I loved this stuff, but sadly, I never had the original. I just had the gum machine version. But now I make a similar stuff w/ my kids and put Creepy Crawlers in it.

My cousin Billy had the original green Slime. I had the purple Slime with worms and the yellow Slime with eyeballs. I remember seeing the Slime Monster boardgame in stores around that time, but never owned it.

I had that game, it was pretty cool, I wish I still had it. It included a big green plastic monster that you filled with Slime and he drooled it all over the playing pieces (which were little people). The game play wasn't amazing, but it made a hell of a mess, which was it's whole raison d'etre.
I also had a can of the original Slime and the Slime Worms, which seemed to react with the rubber worms, so it was a bit too sticky and not as "smooth" as the normal green slime.

I loved Slime. I didn't care for it after they started putting stuff in it though. I'm still a slime fan although all I ever find is the generic stuff.
I just bought some knock off slime that's black with dinosaur skeletons in it. It's called The Tar Pits or something like that. I got some other slime that's yellow, but it changes color in the sun. I also have some that's multi colored and it is blacklight reactive. The best stuff I have is called Mars Mud. It's thicker but it has a great texture and it's very colorful and hard to describe.
Ah Slime. Thanks for the memories, Tim.
I had several cans of this stuff as a kid, and yes, we did get it in the carpet.
I'd probably look at that on a shelf today and buy it because the can might be Mego Scale.

I had this stuff. We had to play with it in the garage. Does anyone else remember how easily it would freeze? It would not freeze throughly but I seem to remember if you let it even get slightly cold it would develop little ice crystals mixed in with the slime. Am I crazy??

Oh Man , Did I enjoy my slime......From My He-Man, To My Ghostbusters. I also do remember gumball machine slime, .25 cents a pop added up to a replacement for mt Horde slime pit. (Although I found that slime had a stiffer texture to it. )

I can still remember the smell of the gumball machine slime that I had as a kid. Reading this post makes me want to go out and buy some slime! So, it sounds like they're still making it. Is that correct?

There was another thing that was similar to slime - not as popular though. This stuff had a consistency that was somewhere between slime and play dough. You could throw it on the wall, it would splat and stick but it would come right off. It came in all sorts of neon colors. Any idea on this one? Late 1970's.

I used to have that, I remember throwing it up the walls in the 70s. I think it was called Mudd. I'd love to see a pic if anyone has one?

Like some of you folks, my Mother wouldnt let me have this stuff either. Made me want it all the more!
What I would like to know from those of you who collect this stuff, does the slime maintain its...slimyness..over the years? I would think the stuff would either turn solid, turn to dust, or achieved sentience and returned to its home planet by now?

Does Slime hold up? I mean, after 30 years, does it harden or dry up? Or is it able to maitain its semi-plasmatic state forever?

That's a very good question. Too Be honest I am not sure. I know that the real Ghostbusters slime , ( which was a little different than the He-Man and Gumball machine slime ) used to dry up quickly even with the lid sealed nicely on the container. I assume they all would dry up . I see they still make slime so that's cool.

The gumball machine slime that I had would dry up around any exposed edges. I would think that the whole glob would dry up after a while...unless you had a HUGE amount of the stuff; then maybe some of it in the middle would still be good.

I really wish Mattel would reissue Slime in the original green garbage can (the purple with worms would be cool too). I'm sure lots of us would buy it.
