LOL - eBay will have them for $49.99 for anyone too stupid to do a little research! I understand the neccisity of a secondary market but it's pretty low for these schmuck to be putting the Hot Topic and Urban Outfitter Joe's out for as much as $50 when you can find them in almost any mall in the country or order them online at their websites for $15!

I'll do you one better. It's the members of the GI Joe Club who are feeling the burn right now. Here the "Club" has been putting out these "exclusive" reproductions of the Adventure team figures for $50+ a piece and now their all coming out for $9.99. What an utter screw for those poor collectors who bought into that nonsense.:please_y:

Well in all fairness, the club had to buy much lower numbers than Wal-Mart hence the higher price. I have never seen one doll in Hot Topic, where do they keep them?

As for the Wal-Mart ones, I will be filling my cart this fall.

I had no luck with any of the Hot Topics in my area, of which I visited about three or four different ones. I never saw one Joe there, and when I'd ask the staff they had no idea what I was even talking about. Given their purple hair and the fact that they're about 17 years old, I wasn't surprised LOL I wound up buying mine on the secondary market but I paid a very fair price for them, far less than $40. I'm looking forward to the Wal-Mart releases, hopefully I have better luck with those.

There are three Malls in my area and all three have Hot Topics. Every one of them has had both the Land Adventurer and Air Adventurer figures. I bought two of each from two different stores. The layout of each store is slightly different and I have found them in different areas in different stores AND at different times. You just have to look but the stores aren't that big and you also have to check because I have observed them selling out and then restocking a week later. You are right about the staff being useless. They wouldn't know a G.I. Joe if a talking was behind them on the shelves continually repeating "Hello, I'm a G.I. Joe"!

When the Land Adventurer was first announce I just assumed none of my stores would get them so I ordered one online. It was the same price online and I also got a cool kung fu grip T-shirt. At that time they were having a special promotion on free shipping for orders over $25 so I got it delivered to my house for free.

They did a really nice job on the figures (although the Land Adventurer ahd the wrong gun and the Air Adventurer had the Sea Adventurer's uniform). I hate to say this but at $15 each it is cheaper to buy these guys for reproduction parts than to order from Cotswold!

Glad to read of similar experiences in Hot Topic.

I went in one about two weeks ago searching for Joes and I have never felt so old in my life. I would have felt less out of place in a Chuck E Cheese.

Walmart just has the sheer buying power to get them so cheap.

I belong to the Gi joe club and I have all the AT figures they have made less the Land Adventurer so far, only because I don't want to pay around $150ish for him at eBays going rates... Not yet anyway... :smiley1:

So far they have yet to be burned or anyone else to be burned by these store exclusive figures.

The figures the club is putting out are totally different then what the stores are putting out all together.

The club is putting out the regluar hand AT figures with the first issue boxes at $50, the stores are doing Kung Fu grip figures with KFG boxes at $10-15, two totally differnt figures and boxes.

Unless the club is/was putting out KFG figures at $50 then no one in the club is getting burned by the $10-15 price tag by Walmart.

If Walmart put out the AT regular hand and first issue box figures at $10-15, then yes, I would agree with you.

I managed to snag one from Hot Topic and one from Urban Ouitters (two different ones) and they are pretty nice looking.

No one will mistake them for originals, but the boxes are close enough to look good on my display shelf.

Hol-lee Toldeo Globe, thanks for the tip! I don't know if you meant the stores or not but the figures ARE on Urban Outfitter's website for only $6.99 and apparently they have plenty. At least they DID have plenty! I just bought a boat load and even with tax and shipping it still only came out to $8 each. You can barely get reproduction KFG hands from Cotswold for that and these hands are superior to theres!

Good deal.....
But I'll pass.
It is a crime they did the Air Adventurer in the wrong uniform. They put him in the Sea Adventurer uniform just as Maijer stores did with their Air Adventurer excluse.

Someone was sleeping at Hasbro when they did this one.

Again great deal, but I will pass.

Yeah, that was pretty stupid. And they didn't put enough hair on the Meijers, either, but I still rather have those than the Hot Topics or Urban Outfitters b/c they have nice repros of some of the original accessories.

I am not trying to convince anyone to buy these figures for their collectibility or the geat attention paid to detail. What I am saying though is that for $7 you can barely buy a pair of reproduction hands that are not even as good a quality as the ones on these figures. I know that as a person who repairs and restores vintage Joe figures, if I pull the hands and shoulder holsters off of these reproductions I am already over $7 worth of reproduction parts if I bought them seperately. Now add to that the fact that I can pretty much use everything here and I am coming out WAY ahead on the deal. This is also a great opportunity to introduce younger generations (but not young or stupid enough to eat the small parts) to the fun of PLAYING with G.I. Joe (remember that?). I admit that dressing the Air Adventurer in the Sea Adventurers clothes was a sloppy move from a collector's perspective but if that's what it takes to get repro KFG figures marked down to $7, I'm in!

"We are sorry, but this product is no longer available."

It sold out online. I guess EBAY will be flooded with these things within the next few days. I ordered six, got my shipping notice yesterday. I don't have any plans on reselling mine. Hey Sweep Secondhand, how many did you snag? (If you don't mind me asking)

Nope, fair question. I ordered 10 and for the record, I have no intention of reselling these on eBay either.

For those who did not act fast enough, I highly recommend you check your local stores and check the website regularly over the next couple of weeks. They can always have more stock returned to the warehouse.

I just checked and Hot Topic still has the Land Adventurer on there site for $14.99. This is the same one that has been on there for close to a year that these geniuses on eBay are trying to get $25-$50 for. Keep an eye on this one. He is probably headed for discount city too!

I got my figures from Urban Outfitters yesterday. That's a pretty phenominal turnaround time considering their shipping is not very expensive. When I looked at one of these figures from a deconstruction perspective I realized just how much potential it has. The overall product is obviously lacking due to the wrong uniform but the individual compoents are nice - all they way down to the paper Adventure Team decal on his shirt. The boxes are in the exact same scale as the originals and work very nicely if you have any vintage box tops with bad or missing bottoms (like I did).

Well, that's an opinion I guess. I have my original regular hand Joes in their boxes, but only a few of the Kung-fu grip figures (original ones anyway). What I'm hearing you say is because it wasn't that one particular line, no one got burned. Can't agree with that. Your talking about the same figure with few differences. Even more so, if your comparing apples to apples, the Walmart buyer is getting the same 70's experience (authentic reproduced figure, outfit, and packaging) for substantially less than what the Club member paid for theirs. The club figures also suffer from the same flocking problems the Miejer's figures did, so they all came from the same production run at Hasbro. The greatest difference ultimately came from the price one consumer paid versus the other.

Don't get me wrong. I think the GI joe Club is an invaluable resource for collectors and fans of this line. I think they have some great people there and the price you paid likely was the best deal they could get. All I'm saying is it's unfortunate that Hasbro couldn't have done the Club better with pricing since they had to know they were issuing these. Hasbro is a good company but sometimes their marketing department gets a tad ambitious with their pricing. Honestly I think these AT figures are the overstock left over from the 40th anniversary line that didn't sell. That's why their so cheap. That 40th anniversary line was sold commercially at Walmarts, Target and ToyR US but, as you know, that didn't save the collector from having to pay some crazy prices for this line. I ended up waiting on alot of those and got them for $9.99 (marked down from $39.99).

Maybe you're right. I bought a Sea Adventurer at Wal*Mart last night and naturally I opened him. The bottom of his boots say "Hasbro 2003 40th" on them.

I'm going to try to collect the other 4 and maybe buy a set for my son for when he gets older.

I don't think it's been mentioned in this thread yet, but the retro AT figures are now showing up at Wal-Marts around the country. They look just like the originals and come in the coffin style boxes for just $9.96 a piece. There are 5 in total, so far.

I got these pics from another forum that I belong to:

After looking all over this weekend at 3 different Walmarts and $40 in gas doing such, I broke down and got a set off of eBay for $70.
I just can't keep looking around for the perfact timing to get these, I don't thave the time or $$$ to do so.

I wish these had the rifles instead of the sling guns though.

Couple of questions for you guys who have found these:

- Where at Walmart are they? I've checked with the other action figures with zero luck, and only found two today when I stumbled across them mis-shelved with the RC vehicles.

- Have all yours come with all their accessories? I think somone opened and swiped parts from the ones I found, which were both missing their AT stickers, and dogtags. One was missing his holster/pistol, and the other had a damaged suit that's had the zipper ripped out.

- Is the black Adventurer supposed to have fuzzy hair? The one I just got has painted hair, but the blonde I got has fuzz.

I can't believe that at under $10, some Joe collector felt he had to rob the accessories and then return them for his $$ back, but then again, if they're like 25% of the people I meet at toy shows, I shouldn't be surprised.

Thanks for any info,

Only one of the Walmarts in my area have gotten them so far. They were directly under the Sigma 6 pegs.

They all had there accessories. I made sure to look over the boxes to see if they had been opened or the tape looked tampered with.

I haven't gotten the Black Adventurer yet, but they all have fuzzy hair. It's either a factory error or someone switched out the heads.

It really sucks when people do that. Lot of jerks out there.

[edit]

I forgot to mention, My blond Air Adventurer doesn't have the AT decal on his outfit. All the rest do. I've seen pics of him with and without the decal. The box looked factory sealed. So I am guessing it is a factory error.

OK gang, here is the scoop I got directly from two different sources at Wal-Mart. August is when the stores start to rearrange their inventory in preperation for Christmas. Among other things the rearrange to provide more shelves for toys. Once the rearranging starts they keep all new inventory in the back until they get the existing stuff relocated. The new Joe figures are arriving right in the middle of this. Depending on where the store is in their rearranging, they could put them out any time between now and the end of the month.

I have been to four different Wal-Marts multiple times in the last week. One of them finally had the figures out yesterday morning. They only had a total of about fifteen figures when I got there. I got one complete set and one extra black figure. Of the eight or nine left there was not enough to make a full set. They had duplicates of the Land Adventurer, Air Adventurer, and Man of Action but it looks like the Sea Adventurer and black figure are going to be the harder ones to locate. Fors the grand total of $64 it cost me though I am extremely pleased.

I hope this information helps everyone out with their search and buying decisions.

I opened my Land Adventurer last night and he has same black Lugar as the Hot Topic figures! Everyone else has the .38 revolver, including the Man of Action, who never had one. I wonder how they got it in their heads that the Land Adventurer had a different gun?

I wonder why they got it in their heads to even put the guns with the shoulder harness with them in the first place???

The KFG figures are supposed to have rifles, not the shoulder harness and revlovers. The air adventurer did come with one or the other, but not the rest as far as I know.

Probably the same nimrod that decided to do the Air Adventurer in the Sea Adventurer outfit for MAjier and Urban Outfitters exclusive. :googly:

From what I understand the hard hand Adventure Team figures came with either rifles or holsters. The Kung Fu Grip Adventure Team figures were the same as the hard hand AT figures except for the hands and they came with just rifles.

So you could say we are kind of getting the best of both worlds.

Except for the Kung Fu Grip hands, I think the WallyWorld AT figures are using the exact same molds and outfits as the Timeless collection hard hand reissues. That would also explain the reuse of the holsters.

Sweep Secondhand
Aug 10, '07, 7:07 AM
As far as I am aware and can remember, the hard hand figures came exclusively with the shoulder holster and pistols except for the Man of Action who did not get anything. When the KFG was introduced, the first few runs of figures still had the shoulder holsters. I don't remember if the boxes were the original AT style with no mention of the KFG or the later style depicting the rifle in the artwork but there were KFG figures with the pistols. Then everything was changed over to the new box art that emphasized the KFG and had the rifles depicted on it and all the figures got rifles until the end of the line. Part of the reason I remember this is that I had one of the first KFG figures with the pistols and then a few months later the kid across the street got the Land Adventurer in the new box with the rifle. I thought I had been ripped off!

MIB41
Aug 10, '07, 4:55 PM
Yeah, I grew up with Joes and still have my first one in the box (talking commander) from 1972. The box artwork truly tells the story. The hard hand Joes had the shoulder holsters and the KFG were introduced with rifles as the box artwork illustrates. I even have the commercials for the KFG figure and the holster is not there. You can probably reference that commercial on Youtube for your own viewing pleasure. Without a doubt these are the overstocked remains from the 40th anniversary figures and accessories. Overall their good figures, but as I mentioned on my other thread, I hate the flocking for the two Man of Action figures I got. It's hard at the moment to trade them for a replacement since there really isn't any to find. I returned one for a refund. I originally tripped across them just out of dumb luck (that's why I bought them both). I've been to every freakin' Walmart countless times for the past week. It kills me how they can have almost all of the toys out of the isle and not stock anything for days! Great sales strategy...

A few historical discrepancies to note. All of the boxes have the same Joe head over the "J" in the name irregardless of the character you purchased. The original boxes always had the matching head of the character (Sea Adventurer, Air, etc.). One other note. On the Black Adventurer the bottom of the cover says "Life-like hair AND beard". He doesn't come with a beard. They didn't make this error on the Man of Action but they did here. Minor discrepancies but clearly quality control failed with this line on many different levels.

They seemed to use third issue box art( with the high powered rifle)
and gave them all sholder holsters,
First released Man of action came only with Pill box hat, rank patches sheet, and metal dog tag,and green uniform.
