I don't collect the price variants, but I do have some variants of the same book such as UPC differences, or a couple books with Gold Key/Whitman logos.
It's been awhile since I saw any of the price variants, I know they can get pretty pricey.

Yeah. The 30 cent variants aren't that bad.
But the 35 cent ones can get rediculous.
I only collect them for my Conan collection.
And am working to eventually have a complete run of newstand and direct sale versions as well (with direct sale versions not starting until issue 70)
I've also been picking up versions from other countries.

I still remember passing on a foreign edition of Conan when I was in a Cuban grocery store in Washington DC when I was a kid....

It would bother me that I couldn't read the stories if I had a foreign language edition and I'm way too lazy to translate the words. :silly:
I don't even like when they put those Kryptonian symbols in some Superman stories unless they put the translation there too.
On the topic at hand: I have picked up the DC Whitman variants but that's about it.

I have a couple of the marvel price variants in my collection. I do know right off hand which ones expect for the Star Wars #1; $.30 & $.35 versions. I also have some Golden Keys Price Variants; both Golden Keys not one Golden Key and one whitman. I also have a few comics that were released with two covers in stead of one.
I was wonder, how many marvel price variants are there of 1st prints.

Foreign editions are kind of neat, even if you can't read the language. I have a German Ultimate Spider-Man #1, and some Japanese Spawns, and an old 60s Thor in French. My brother went to France a couple years ago and brought me some Simpsons comics in French as well.
I picked up a couple 60S British westerns anthologies in B/W, and the weird thing is they contain stories from DC, Marvel, and Charlton comics, all in the same book.

Here is a list of the 30 cent variants

And the 35 cent variants

As far as I know, only a handful of collectors have completed both sets so far.

I don't know the specifics, but I understand there are a whole bunch of different Star Wars #1 issues.

I don't know the specifics, but I understand there are a whole bunch of different Star Wars #1 issues. There's the 35 cent 1st print cover var that's the big ticket item then there's the 35 cent reprints which had the diamond and were sold in 3 packs and are very common

Actually, the diamond price covers are not reprints.
They are refered to as Whitman variants as the company that produced those 3 packs was named Whitman.
Basically they were the precursor to the direct market. Which was just starting to form back then. The diamond price versions were sold directly to other businesses, either companies like Whitman, or large comic dealers.
But those were printed in the same run as the all the rest of the comics, just with a single color plate change. Much like the price variants, and the pence versions.
There were also some second printings done. but just because it has a diamond price area, doesn't mean it is a second printing.
I just did a quick search and found here
Rebelscum.com: 30 Years Ago... (http://www.rebelscum.com/30thAnn_EU.asp)
That there were 7 versions.
30 cent newstand
30 cent direct market (diamond)
30 cent reprint
35 cent newstand
35 cent direct market with UPC (the really rare one that is worth the most cash)
35 cent direct market without UPC
35 cent reprint
Then, if you factor in that most, if not all, also have a version with the Mark Jewler instert, it starts getting intimidating.
