Many-MANY post offices only hire part-timers (1-4 days a week) .... which mean no benefits and not even a full week paycheck.
Even many of their clerks are part-timers as well.
At my local post office, the only full time employee is the Postmaster.
On top of that .....
Everyone buys everything over the internet these days and most use USPS.
Also, they keep raising their prices for EVERYTHING
I find it hard to believe the post office is dying for money.
The proposal will get shot down again.
They aren't fooling anyone.
Yeah, we don't have Saturday deliveries in Canada, and yet society has managed not to collapse. I'm sure you guys could manage just fine if Sat deliveries stop.
Our post office is already only open Saturdays from 8:30 to 11:30, and I find that I never seem to get anything of importance delivered on that day, mostly junk mail and occupant stuff.
I'm guessing losing Saturday delivery would be an inconvience at best. I read that Tuesday was suggested as being a "light day". To me that would be stupid, it is a business day and there are many businesses that need delivery then. I'd be very upset if a bill payment I sent arrived late because the Post Office didn't deliver it until Wednesday.
I would hate it. I think It would just cause more problems in the long run. If they start this practice and it delays bill payment. More people will pay there bills online instead of using the mail. Less people using there service and then they'll really be hurting for money. This will just make it more expensive to send mail. I'm just waiting for there next price hike. I'm sure it's right around the corner

Prices going up in May again, stamps another 2 cents. Maybe they should just make a series of stamps and just produce those, or better yet stop wasting money on all the junky collectible stuff for stamp release like magnets, posters, stationary, etc. That stuff is just hanging there in the display cases, and it's all too pricey to buy. I liked the framed/matted DC Heroes picture/FDC sets they had, but $20 bucks a piece was too much- there were 2 or 3 for each character. Same with Star Wars...how much money wasted making R2-D2 mailboxes and advertising junk.
I didn't know they were really gonna hike the price up. Man that sucks. I think I'm gonna have to convert everything to Online bill Pay. I hate getting stuck with a book of stamps that aren't even the right price. It's a hassle getting the 1 cent stamps

Maybe they'll do like they did here in Canada; issue a stamp that's always good for the post of a letter, regardless of what you paid for it or when you use it.

Don C.
They already do. They're called Forever Stamps.
The Saturday thing is probably just another ploy to raise rates. "WAH!, We're losing money. We need to raise the rates...AGAIN."
Tuesday is already a "light day" here. All I ever get on Tuesdays are flyers and junk mail.
I wish I could get mail at my HOUSE. We have these stupid "community boxes" around my neighborhood. I have to walk about 3 houses down to get my mail.
I'm sure this is to "save money" yet they continuously have to raise rates?????
