What specific homages did you spot in Monsters Vs Aliens?

Obviously the titular Monsters are based loosely on Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, The Fly, The Blob, Creature from the Black Lagoon and to a lessor extent Mothra.

There was a funny spoof on Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I liked the movie okay. Took the kids to see it opening weekend. It held a 4 yr old and a 3 yr old captive the whole time. Not a higher recommendation in the world in my book.

I had a blast at this movie. The theatre was filled with kids who laughed at everything. The 3D was the best I've seen in a movie... akin to the Disney theme-park 3D attractions.

I remember as I watched it noticing several old movie references, but I'm having trouble remembering them now.

They referenced a character named "Nimoy" at one point, I remember.

I liked it, There was a lot of homages to sci-fi stuff in there that kept me amused, I liked the star wars and the ID$ referance best:silly: and the generals name had me roaring in my seat, my friends kids just stared at me blankly

I caught several things, some pretty subtle. For instance you see a plate with mash potato mound and a spoon on top like Close Encounters (and of course the President hits those famous notes on the synthesizer). Also when General W.R. Monger (u-hum) is telling the Prez and the others about Ginormica, he says she has "tremendous powers surging through her body..." and he has his hands in front of his chest as if he was talking about two other assets she has.

It was a fun movie. Not Pixar good, but better than the last Madagascar (which was okay) and definitely better than Shrek 2 and 3 (3 was pretty blah). The boy really liked it.

I took my class to see this today, and we had a good time. I really enjoyed all the sci-fi references. I was cracking up for a lot of it. :smiley1:

:kick: Hey, be nice! :wink_y:

Actually since you brought it up, the ONLY time I go to the movies is when I take my class. And yes, most of the movies are CGI films. And I really do miss a good ole fashioned CARTOON. :silly:

Just watched this one tonight with my son.He was laughing the whole way through it.
I must admit it was funny.I liked the reference to the invisible man now that was funny.
There were lots of little things throughout the movie which I'm sure will bode well for repeat watching as you will notice something you didn't notice the first time.
