Yup, I've seen guys spot like that before. I dislocated a shoulder because a guy spotted me when I was doing incline dumbbells, even though I didn't need him. Last set, trying to lock out the last rep and instead of pushing in on the elbows, he pushed the weight out over my body. I had no idea he was even going to do it. It totally took me by surprise and since I didn't know where exactly he was standing, I didn't want to just drop the dumbbells. I felt a pop in my left shoulder and knew I was done. Had a trainer at the gym help me pop it back in place and then I drove off to the hospital. It hasn't been right since.
When I was in college, working out every day for a couple hours, we used to do 6-7 sets of 10 at 225. I put up 385 once, but never really had the desire to see how high I could go. It just seemed like a really good way to hurt yourself. Little did I know, I just needed a ****** and some dumbbells to hurt myself.
