    Movie Buff/San Fransisco help

In the movie "Field of Dreams", was Terence Mann (James Earl Jones) based on Herb Caen? I think the movie said Mann won a Pulitzer and penned the word "Beatnik" or hippie, or something along those lines.

The reason I ask, I found a 1st edition signed copy of "Baghdad by the Bay" by Herb Caen, who I read won a Pulitzer and penned the word beatnik.

No, the character was based on JD Salinger.

Caen apparently won a special pulitzer right before he died.

Nice find... Caen coined the word Beatnik and also helped popularize the term Hippie.
