A cutom I'm working on needs an aged/weathered/dinged up look to it and was wondering what the best method would be to achieve this....

I'll be working with drab colors like grey/silver, black, and white....

washe's with thinned out base colors, especially the black. if this is a mechanical type thing, you could mix a bit of silver with the black to get a more grimy/oily look to the wash. With a wash, you want to thin the paint down so it flows along the details of the object.

Also, drybrushing with a lightened up base color helps age the look, too. You do this by dabbing the brush in a unthinned color and then brushing it on a paper towel until you can barely see the paint show up on the towel. then brucsh it over the object with light strokes, you will see the edges begin to lighten up. You will have to practice a bit to get the idea.
