    Differentiating or Tagging your Originals

    I need help.

I have 2 Original Mego Klingons from my childhood. I have bought 2 other repros (edit to clairfy I meant to say 2 OTHER ORIGINAL MEGOS) on eBay since then. Now I'm making uniforms for all 4 of them.

How do I mark or "tag" my originals so I can tell them apart? I can't see their sentimental value after all.

I have thought of tape, but eventually that may leave a permanent residue. I guess I could put some thread around their waist!

It would not interfere with anything. That may be the easiest. Unless I get a better suggestion I'll do that. I can post a pic later if anyone cares.

I have used all my space at the Gallery. I am working on a permanent solution to file storage for photos on my new server space.

Thanks for helping me work this out.

Isn't it great that the replicas are so good that you need to mark the originals to identify them!

Yes, I'm amazed that MOST of the stuff I've bought is in such great shape. I have been lucky I'm sure.

If you are customizing them, why does it matter?

I don't understand your question. I stated in the first post that I would like to tell them apart and that I can't "see" sentimental value.

So, for sentimental reasons, I'd like to be able to tell them apart. I'm also customizing them for myself, not for sale, so I'll be keeping them all and they may get mixed up. Like the Klingons are about to get mixed up now.

I thought that was pretty obvious from my first post but maybe not.

right, if they are being stripped and customized what difference does it make, unless you keep the old Mego suits and restore them at some point in the future. And I need to go check, but am pretty sure the new klingons are stamped EMCE or something on the heads instead of Mego 197-whatever the date was.

Also, just compare the Doc to Mego original bodies. Lots of differences. Doc's torsos or hard plastic, not blow molded. Doc's arms and legs are really soft flexible plastic, too.

I apologize. I mean that the 2 others I have are also Originals, not repros.

You are correct. Emcees are copyright 2008 I think, CBS Corp on the neck and EMCE TOYS! on the body. Easy to tell them from original Megos. No original Mego stamp on the new Emce neck/body.

Sorry about that. I've edited my first post to clarify that.

well, it does say repros in your post up there.

Yes, Thunderbolt, I apologize. I left the original post intact and added that edit for clarification. Thank you.

Get a little piece of masking tape and write MINE on it.

Then stick it to the inside of the uniform.

                        Seems simple enough

Tie a coloured thread to the shoulder joints? Put a sticker on the plastic instead of the fabric so it will clean off? Take fingerprints and dental x-rays of all your megos?

Aye, it seems simple enough. But as I'm changing uniforms I need to mark the Mego figure. The thread on the waist idea works very well, I think. I will post a pic later. But it turns out that the first Klingon I marked has a Screw in his knee from 1978 or so I guess and that is an easy one to differentiate.

But thanks, I got it. Pix to follow I hope. I just took one but have yet to upload it anywhere. I did start a Photobucket account though and maybe 1GB will hold me for a while.

                              DENTAL RECORDS! That's it!

But seriously, I just posted that the thread on the waist will work but now I'm wondering if there are Mego Dog Tags. Are there?

I'll post a pic of the Klingon I marked. Thanks everyone.
