Got home tonight and couldn’t wait to snap some pics and do a comparison of Kirk and the Klingon with their original counterparts.
Got a set from SDCC yesterday (the only set I saw on the floor, actually) and what was funny was that at first, the only reason I walked towards them is I thought they were original and wanted to see what they were going for. I know it’s so obvious when you see the card front that they are different, but the front is SO similar that at first glance I thought they were originals.
Anyway, here are some pictures and a review. Most know that I’m pretty “Pro” reproduction stuff so that opinion obviously colors my review.
PACKAGING
As you can see the front is very similar to the original artwork with obvious copyright changes, the nicely done addition of the Andorian and Romulan to the front, and a slightly awkward WARNING sticker that I think could have been better integrated into the overall design. The back of the card has a VERY awesome, period-feeling shot of the 6 main characters (LOVE IT!) and a nice statement about Marty. My only criticism of the back is the inclusion of the dates of availability with the figures. This I think detracts from the shot, and frankly I think dates the package unnecessarily. I can assume they are doing it to help advertise the figures which makes sense, but it just feels more like an advertisement then a package shot. I would have went with “COMING SOON” instead of specific dates.

I initially was very excited about the cut-away resealable cards but as Hulk mentioned, the end results are spotty. I have a pretty killer pair of scissors that made short-order of the plastic, but consider it basically impossible to do open them in a way that will look clean. I hope that EMCE makes pre-cut versions of these cards available, not only for his figures but for the repro-card fans in the audience (I checked, and yes an original card will fit, but not with the blister attached so you won’t be able to seal your original figures inside like you can with a SuperClam)

Here’s a shot of the carded figures with some loose originals I had for display. These are not minty loose figures I’m using for comparison but you’ll get the gist.

FIGURES
Here’s the best way I can describe taking these figures out of the package – like being a kid at Christmas. My hat is WAY OFF to the Doc for delivering, hands down, the most MEGO-like experience to come along since the originals. As you can see, the likenesses (especially the faces) are even better than what we’ve seen previously from him. The skin color is a little more tan, but otherwise the facial shape and details are incredibly close. Kirk’s eyebrows are painted a little thin, but he has the exact shade dark-brown hair as the original. The likeness of the Klingon in particular is remarkable. The “thinning” effect present in his WGSH heads are gone. One thing that I was really worried about was the “hard head” syndrome we’ve experienced with Doc’s heads in the past and that appears to be gone as well. The heads are much squishier and feel only slightly thicker than the originals. I popped one of the heads off and put it back on with no problem.
My only real complaint here (and this may be more of a production issue) is that each of the legs on my Kirk figure are different. One is hard plastic, the other is hollow and squishy. I’m going to assume I got some sort of error on the leg but we’ll see what happens when more of these get out.

ACCESSORIES AND CLOTHING
Pictures are worth 1000 words here
http://www.albertpenello.com/mego/trek8.JPG
http://www.albertpenello.com/mego/trek10.JPG
Anyone that has seen the Doc’s Trek pants or shirts before knows what they are getting with Kirk. Pants are more nylon-ish, the shirt is brighter and the sleeve rankings are sewn farther apart. Nobody is going to mistake Kirk for an original figure in a picture. Also, the foil emblem is already peeling away and leaving a slight residue on the shirt.
Klingon on the other hand is a whole different ballgame.
Again, my hat goes off to the Doc because the costume on the Klingon is absolutely fantastic. Truly an amazing replica. Again, many experts here can easily spot the slight color and material differences, and the grain in the vinyl is slightly tighter, but man it's really an unbelievable replica of that suit. There is very slight amount of crotch-sag in the pants, but nothing like we dealt with on the CTVT figures. Bring on the GORN!!
Accessories have some good news, and some bad news.
The good news is that the Klingon boots are awesome. Far-and-away the best replica of the Blackbeard boots - much superior to the CTVT ones, and IMO the best boots the Doc has ever done. They are glossier than the originals, but they don’t suffer from the super-thick, hard boot problem of Doc’s previous mass-produced boots. Like the heads, they are thin and pliable like the originals and look very, very good. Unfortunately, there are no markings on them which may make them harder to spot in photos, but will be very obvious in person.
Belts appear to be the same ones Doc has been selling. e.g. close to original but a little too long.
The weapons are also fantastic. The detail in the small-parts of the phaser are truly great. There are some very nuanced differences, but effectively they are perfect. Other than the “7” very clearly imprinted on the handle (yay!) and the fact that they aren’t faded (yay!), you would never be able to tell the difference unless you get up close. The phaser does not stay locked in the holster and falls out immediately (they are rubber-banded together on the card). This appears to be a flaw in the belt design as the phaser clips perfectly in a vintage belt.
The communicator is not marked (boo!) and is also, effectively, perfect. It’s flat on one side like the original. It’s exactly the same size. I haven’t compared to a variety of communicators, but they only way you’re going to tell is by looking at them in person. The original I have here has some casting flash on it, and the Doc’s communicators have no flaws. This may cause some consternation, particularly for the red weapons which are less common.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Anyone with a pre-order is going to be very pleased with their purchse, I have no doubt. After living with CTVT for the last couple years (who have done some very good things), the Doc has delivered on his promise of true Mego figures and you do forget the quality and attention to detail that he puts into his work.
Overall, the figures are about what I was expecting - slightly exceeding my expectations in some ways. This sounds bad but it's not. They are common figures so it’s very hard to go completely nuts over them. They are using Doc’s bodies, love ‘em or hate ‘em.
The heads are much, much better than expected and I had pretty high expectations. The weapons are fantastic, 10/10, but I would have liked to have seen some mark on the communicator. Klingon boots are great and PLEASE start selling the boots and weapons separately, Doc!!
Kirk is good, but the Klingon really is a masterpiece of reproduction especially considering it was reverse engineered. It make the Apes fan in me long for Paul to do those suits as well. If the Klingon is any indication of the attention to detail for the remainder of this line, the Andorian and Romulan are going to blow everyone’s minds. All I ask is that those parts are all marked somehow to avoid any confusion over real parts.
Anyone who loves Megos should go out and support this line – even if you don’t want them for yourselves give them to a kid, or Trek fan you know. I can’t wait to see where this line goes.

Great review! Very thorough. I can't wait to get mine. I think the best thing about all of this is that those of us that can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on Andorians and Romulans are going to get a chance at owning a reproduction. If these two are any indication, then we have a lot to look forward too. This kind of reminds me of Hasbro's Timeless Collection. Not exactly like the originals, but good enough to bring back some old memories; and they're affordable enough to be able to open them up guilt free!

Thanks for that thorough review and all the pics, Albert. I am now looking forward to getting mine even more
Great review Albert. I agree with you on a lot of things. Not so much on the Klingon Boots. I am a fan of the CTVT versions, although I find them a bit on the thick side. The ones on these figures seem a bit too thin for my liking, but somewhere in the middle (aka Mego originals) would be perfect.

From the pics, I’m also very impressed with the Klingon. Everything looks spot on. Right down to the fake leather on his shirt. I'm amazed they were able to get the fabric so close.
I agree Kirk looks a tiny bit off. Like you mentioned the space between the command bands and the shirt is definitely much more yellow than gold. The neck also looks a tad longer to me.
Still, absolutely fantastic! Just not as dead on vintage perfect as the Klingon.
Thanks for the pics and reviews. I can’t wait until I get my set.

QUOTE]
Is Kirk's neck longer on these new figs??
I dunno, maybe it's just me, but it looks as if his black collar doesn't ride up as high, giving the illusion his neck is longer.
Gotta see shirtless comparison shots I reckon.
I can't believe how spot-on Klingon is. Awesome.

That's a good point. It may very well be the collar giving the illusion of a slightly longer neck in the photo.

If I'm not mistaken Doc Mego is part owner of EMCE, so in a way he is mentioned on the back
Thanks for all the info! Very interesting! I'm eager to receive my set!

The heads are the same size, I just double-checked. It is the way the shirt is sewn - on the old figures the collar rides up differently and makes the neck appear to be shorter.

Great review, Albert. Looks like Doc hit a homer with this one. I think I like the Kirk paint job on the new one better than the original. Maybe it's just a painting anomoly, but your original seems to have a worried expression.
Potentially scary question: In the comparison pics, which Klingon is the original? The one on the left?
I'm not really into Trek, but I'm so tempted by the upcoming aliens.

Hey Steve!
In the pictures, the repro Klingon is on the Right.
Repro Kirk is on the Left.

I forgot to ask before, does any know how the tricorder straps are going to be on these? They always broke on my originals. That's one thing on these I'd like not to be like the vintage ones.

Glad to hear that you like the first two figures.
I heard from Ken Abrams that Diamond was sold out of them on the first day of Comic-Con in San Diego. I don't know how many they
brought, but it sounds like a good omen to me.
Kirk and the Klingon came out a little darker than I had wanted -
due to a last minute issue with EU compliant materials. I have
received samples of Spock and the Andorian (now being soliciated
by Diamond to retailers - order yours now) and the heads are
much better.
Once I send a set to Diamond and get their okay, I will post pics.

I know this is way too early, but could you let us know how the sales went for the first set in a couple of months? Like how many figures were made and how many were sold? Just to give us an idea of how succesful they were and if maybe we can expect more figures after the first 3 sets

Let me start by saying, I love the figures! With that being said, there are a couple of things that could have been done better.
1. The card is very flimsy, not too tragic but I would have liked a firm backing card.
2. The phasers do not fit into the holder securely. Now I now why they were held in place by string.
3. My kirk has an awesome tan! He is very dark looking. Still, nothing really bad.
The good stuff.
1. I actually like the plastic clam shell! I opened it and sealed it back up again with ease.
2. The plastic used in these figures is top notch. It makes the figure sturdy and easily to display.
3. Klingon is almost dead on! Beautiful repo figure!
Overall I love these figures and pre-ordered a case of spock/andorian from Paul. I'm real happy Doc Mego and EMCE toys are doing these. I felt like a kid again opening these figures!

I opened mine up today. Man, that Klingon is freakin awesome. I'd swear it was original. My Kirk features the hollow left leg also.
I used cutlery scissors to open mine. The clamshell is a little brittle, but these scissors worked very well for me. I got clean edges and I can actually reuse em
Man this is cool.
Cannot wait til the rest of em come out.

I received my Kirk and Klingon a couple of days ago. They both look fantastic. I opened Kirk, and noticed that both lower legs (the black booted part) feel hollow. Is this a defect? or are they all that way? My original Mego Kirk and Spock both have solid-feeling lower legs/boots.

I'm still hoping someone will answer my question - on whether this is a defect. I was expecting that at least the figure would be perfect. My original Kirk has a broken leg, so I was hoping to get one where the body was completely intact. The lower legs on my Kirk are flimsy. You can bend the foot easily, and the leg squishes in your fingers if you press hard. I'd like to know if this is the design, or a defect. I'm trying to decide whether to return it and try to get it replaced, or just never order any more of these. Thanks!

Great review. I like the side by side comparisons because that's how much I scrutinize repros myself. Where is the best place to buy these right now? What was your total cost for both of those figures with shipping? Man, I wish Walmart would grab holds of these figures. Can you imagine how well they would do and the kind of licensing that would unfold form there? It could be a new age for Mego!!!

I know I complained earlier about the hollow legs, but I must say, the heads and phasers/communicators and the Klingon all-around are AWESOME! The likenesses are truly unbelievable. I actually think Kirk's head looks better than the original. Had it not been for the hollow legs, and the flawed phaser belts, I would give both figures an A+
I'm just really bummed about the hollow legs for some reason. I was really expecting those to be 100% authentic (and solid). Oh well. :cool_y:
I will definately order everything that comes out of this series. I was especially excited to see the extra phaser/belt/communicator set that came with each set ordered from Starlog.com I had a broken phaser from my old Kirk, so now he can carry a brand new weapon! Live Long and Prosper Dr. Mego!

The belts will NOT hold a phaser. The phaser simply falls out, with almost no effort. The originals held the phasers and communicators firmly in place. You could (can) shake the figure, hold it upside down or drop it and the phaser would stay firmly in place. The new ones just don't cut it.

I noted that in my review, too. It's a flaw with the belt not the phaser. If you put the new phaser in the old belt, it holds fine.

I do like them fine, I never had a Kirk but I have had a Klingon since I can remember. (I just finished him up at Megomeet, he needed a phaser) and the reviews were spot on from what I see. I can't wait to get series two, I love Spock and Andorians are awesome!

It is strange about the belts if Doc can figure it out and sell a corrected belt on his site, I'd get it pronto.
I love the new figures. I love how Mego the heads are and how shiny the boots are.
My little quibbles are basically cosmetic. On original Mego Kirk the shirt is cut fuller, on this one it cinches in a bit at the waist. I think the fuller cut is more realistic. I also like the original insignia shape compared to the new one.
I fared okay opening the package. A good redesign that would make it perfect would be to get rid of the cut away plastic sealing. Have the plastic finished at the edge and put clear tape (similar to what is on the top of DVD cases) on the sides.
One could break the tape seal to open the package or just keep the tape seal in place.
Keep em coming Doc and EMCE :)

I went to local Comic & toys store last Tuesday and I found some of those Retro EMCE Star Trek Captain Kirk and Klingon and I bought 2 of them with great body shape and outfit. The other ones look pretty good 'cuz Captain Kirk's black collar moved slight to the left and or right in the front shirt, also his knee look like broke. So, I picked 2 the best shape figures and very good package shape (I'm picky ) but on the bottom of bubble on the corners have slight dent or crusted but Kirk looks awesome and in great shape. I can open it carefully and I'll push the bubble dent out like pop and then I'll buy slide clamps (clear see thru, no color) to hold the edges of package.
I brought them home with me and I put them in my the back bedroom is for Action Figures Museum room only. Click on those thumbnails:

I picked up the Emce toys Kirk and Klingon as well, and think they are fantastic. I have had an original Kirk and Klingon since I was a kid, but just couldn't resist when I saw these on the shelf. When you see them in the store next to the other Star Trek figures that are out now, you realize how much better the mego style figures look. I thought the Art Asyulum Trek stuff looked good, but side by side there is no comparison.
I hope the line is a huge success and continues for a long time.

Thank you for the excellent review. I have not studied the whole thread but I will.
I just opened my Scotty and I was worried about the Phaser not staying in the belt, I see that is a "feature."
Also, I checked and Scott's right leg is hollow and SPLIT down the back when I squeezed it. I think the other is hollow also but now I'm afraid to touch it again.
I have just recently, finally ordered figures for my collection. I ordered 10 Scotty's and got 2 as a gift. I'm disappointed that the boots are hollow, the belts don't hold phasers and the collars are wide and sort of flimsy, but the figures will all suit my purposes. I may review them in more detail later myself.
I also ordered 3 Andorians, Uhura, Romulan, Keeper, McCoy and Spock. That is about it. I have Kirk and a Klingon on hold at a local store. The only other repros I might want now are Sulu and Chekov. But I'm worried now about these boots. I was going to use these to play with with my son and/or a movie. But if they are going to split open... oh well.
Still, they are nice and should serve a purpose. Sad though that until today my collection is comprised of Original which all have bodies in good shape and are superior even though they are 30 yrs old.
Since this post follows the first post by 2yrs, I assume the boots are not going to be fixed. I also don't like the rank being so far apart but as I recall, that was also an issue on the original series as well.
God bless Doc Mego and Emce. I do like the material of Scotty's shirt but the pants feel flimsy to me. Maybe if Mego is reborn they will resolve these issues and maybe also use Gold Department Badges with logos like in the series which have been reproduced by customizers since then.

:smiley13: I found out something about these new EMCE type 2 bodies that kinda bugs me. :ugh_y:
Now, before I get into this, let me first say that I really do love this new Star Trek Retro figure line.
Having had all of the Enterprise crew and Klingon Megos (and the playset) as a kid way back in the seventies, then buying the entire Mego 6 figure set from Canada through Starlog Magazine back in the '80s, and now having collected ALL of this current EMCE Star Trek line (okay, I'm still waiting on my Khan) I have to admit that overall, the quality of this line is very impressive.
A job well done!!!
Okay..., here's the problem....
Now this may seem sacreligious, but has anyone else checked out how these new EMCE 'type 2' figures are strung together?
For those who may not be familiar with how the original Mego 'T2's were done, here's a brief rundown (for a better explanation, you can find an illustrated tutorial in the 'customegos' section of the forum):
Each leg was cross-connected with a rather mean looking tan 'elastic band/strap' to the opposite arm. One open end of this elastic was connected to the leg with a metal c-ring, the other end was attached to the opposite arm by a rather clever 2-part 'double hook/turnbuckle' piece, which hooked right into the hole opening on the arm. What I found so ingenious about this 'double hook' piece design was that it would allow you to turn the arm about without twisting up the elastic too much.
This I believe is why so many of these 34-ish year old elastic straps are still holding up on vintage megos. Of course, some haven't lasted, depending on how much play time/action a particular mego went through, or how long it was left outside, etc.
Now with that said, it looks like that same type of system was going to be used on these new action figures... however, they are not really strung together like that. I mean, all of the pieces are there, but not in the correct order.
With these EMCE bodies, that 2-part 'double hook' is now being used as 2 seperate hook pieces:
the leg has that metal c-ring, then the small hook part of that 'doublehook' is now hooked onto the c-ring, and this new white elastic piece is wrapped around this small hook piece.
Then the other end of the elastic is pulled up & hooked around the larger hook part (of that original 2-part 'doublehook') and this larger hook is hooked through the arm (now on the SAME side of the body, not the opposite side) where this large hook is clamped down closed, probably so the elastic and arm don't slip off.
So, that original 'double-hook' design is not being utilized at all.
Now this new elastic being used might be a better grade of elastic than what was available back in the 70's, although it seems a lot flimsier to me. Also, to get the correct tension on the body, it looks like they doubled it up when hooking it around the hooks, which probably explains why the leg is attached to the arm on the same side as the leg, instead of the arm on the opposite side, otherwise the elastic might snap.
Now, I think if you plan on leaving your EMCE figures in the clamshell, and not play with them much, that they'll probably hold up fine.
I gotta tell ya, though, I've had 2 figures break on me already (which is what lead to this discovery.):terror:
In my opinion, I see no reason why the 'double hook' piece is not being used as it was originally designed, even with these new elastics doubled up the way they are. I've now 'restrung' all of my EMCE figures with the RESTORED 'double hook' design and plan on doing the same to the Khan figure when it arrives.
Also, I've replaced the broken elastics with rubber o-rings, similar too what Doctor Mego sells, but these are a little smaller and a little thicker and I can get a package from my local hardware/home improvement store that'll supply me with enough o-rings to restring 5 figures for a couple of bucks.
I'm sure someone else, in another forum, has probably already discuss this (I can't believe I'm the first.) So, feel free to ignore this post if you've already come across something like this elsewhere.
I just felt like I had to say something.
Seriously, though, I love these new figures and I have no intention of sending any back.

May 21, '09, 1:33 AM
I'm not sending any back either, but I think I may try to sell my unopened duplicates. That is 1-2 Andorians right now. I didn't get the 10 Scotty's I ordered on sale at FAO but I'm not going to order extras now for Security Customs. I'll just piece them together perhaps. Unless I can find them for $5.00 again, they are worth the clothing and phasers at that price.
So I will acquire most of the line but I'm not going to make customs from these, I'll stick with Original Mego bodies. I have some set aside for customs. 6 I think if I have to use them for that.
If this stringing issue is on another thread, someone point it out please.
Thanks.

Hey Doug,
Look, this is really the only major issue I have with the new bodies, and it is easily fixable... that is, if your comfortable pulling these things apart. Heck, I do it all the time, especially with used megos I get on eBay.
The first thing I do when my 'win' arrives is take off the clothes (if it came with any) and I disassemble the body and hand wash everything in my bathroom sink with anti-bacterial soap (even the costumes), then towel dry everything and set it aside. I take apart the bodies so no moisture gets trap inside and rust the hooks.
As for these EMCE bodies (and so far, all of the blank male bodies I've received have come strung this way): I still order these bodies from Doc Mego for customs. I just take a moment to restring them. You gotta admit, the newe bodies with that soft PVC for the arms and legs are nice.
I haven't run into that problem you've had with the boot legs splitting... yet.
I've even order some blank ones for a couple of african/american ST customs (Dr. M'binga and security officer Lt. Shea- one of a very few security officers that didn't die). I'll have to check that out a little more thoroughly.
But, as to all of my EMCE ST Aliens (which is the first time I've ever owned any other than the Klingon) they've been restrung and using the exact same elastic that they came with (even with cross-attaching the arms and legs.)
Oh, and that tutorial I mentioned in my previous post: it's in the Customego forum under 'TIPS N TRICKS'. Just clicking on the 'Type 2 Body Repair' will take you to "Mike Farence's Mego Type 2 Body Tutorial". Not only does he demonstrate how to restring a type 2, but the pictures make it real easy to understand the mechanics of the design.

Ok, while setting up that photo of the Andorian Welcoming Committee, I noticed that the Phasers don't snap into the hands Either. But they do snap into the older Mego hands.
I noticed the Emce hands on the one Scott I opened are much more rubbery and pliable than the older Mego hands.
I wanted to suggest "Kung-Fu Grip" on Mego remakes but not like this. These hands are shaped liked Megos but are softer and thus the Phaser won't snap in place or stay in place.
Is this also a non-issue for the collectors who don't play with these like I do?

WoW! I just got my Andorian out to make Thelin and he is HEAVY! I mean he weights a lot more than my Original Spock. But I was afraid I would not be able to get his gloves and boots off, but I did.
However, his left hand got squished in the glove. But I don't want to open another one and try it. But I LIKE this body. I may weigh it on a food scale later. It is also pretty tightly strung. Thelin coming soon.

Use #67 O rings available at Lowes and Home Depot.
The ones I picked up from my local Home Depot are DANCO brand #10 O-Ring.
This is the size: 11/16" Outer Diameter, 1/2 " Inner Diameter, 3/32" thickness.
(In metric: 18mm O.D., 12mm I.D., 3mm thick)
I like this O-Ring size because it's really strong (have yet to break one, and I've deliberately tried to)
and I like the tension it gives the figure, especially the EMCE.
Of course, you can get the next size up (#11, or even 12) and see which you prefer.

I've encountered no ill affects washing the original mego tunics, especially on the gold trim (when there's some terrible stain, I'll hand wash the tunic with SPRAY N WASH stain treatment, even letting it soak in that over night!)
From what I can tell, and I'm looking right now at an original gold stripe I've salvaged from a really neglected tunic, it looks like some type of white nylon trim material with a metallic gold side, but I don't think it's mylar...although it could be.
Anyway, I've had no problems with these stripes at all. Real sturdy stuff!
I wished that's what they made the original emblems with.
What I remember bugging me the most was how the silver part
of the emblem would curl up on it's own
& practically blow away in the wind.
Most annoying. :enraged:
I wonder what they're
using on the new
Retro tunics?

Thanks actjac01, I have some WASHING to do!! I have some tunics so stained they are unuseable so I have nothing to lose, this will be cool if they come clean.
Can you PM me or post your washing process here? You spray them and let them sit? Then what? Soak them in a mild woolite or just anti-bacterial soap? Scrub them a bit? Let them sit for a while? How long? Then you soak them in plain water to "rinse" them? I guess I want details on what you mean by "hand wash" and soaking. Just so I follow the same steps.
I may have to try this on Sunday when I'm out working on my fence. They can be soaking while I'm doing home repairs. That will keep my wife happy with me.

OH, washing Original Mego clothes should be a How To on the TipsNTricks section of CustoMego!
I know, long ago, I read that it was difficult or impossible to wash those. that may have been 5years ago or longer. I remember someone saying how they didn't like having dirty, old, used uniforms... but they were afraid to wash them.
actjac01
May 24, '09, 1:43 AM
Okay, here's my basic technique
(I use this on clothes and bodies):
1-I get the water running as comfortably hot as my hands can stand,
then I run the water over the fabric, getting it all wet.
(Sometimes if I have a few items, I may fill up my sink first and dunk
everything in.)
2-I pump my favorite foaming anti-bacterial hand soap right onto the fabric
and start working that in. Why this particular type of soap? It's my favorite
type of hand soap so since it's already sitting there, that's what I grab
(I know, 'typical male'.) I figure any type of mild hand soap should do or
laundry detergent (like WOOLITE.)
3-Once I'm satisfied the piece is about as foamed up and as soapy as
possible, I rinse it off under cold water, getting all of the soap out.
4-Now I start squeezing the water out with my hands, but I don't twist the
fabric up. The trick here is not to ring the water out, just hand squeeze it.
5-To get more of the water out, I take my favorite bath towel (how'd you
know I was a bachelor?) I open the towel up on the bathroom counter and
lay the piece FLAT out on the towel, then fold some of the towel over the
top of the piece (so that the piece is 'sandwich' between towel) and start
hand pressing more water out. When that section of towel has become
pretty saturated with water, I move the piece to a dry section of the towel
and press some more. I keep doing this until I'm satisfied I've got as
much of the water out as I can, or I've run out of dry towel or I'm
just done with this part. You'd be surprised how quickly this little
technique speeds up the drying time. Then I set the piece aside to dry
more on it's own.
6-(optional) Sometimes I'll use a hair dryer on a low setting on the fabric
because..., well..., sometimes I just can't wait!
That's the basic technique I use on ALL the clothes. I mean, they are clothes,
even though they're made for action figures so they're tiny, but they're still clothes.
Now, about those STAINS....
Before I go on, I have to correct something from my previous post.
It's not Spray N Wash that I use.
I actually use SHOUT.
So how much to use and how long?
Well, I just followed the directions on the bottle. SERIOUSLY.
(These are just tiny clothes, right?)
Sometimes, I'll use the above hand washing technique first, to see how well that does, then use the SHOUT. Other times, I might start with the SHOUT first (spray the fabric, thoroughly soaking it, work it in by hand, rub the fabric with itself over the stain area, etc.) then proceed with the hand washing. I got the idea of the overnight soak right from back label on the bottle of SHOUT.
So, I haven't actually used SPRAY N WASH or WOOLITE yet. When I do, I'll just follow the manufacturer's suggestions on the bottle.
This is another product I have used, and it's doing alot better on a Spock Mego tunic than I thought it would. The product is FOLEX. It's a carpet stain remover. :terror: It does such an amazing job on my carpet, I said, "What the hey."
It's actually got a lot of what looks like 30 year old grease out of this tunic. I'll probably try it again to see just how clean I can really get it.
If you're interested, the website is: http://www.folex.net
And when I want to really get a head clean, especially dirt that's buried itself into small crevices (like the Neptunian head): an old toothbrush all foamed up with my trusty handsoap.
You think maybe I should invest in a tiny wooden wash tub?
Can't you just see Mr. Spock, stripped down to his blue undies and black boots, sittin' in one of those things with his little knees drawn up around his face while I'm hold one of his arms straight up, scrubbin' his underarms with my old toothbrush, with a dollop of foaming soap sittin' right on top of his head? :smiley1:

My only complaint is the badge. Mine are peeling, and seem oversized anyway. I'm debating the idea of embroidering one by hand in gold thread.

The gray part of the badge will not come off the shirt unless you REALLY
want to take it off. The silver top part can be removed before

A mouse got in the house a few years ago an P-P'd on one of my McCoys. I have him set aside. He needs to have his clothes cleaned but I keep putting it off. Derek, our Mego clothes-washer extrordiniere' told me what to do, (after he could catch his breath from laughing), but frankly thinking of handling it and cleaning it makes me ill.
