View Full Version : Our latest Barbie Super Heroine: Liberty Belle!

My wife likes to customize Barbies into DC Super Heroines to compliment her collection, and I usually help out a bit. Our latest is Liberty Belle. Belle has had several variations on her costume over the years, so we synthesized them into one look. We though the jodapurs (sp) looked better tan, so we left them that way, rather than make them comic yellow.

You can see some of our previous efforts in the background. I think I've posted more pictures of these than my own Mego customs! I'll have to remedy that in the future.

Wow, that is really cool, great job.
They all look great
Aw crap. Not Barbie customs.

As much as I don't personally care for Barbie, I think it's cool as hell that your wife is customizing Superhero's. Bravo!

Nice stuff, Barbie has never looked so good.
I had to make a Liberty Belle emblem for someone once, and from what I remember, your wife captured the look very well.

Thanks guys! My favorite is Phantom Lady as well. And Cindy did that one pretty much on her own. I only painted the boots and made some suggestions.
Not seen are modern Black Canary, 2 Wonder Girls (1 modern and one young Donna Troy), and 3 Supergirls (young Supergirl, 70s Supergirl, and Helen Slater-like).
Sorry to defile the custom sections with Barbies.:please_y:

I will definitely inflate Cindy's ego by passing on the kind words. The red suit comes from everyone's favorite nutso-pop star Britney Spears. Cindy just cut the sleeves off and cut the mid-drift out to get the Mike McKone Wonder Girl look.

Chris, who did Cindy use for the Silver Age Wonder Girl? How tall is she in comparison to Barbie? She looks like she'd work for something I've been trying to do.

Amy, I think that is a knock-off doll meant to compliment Barbie's middle sister Stacie. Stacie is roughly Mego-sized but has a big head as she is supposed to be 10-12 years old or so. The young Supergirl we did used an acutal Mattel Stacie. I don't think they release many Stacies now, but they were pretty big in the 90s, so you should be able to find some on the bay or at flea mkts/thrift stores.
Id love to see her again!
I've been looking for that Liberty Belle pic. I guess I deleted it from everywhere. I'll try and get a new one up soon. We haven't had much time for customs lately since baby #2 came along!

^^Yeah, Stacie's body is just about Mego size. I'm using her for a custom right now. But to make her look more like a Mego, I had to shrink the head and trim that weird plastic plug that's in the neck.

This was from a 11.5-12" vinyl figure found at Goodywill. I was going to pop it on a Mego gal bod. But it looked so ridiculously large (even bigger than Daisy Dukes noggin.)

The neck base is a little stockier than your average Bab"s neck so you might have to beef up Barbies neck or preform so drastic surgery to this head. also there's some paint rubs to the bat ears. drop me a PM and I'll drop it in the mail. But I really want to see a post of the final product

I can't see the doll. It keeps showing a big red x. Is there a way you can reload it or PM me the picture? Now you have me curious!!
Before I got my nine year old daughter addicted to megos. She originally was into the Barbie super hero gals. She was trying to get me to make a bunch of customs when I started showing her much more fun and easy it was to make mego customs. She abandoned her barbie super girls and ninety some mego customs later she hasn't looked back! :)

It was attached to a limited posible vynil body. Kind of reminded my of those Star Trek statue wannabes from a few years ago. I'm guessing it was a fanboy item produced to sell arround the release of the Batman movie that featured Batgirl
