Looks like he is the new Sorcerer Supreme with a new title to reflect that new status.

Comic Book Resources > CBR News: Talking New Avengers with Bendis! (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=21637)

It was the quasi-sentient artifact the Eye of Agamotto that chose the new Sorcerer Supreme at the end of “New Avengers” #53, and the choice of Brother Voodoo (a.k.a. Jericho Drumm) surprised a number of readers. “We discussed who would have the most interesting stories to tell if there was to be a new Sorcerer Supreme and we thought Brother Voodoo -- who will now be referred to as Doctor Voodoo since he's an actual doctor and it isn't the '70s [laughs] -- was a great choice,” Bendis told CBR News.

“If you hear the pitch of who Doctor Voodoo is, you go, 'Hey that's pretty interesting,'” Bendis said. Doctor Voodoo had to learn magic to stop a powerful sorcerer and avenge his brother's murder. “His dead brother's soul is inside him so he's got this constant voice telling him what to do. He was a reluctant hero who had things thrust upon him and those characters are always the best.

“We also thought him not knowing he was going to be chosen as the next Sorcerer Supreme opened up different layers of magic as well,” Bendis continued. “Sometimes lazy writers would write Doctor Strange as a wash away, but there was a lot of logic to his powers. With Doctor Voodoo, if you do your research on Voodoo and use it as the template to build your fantasy, there's a lot of cool stuff you can do there. It's a new bag of tricks.”

^ Yeah Bendis' run on New Avengers has been pretty crappy for quite a while (all of those behind the scnes of the Skrull Invasion with no real pay-off IMO)....I think I'll finaly be dropping this title as well. Instead of putting his efforts and much-lauded writing skills into a kickass Dr. Strange story, he gives us a replacement who is best left to the 1970s....Brother-Freakin'-Voodoo....how lame.

I never imagined I'd ever see the day that they would launch a Brother Voodoo solo title that was not written and drawn by Fred Hembeck.

To be Honest,.. I didn't even Know Dr. Strange was an Avenger ,.. I guess now ... lol. :smiley1:

Non of this even affects my reading.

I bailed on all things Avengers Long ago,.. & Only read Dark Avengers,.. Dark Hawkeye,.. & Picked up my 1st issue of Ms Marvel last week.

It seem as if Dr. Strange is getting screwed on all Fronts...
In the Ultimatum Book,.. # 4

*Spoiler Alert*

That Dormammu dude choked his Arse out with his very own sash tied around his waist,.. & choked his so Flipp'in hard ,.. His head popped off ! :smiley1:

But thats another 'universe' ,.. or whatever,... it seems that the Ultimate Universe is Hell bent on Killing atleast 75percent of the Hero's in this Book for some reason,. I keep thinking I am going to see the shower Scene with Patrick Duffy on the last page,.. & Stan Lee waking up,.. Opening the Bathroom door. :smiley1:

I was just listening to the Word Balloon Podcast with Loeb, and he actually mentions that he had written that kind of "reset" button into the end of Ultimatum originally, but everyone else (including Bendis) had talked him out of it because it would be much more interesting for them to deal with the repercussions of all those deaths and destruction, much like they had to do after The Hulk's rampage in The Ultimates.

"Doctor Voodoo: Avenger of the Supernatural" is a new ongoing title launching soon while Dr. Strange gets a mini-series treatment by Mark Waid. I like Waid's work so I'll probbaly pick up the mini but Brother/Doctor Voodoo leaves me uninterested.

And something that's bugging me....Doctor Strange was DOCTOR Strange because he was a doctor prioor to being tapped as the Sorceror Supreme....it has nothing to do with his mystical abilities. So why is Brother Voodoo becoming DOCTOR VOODOO? Stupid....:ugh_y:

He was a Doctor (psychiatrist) before becoming Brother Voodoo.

Don't count out Doctor Strange just yet!

Newsarama.com : Behind the Page - Brian Michael Bendis, pt. 1 (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/090623-behind-bendis-1.html)

NRAMA: So what was your Dr. Strange story?

BMB: You know, I keep shoehorning it in and I'm almost there. I did things like Dr. Strange had walked the earth like Caine in Kung Fu and figured out what it means to be the Sorcerer Supreme.

NRAMA: Yeah, you're kind of doing that.

BMB: I just keep slowly whittling it away. So we're almost there, if people are reading New Avengers. But I literally had that story in my head since I was seven.

And no one wants it but me. I know this. It's OK.

Looks like Bendis has A Plan.
