Hi All,
I just joined the forum and could use some help. I'm wanted to make some classic football players from the 70s. I have an idea on the uniform but trying to get ideas on how to make the helmet with facemask. Is there something out there currently that I could use as the shell for the helmet that's not too expensive ( I want to make a bunch of players). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Nothing like making your debut on a board by asking an impossible question.:cool_y:
Seriously, I think there are few options. I believe Action Jackson had a football suit set or maybe another similarly scaled line had one(Big Jim?). If you could score one of those on Ebay, maybe someone here could cast and mold the helmet and face mask separately and make several copies. I'm willing to bet you aren't the only one thinking along this line.
Aside from that, I really don't have any good ideas. BTW, welcome to the Museum. It's the coolest place I've found on the web.
What players are you considering?

I remember one of the US members mentioning NFL helmets that were Mego scale that were sold in a gumball machine?
^^ There's your answer, so I'll just say "Welcome aboard"

Thanks for all the responses. I saw the gumball helmets and wasn't sure if they were 1/6 scale. Does anyone have the gumball helmets and know if they do fit megos?
Thanks!

They're not 1/6th which is 12 inch Joe size but they should fit mego's. Might be a tad big. Have you looked for any of the Starting Lineup cloth figures. With those accessories 12 inch scale might be an easier route. How about building a wire mask onto the CTVT repro astronaut helmets? They come in white and the visor can be removed leaving a round helmet very similar to a football helmet. You can usually find those gumball helmets on ebay. There was a display you could buy years ago that was for tracking the standings of the teams and it used those helmets. if you could hit one of those you could nail all the older teams at once. it was pre expansion stuff though so if you wanted any newer teams you would need to find them loose. I don't recall seeing that display style recently. I do remember seeing those single helmets in a machine at a local family dollar a few years back so I bet even the expansion teams are available.

I have 3-4 of any team you might need. I was an addict with these new helmets. I drained one at walmart one day. Cost me almost 4 quarter rolls. but i have your helmets if you want. PM me and we shall iron something out.

How about a AJ football helmet? I've only seen pictures of them, so I'm not sure. It may be a good starting point.

Hey and Welcome on board.
that said. The gumball vending machine football helmuts mentioned do fit GI Joe. I use them as motorcycle helmuts minus the face guard. I would got to TV Classic toys buy some space helmuts. Remove the visor covers and maybe glue on some face covers from the gumball helmuts. That might work.
