Hi everyone,
I am new and have just started recollecting megos. This is a wonderful place and I am soooo glad to have found it!
I have purchased a torch figure loose with a plug that is nearly ripped off. It has only about 1/4 of an inch keeping it on. Is there any way to fix this?
I tried an adhesive but it didn't help. I got all the adhesive off but can't stand the fact that old torchy is going headless.
Help, oh holders of knowledge and such!
Chris

I had a similar problem with a head once and what i did was fill the head and neck plug with an epoxy putty to give it some strength.

As long as you don't keep taking the head on and off it should be fine.

How is the color on your Torch head? If if's nice and red, then it's worth the effort. If it's at all faded or grey, they are a dime a dozen in that condition, and you can probably replace it for next to nothing if you make a marketplace post for one.

If you're just gonna put Torch on display I wouldn't touch it all. Otherwise I'd go with Dave's advice. And welcome aboard

If the head is worth keeping, I've used Instant Krazy Glue to repair it. I use the brush on kind, it's easier and cleaner. Be careful though... make sure that you line up the rips the on the first shot. The glue bonds the plastics together quickly and it is almost impossible to rip them apart without damaging the head even more.

It works really well though...

Would it be possible to melt the pieces back together using a really hot knife or something?

Thanks for all the tips. The head is in great shape other than the tear. I hated to not use it because it looks so nice. I think I'll try the superglue but will put a shout out for another. My 4 year old loves megos as much as his old man and I get to do the 2nd childhood thing with him. He is gentle and it's great fun to bond with him through megos!

Hmmmm....

Superglue WILL hold; but won't survive rough handling. (Such as putting the head back on the body...) You might try getting a dowel just a bit smaller than the headhole on a Mego torso. (THey DO make 'em that size. I've used a few.) Stick it into the head, cut it about an inch or so beyond the head and stick it on. The head will come off, but it'll look okay. (It shouldn't fall off though; you'd have to purposefully remove it.)

Thanks for the photo tutorial.
I had seen this in the museum somewhere but couln't use the idea because the head pictured is not like mine.
Torchie doesn't have that extra bit at the bottom. If I did a rip and flip, it would give it no extra length at all.
It is a great idea, though and I appreciate all the help and tips.
I am heading to the marketplace and ask if anyone has an extra torch head for sale.
I wonder if they make drywall lock screws that size. Push in at bottom and screw to fit. That and some superglue mignt do it.
Thoughts?

The neck plug doesn't have to come from the head you're fixing.

If you have a spare head that isn't worth much (grey heads are ideal), cut it up and use its neck. Instead of turning it upside-down, cut the whole top of the head off from the bottom of the nose up. Then cut the front of the face off and the hair if it sticks out. What's left should fit inside the neckless Torch head and hold it snugly. You can even glue it in, if you want.

Plug...doesn't...have...to...be...from...torchie's head...

Doh!

I catch on eventually. Slowly, but eventually.
Thanks for the tip.
Torchie will live again, thanks to a messed-up batman head.

sniff:cry:

I love you guys.
