as any other boards new non-mego/non-toy related boards i.e. Dr Who, I feel they are unnecessary, we have the "General Buzz" forum which is perfect for members who may have gotten out of Megos for one reason or another but still enjoy the community aspect of the board.

That would be a PR nightmare, new members don't need to be alienated anymore than they already are around here.
I can just see the comments now...
"I don't know why you are posting this here! It should be posted in the "Newbie Forum".

APES! APES! APES! I think a POTA section is WAAY more than merited. Considering there are some forums here that are...ummm...cough...well...maybe I'd better clam up now. ;)
And yeah...good point about Star Trek. I personally don't LOVE the property, but c'mon..Dr. WHO?? Whats Trek, about a BILLION times more popular? No disrespect to the Who fans, but facts are facts...

I think Gen Buzz is a good place for talking other toy lines vintage or modern. Gen Buzz covers it all. Pop culture, toys, movies, TV. I agree more is not better.
