Batman Superman Generations by John Byrne

I finally got around to reading this and was pleasantly surprised. It really is Byrne's love letter to past era's of Batman and Superman.

It really made me remember why I was such a big fan of Byrne's as a kid.

If only one of the Big Two would give him his own playground like this one to do whatever he wanted with. I am probably in the minority that would like to see Byrne on an FF or Alpha Flight series that picks up immediately after where he left the title (in the same vein as Chris Claremont's upcoming X-Men Forever).

^^ Especially the FF one, ALpha Flight always seemed like he was going thru the motions on the book. He was done with it, that's why he swapped with Mantlo and Mignola on Hulk.

I loved the first 2 Generations mini-series (the "prestige format" ones) but didn't get to far into the standard format Generations 3....that one was 12-issues I think.

I have all the series. Great concept although the 3rd one was a bit hard to follow till I re-read it.

The first two were INCREDIBLE! I loved them both! I would buy a Generations: Secret Origins Who's Who like they've done for other books and characters - y'know those books that were all $4.95. Just to be able to follow the characters in Byrne's Universe.

The third one jumped around a lot. I'd read around the interweb that it wasn't a fan-favorite, all the Byrne-haters came out and just bashed it. Especially the part near the end between Superman and Saturn Girl, or Lana or Lois. Y'know, the kiss...

I enjoyed it, but only after reading all twelve issues together...

Unfortunately, I've followed Byrne's recent stuff at Marvel, DC and Dark Horse, and he seemed to be trying to repeat the X-Men themes...

Maybe it's just me...

While not everything Byrne has done has thrilled me, his work on the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Superman are all classic.

He had good art runs on Captain America, Avengers, Iron Fist and Marvel Team-up were great too.

Generations was fun and I'd love to see him do some more work for DC and Marvel.

I actually enjoyed his Doom Patrol and JLA run (most people trashed those).

I liked the generations story...and his Cap America/Batman crossover story. Great stuff.
Right now, any of his Trek stuff for IDW is amazing.

I really liked the first two. A strange mix of just about every version of Superman and Batman and all their imaginary stories to boot, but he made them work. I liked how he tied it into his Batman/Captain America as well, which is indeed a great book on it's own!

I thought he was stretching things out a bit with the third one and skipped it.
