It appears that workers in our Government run Liquor Stores in Ontario are preparing to walk off the job at midnight.
I don't drink liquor but my wife enjoys an Italian red wine that you can only get at the LC so she asked me to sneak in and grab a month's supply (two bottles)
You know on the Simpson's when there is going to be a hurricane and they raid the Quickee Mart? That's what this looked like. Just bare shelves and panic. Every stereotype was there, the old lady and her gin, the young teen with her pre mixed coolers, all of them filling carts with liquor.
The cash register line was 20 people deep on every lane, I even saw a guy with beer, which is available elsewhere, must have been a fancy import.
We are a nation of souses!

Did Apu try to charge you $20 dollars for a bottle of Tylenol that was tampered with by an escaped mental patient?

It seems like every state, county, country has its own liquor laws.
Where I live in Maryland, the liquor stores are not run by the government but you can't buy beer or wine at a grocery store but it's available at some gas station convenience stores (I still haven't figured out the rationale behind that).
In an adjacent county, you have to purchase liquor from a government run store and they do sell beer and wine but you have to buy beer by the case and none of the wine or beer is sold cold. You can go to a beer and wine store and some grocery stores carry beer and wine.

Here in Florida you could buy beer, wine and liquor at grocery stores. Wal-mart even has it's own liquor store :smiley1:

In Jersey you have to buy beer, wine and booze only at a liquor stores... they're not state owned.
You can buy take-home beer at a gin mill, but there's a two 6-pack limit (I think)

We still have wet and dry counties in Kentucky. Most have gone wet now, though. There used to be a pretty famous liquor store on the Fayette/Scott County line called "Last Chance/First Chance Liquors".
Our Wal-Mart sells liquor, as does our Rite-Aid. Except on Sunday. No liquor sales on Sunday.
I don't drink, so none of this ever bothers me.

Isn't bum wine considered liquor?

Oh wow, I have to go and see this. My drinking these days is confined to a couple beers in a bar from time to time, so I'm not worried, but that's gotta be a colorful crowd to behold.

Wait till they all run out and the strike is not over yet.

Oh man, do the bars get their beer from the LCBO? Is that how it works? We are doomed.
Actually, I think they reached a tentative agreement this afternoon.

Yikes, I never even heard about this. Are just LCBO stores potentially affected, or beer stores and those wine kiosks they have in some retail stores as well?
Luckily we bottle our own wine, so we have plenty of that in stock, and I guess I could go for the occasional beer run over the border if this drags on. Still, Canadians not having access to booze can get ugly fast. :smiley1:

Ontario needs to privatize their liquor stores like Alberta did. We got liquor stores everywhere and anywhere these days....and sadly, the drunks too!

When they privatized the ruling politico's were the ones who "won" the bids for the primo locations. The Premier at the time owned TWO liquor stores.
Yes, Canada does have some similarities to Banana Republics...:smiley1:

I could probably drive 30 minutes in any direction and buy moonshine 7 days a week. Welcome to Tennessee :dance1:

It appears that Florida, like California, has reasonable liquor laws.
In California all booze can be had at grocery stores, convenient stores, liquor stores etc etc from 6am to 2am 7 days a week.
I currently live in Kansas and liquor laws out here are just stupid.

When I first visited California, I was floored that I could buy not just beer, but a bottle of liquor at a grocery store. Being from Ontario, I could barely wrap my head around that concept. The funny thing was, when I first arrived (business trip) I stopped at a liquor store to pick up a bottle of Jack to take back to the hotel, and then went to the grocery store for snacks. I then saw that I shouldn't have bothered stopping at the liquor store first. But that kind of behavior was just ingrained in me. :smiley1:
