    Need Computer Help

I let my 5 year old play on my computer (disney.com). Ever since then, it is REAL slow, pages load very slow and don't load all the way.

I have tried to disk defrag & analyze but I get an error saying the defrag will not start.

I try a system restore to last week and it does nothing.

Some how my daughter downloaded a fake antivirus software, basically a spyware. When ever I tried to go online, it would direct me to a site saying my computer is infected, etc.

I was able to get rid of it and reset my msconfig start up, but now it is slow as dial up.

    Hmmm,
If worse comes to worse you can probably set your computer to a "system restore".
You'll probably lose a lot of new stuff, but it's better then chucking the computer.

Also, stay away from Disney sites.
They are notorious for bad spayware.

I had a really bad one like that a few years ago.
A buddy of mine told me to download spybot.
Spybot got rid of it when Norton and MaCeffe couldn't

It will not "system restore" as well

        Did you try Spybot ?
It's free and it's pretty damn good.

I know a case where Toon Disney literally crippled a laptop that had Windows Vista on it. If it wasn't for the system restore self repair thing in the bootup, the computer would have been toast.

Keep computers away from that website. I still haven't figured out what happened but I know it came from that place.

OK, I downloaded Stopzilla, found 138 viruses and spyware. The one from Disney was the worst, it was actually a anti-spyware program, basically trying to scare people into buying software. It basically took over my browser. I use Firefox and when I did any kind of search for spyware, I would be directed to their website. I had to dig out my old Explorer to get to the Spybot site.

There's a name for this sort of thing.... I can't remember it.... but it basicly plants fake viruses on your system so that it can "find" them when you buy their remover. Other removers will detect these plants, but not neccessarily get rid of them 'cos they're technicly not viruses. Sneaky.

Why would a giant "wholesome" company like Disney associate themselves with companies like this ?

They certainly don't need the money --- or the bad press

There are sites out there masquerading as Disney (as well as other legit sites). I'm surfing Disney right now with no problems and AVG says there are no active threats.

I, myself, picked up the phony anti-virus virus from what looked like You Tube.

Either that or I picked it up somewhere else and it activated when I went to the You Tube link.
