I've gotten a couple of "Unpaid Item Dispute" emails that looked very authentic, and they almost got me to sign in because I had that immediate moment of concern that I'd forgotten to pay and my feedback was threatened. Firefox immediatly warned that the site it took me to was a fake eBay, which I could see myself because the address was funky. But they almost got me if I hadn't been paying attention...

This was a new one to me....anyone else get these?

The disputed item was a $4000 1916 Gibson guitar. It was lovely, but I think I'd have remembered....:smiley1:

After being "bitten" twice by these spoofs I always delete these e-mails. ALWAYS log in to your E-Bay account and check your message box first. Unless it's from E-Bay or PayPal through their message system it's a spoof..

Hope this helps, because once you reply your in for some grief..

Best way to counteract the Spoof emails is by going to "Full Headers" in your email account. A full header will show where the email originated from. Most of the spoofs are from other countries. Also, if the origination point isn't directly from ebay...it's not a real ebay email. Spelling in the emails are also dead giveaways....and dates and times of when it was sent to you.

I think we all get those "$4000 guitar" emails from time to time, but you wonder why they don't take the time to locate and email about an auction we actually won... Speaking of illicit email, I recently received a very authentic one from ebay's safeharbor department asking me to confirm whether I had changed my email address. It had all the usual Ebay icons and text at the bottom about reporting fake email. I was all set to hit their link (and likely login) when I happened to notice that the message had come from safeharbor@ebai.com, not ebay.com. Yikes!

How did you get "bit"? What actually happened?

The first time around 7 years ago when the spoofs first came out. I replied to update my personal info through an e-mail with all the E-Bay logo fake junk in the e-mail. My account was then stolen and all passwords changed. I tried logging in and was denied. I went on E-Bay chat and my account was indeed stolen and whom-ever started some 35 auctions under my bmattioli account. Long story short I had to prove to the E-Bay rep that I was the true owner which came down to one question. "What was your first e-mail address when you joined in 1996"? Oh man think fast!!!! Luckily I remembered and my account was regained control of and all the auctions were stopped and my account was reimbursed the funds.....

That WAS scary.....

Second time was last winter and not as severe but I still had to go on E-Bay chat and convince the rep the account was stolen. Believe it or not he accually called me on my cell to verify.. SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL OUT THERE FOLKS!!!!

yeah same crap happened to my mom as she didn't know any better, when she looked ate her account they had listed like 125 auctions in 1 day, including computers that were selling for like $1000 each
