Well I didn't post the link because i don't want to make anyone mad,it's just I can't figure out why the big amount now ? I know it's rare but i mean...it's not THAT rare is it?
saucerful
Jun 21, '09, 11:46 AM
I think it is pretty rare, Twiki. I'll let the heavies weigh in here, but since my adult collecting began I have not seen this ever sell on the low end.

it only takes two bidders with deep pockets for any K card

Jun 21, '09, 12:57 PM
Well since it's not hidden any longer (he put "Mego" in the description so you can find it doing a simple "Mego" search as long as you check the title and description box), here's the link we're talking about:
vintage 1972 spiderman doll - eBay (item 250448241217 end time Jun-29-09 19:48:39 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250448241217&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&salenotsupported)
And yes...I will be bidding on it. Been wanting this one for a while
Twiki1979

wow i can't believe you posted the link :terror: uh oh,here we go....:drool_y:
Megospidey
Jun 21, '09, 1:46 PM
^^ What does it matter now? Anyone can find it since it's no longer hidden. And I think as this goes higher, you're going to have a lot of watchers and a lot less actual bidders. And I don't think it's going to fetch anything outrageous since it's not in mint condition.
Twiki1979
Jun 21, '09, 1:47 PM
How is it not hidden? Did he add mego to the title?
Megospidey
Jun 21, '09, 1:53 PM
^^ Have you not been reading your own thread? You can do a search with title and description (which most people do)...the word "Mego" is now in his description.
That is how it not hidden. An auction is only hidden if the word "Mego" or "Kresge" is NOT in either the title or the description, since people can search both.
Highquality found it after he added "mego" and "kresge" to the description.
BTW - it really was no longer hidden once you started this post. People began looking for it immediately.

Well I have only seen like two Kresge Spidey's for sale. I think it is very rare as with any Kresge's.
Megospidey
Jun 21, '09, 2:06 PM
Oh, I'm not upset with him at all Bryan...not one bit.
And even though he "semi-outed" the auction :smiley1: by starting this thread, the real "outing" occurred from the seller who probably without even realizing it will actually get more hits now for his auction than before.
I'm still going after him (spidey that is)...
Megospidey
Jun 21, '09, 2:09 PM
Also just noticed in the auction description that he misspelled "Kresege" - too bad he didn't misspell "Mego"

This is just the first mego i've ever seen go so high on the first couple of days...usually it's in the last 20 minutes and i just had to know why:wink:

I wouldn't call this a hidden auction at all because it comes up in a title and description search.
Keep in mind, though, if you post about something that is still "live" on ebay, it will draw attention to it, regardless of whether or not it is a hidden auction. To the members of this site, crisp MIP Megos are like crack to a drug addict.

Twiki, I have learned this lesson here on the boards and it comes up every now and again....some people feel differently, but most of the members here prefer that folks do not publicly post "hidden auctions" so that they can be won in secret and then shared afterwards. In many cases, "outing the hiddens" actually does make a difference in the bidding and the end price. Sending PM's and emails to chat with specific members is totally okay.

He's the most popular of the Mego figures and he doesn't come up for sale very often on a Kresge card.
From 2 very reputable sellers...
Take your pick:
SPIDER-MAN MEGO Sealed on a KRESGE CARD~ (http://cgi.ebay.com/SPIDER-MAN-MEGO-Sealed-on-a-KRESGE-CARD_W0QQitemZ290292883663QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_0?hash=item4396cde0cf&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116)

^^ Hey Rob -
The figure being sold by John (superdupersuperstore) is the same figure I bid on about 2 and half years ago...I came in second. I know what he paid for it and he's asking more than double for it now.
The second figure has extensive restoration work done to the card, so I'm not interested in it.
I've been patiently waiting for another one to come up...I'm hoping I can get this one for about what I lost the other one last time.
However, I believe Lonnie Fisher is bidding on this one...so who knows.

2k for a kresge spidey?? is that right??
Megospidey
Jun 21, '09, 10:29 PM
^^ I don't think so. The first one has been for sale for about 2 years and hasn't sold. The second one about a year and hasn't sold. So I would say no....at least not in the condition those two are in.

Hey that sucks Twiki, no one shoud have to learn the hard way, new or not.
If in doubt, always ask the museum (unless its a hidden auction :smiley1:), Weve got a lot of expert dm spotters over here who could perhaps save you some hassle.

If I remember correctly, two people got in a bidding war over that figure. Not sure it would bring that kind of money now, but who knows on a true minty Kresge carded figure.
This figure (the auction we're discussing) should go between $800-1200 based upon what I've noticed over the past 4 or 5 years (and I've been tracking these - sadly, not many have come up for sale to track).
But with the recession still on us...who knows where people will drop out. Maybe someone will get it for a song :wink_y:

I love Kresges and only have 2 MOC. But I'll stay away from this one for you.
Megospidey
Jun 22, '09, 10:13 AM
^^ Scott, do not do that for me. If this is a figure you want, go for it brother! You will not offend me one bit.
John - I've owned a repro-carded one and I do not think this one is a repro. I've seen an original carded one, and it looks every bit the real deal.
But...I would love to hear some others chime in on this.

Jun 22, '09, 10:19 AM
This is the first time I have seen one of these and I must say I am surprised that it has the same two pictures on each side of the figure. I am also surprised that this is one of the hardest to find considering it was the best-selling figure - obviously I know very little about Kresges.
