Toei's wacky but fun Spider-man TV show shown in Japan in the 1970's can now be seen on Marvel's website, complete with English subs. The first episode debuted a few days ago and a new episode will be shown every Thursday. Once I fast forwarded through the slow stuff at the beginning, my three year old son really enjoyed the hijinks with Spidey and his giant robot Leopardon. He already can't wait for the next episode. :smiley1: It's great stuff, far more entertaining than the US live action show from the 70's. :)

The only legitimate release is a Japanese DVD box set, but it has no English subs and is very expensive (par for the course for Japanese releases like this). Fan subbed "grey market" DVDs can be found online without much effort though. :)

Do you have a vintage Popinica GP7? That's pretty cool. I have a repro version that came with the Soul of Chogokin Leopardon set, it's a cool car.

Ya, I was checking and I have the intro Movie and 17 Episodes not 20. I got mine on ebay, some time ago. However the DVD-R were made by
Showa Video
P.O. Box 41
New Lisbon, NJ
08064
They also sent me a flyer with what the had for sell. I also got from they a Filipino Batman Spoof Movie called Batguy and the Robbers. It was made in early 1990s to spoof the Tim Burton Batam Movies but they made all the Heroes and Villians Look like the 1966 Adam West Version. It is fun to watch However the dialog is 35% English and 65% Filipino.

honestly, can't remember. However the seller was the owner/operator of Showa Video themselfs.
the Episode are in Japanese, no English dub or subtitles. I like how the main villian look like Lord Dredd from Captain Powers and the Soldiers of the Future.

I just noticed the new Tonner Spiderman dolls look quite a bit like the Japanese TV Spidey.

I've always wanted the 10" popy version of Spidey based on this show.

I do have a little diecast figure of his giant robot that I found at Toys R Us in the 1980s.

Yeah, that Popy Spidey is very cool. I didn't know that any type of Leopardon toy made it to North American stores (outside of some Chinatown toy distributors), nice find.

It was a knockoff series of Shogun Warrior figures (generic "GIANT ROBOT" type card) that sat on their shelves for almost five/six years. There was Mazinga and all the rest, one day I just noticed that Spider-Mans robot was one of them. Somehow I still have him...

I've been waiting for a U.S. release. This show spawned some incredibly cool merchandise. I have around 9 pieces in my collection related to the Toei TV. show. This one actually just arrived today. This is actually a Korean model...

That's pretty cool, how tall is it? I'm guessing by the inaccurate colours that this is an unauthorized version. At any rate, it's still a nice piece. There is some very nice vintage merchandise from the TV show. I'd love a Leopardon Jumbo Machinder, but that would cost big bucks (well into four figures, especially a boxed one).

Japanese SpiderMan ROCKS!!!!!

I agree. Theres just something about it that makes it cool. It's pretty cheesy and defiantely not accurate, but that doesn't matter. It's just so much fun to watch. I hope that it eventually makes its way to DVD :beaming1:

I just the fact that the main baddie looks like Lord Dredd from Captain Powers thou the Japanese Spidey predates that.
