At 17, I worked at Mcdonalds. I hated that job. While in college I worked at a Hardees and a Taco Johns, both a lot more enjoyable that Mcdonalds. Anyone else work for a fast food restaurant when they were younger?

I worked under a chef at a cafe for a couple of years as a kid, he was insane but brilliant. Threw knives, plates, punched the wall, he died recently, I'm not sure he was much over 50. Taught me how to cook but I used to envy my friends at McDonalds.
After that I was night guy at Pizza Delight for a year, the best job I ever had. Basically I (rarely) made pizza, cleaned up, tried to keep the delivery guy sober and spent much of my time devising ways to steal a beer.

First job was KFC... I smelled like chicken all the time. People would get their fingers cut off at the chicken saw. House of horror. Also worked at Wendy's in college. Somewhat better.

Thats called a "Whaler", and it use to be an "off the menu" item you could get there. I worked at McD's for 3 months in high school. It is the worst job I ever had, and hardest. I was making $3.35 a hour, and they worked us like dogs.

Dairy Queen, my last couple years of High School and my first year of college.
After a brief stint at a cafe following that, it was all book stores until graduation and being chained to an office.

No.
But I did work at a liquor store during my high school years...it was a pretty good job for three years...I did everything, from cashier, stocking, to moping the floor. I was always teamed up with the manager (who was a friend of my dad's, that's how I got the gig, lol)...who used to let me drink a beer inside the ice box room once in a while, he, he, he...ah...those were the days.

I worked just one step up from fast food which was a chain called Olga's Kitchen.
The food was actually pretty good. I was a waiter (the equivalent of a Pizza Hut waiter).
Fortunately, a couple of my friends also obtained jobs there and we always pulled practical jokes on each other. I'm actually surprised we didn't get fired but the manager's were pretty nice, we worked hard, but had fun too.
Most of the time we used just used to do things to one another like if a customer ordered a spinach pie (not ordered too often), one of us would take a bite out of it in the back kitchen while it was sitting under the heat lamps. When the other one would go to deliver it; we realized the bite mark and have to hurry back to the kitchen to have another one made.
They also had a frozen yogurt machine that we used to have contests to see who could hold their mouths under the nozzle and consume the most frozen yogurt.
Good Times...Good Times.

I worked at McDonalds for a year when I was 16. They fired me for growing my hair too long. I kept trying to tuck it into the visor, but after a year it was a little hard to do. I wasn't gonna cut it for them so they canned me. It reminds me of the saying-
If your not a rebel at 16 you've got not soul, if you've got long hair at 30, it's time to grow up hippy! or something like that.

I worked at a burger place called Hot'N'Now. It was owned by PepsiCo and most of them were right next to a Taco Bell. I worked there for most of high school and into college. Whenever I was home for breaks I'd pick up a few hours here and there. After a while, they made me the crew trainer because I had been there longer than anyone else, and unlike other coworkers, I showed up on time, didn't steal anything, and cleaned up after myself. The year I turned 18 they were going to train me as a manager for when I was home all summer, but they went bankrupt. As far as fast food jobs go, it was a lot of fun.

When I lived w/ my dad in So. Cal., I worked in a local McD's right outta hi school. This was 1984, and Olympic year, and the torch ran right past McD's on my first day of work. For some reason, my drawer kept being short at the end of every day, until one of the managers Mary went on vacation. When she came back my drawer was short again and I was fired. I don't think it was a coincidence, though I could never prove it. I was the only black person working there, and Mary didn't like that one bit. Years later, she was w/ one of the parents picking up her kid, and acted like she didn't even know me, but I knew she did. Somehow, I believe she got her "come uppance", for what she did to me. What goes around comes around. :yeah:

My first job wayyyyy back in '77 was at a local fast-food place called WINKY'S. I had a friend whose mom knew the owner and got us jobs there. There was an old lady in charge, I can't even remember her name, but she hated the guys working there and let all the girls slack off. At this place, the girls worked the counter and the boys made the food and did the cleaning. The girls would be sitting in the booths drinking cokes and me & my buddy are swabbing the decks with this old bat harping on missed spots. My friend quit about a month into it, but my parents told me I had to stick it out.
Anyway, back then everything got deep-fried in the same vats, and if that grease got changed three times a year I'd be surprised. They sold fried chicken, fish, apple pies, fries, all in the same grease. The owner was a canary- you know: CHEEP, CHEEP, CHEEP. This was in the disco era and he was maybe early 40s in age, he wore those polyester shirts with no buttons open to the navel with the gold zodiac medallions!
So one Saturday I'm working there, busting my butt while the girls chat, and somebody comes in and orders a 3pc chicken dinner. I dump the frozen pieces into the fryer and reach over to the windowsill where the dinner boxes are stacked (by the way, the girls also folded boxes and put a piece of wax paper in them then stacked them neatly by the window- I emptied 400 lb. garbage bags and carried them out to the dumpster...but I digress...)...anyway, when I grabbed the box there was an enormous bug crawling in it. I threw it into the trash can and reached for another. The owner happened to see this and starts yelling at me for wasting the box as they cost a nickle a piece. He took it out of the trash, put the chicken in it and sent it up to the customer, who went off unaware (Honest guy, if you ate that and died- I'm sorry, it wasn't my fault!).
I never went back after that, my mom told me it was ok to quit.

I worked at the local McDonald's for a couple of years many moons ago. I really hated that damned job. Between spending half my time being yelled at by grown people over Happy Meal toys, and the other half putting up with the general manager's mood swings and temper tantrums, I just couldn't take it anymore.

Worked at Pizza Hut from '87 to '93, started as a cook and ended as assistant manager before I quit and went back to college. And not a moment too soon...I would've been fired once they found out I was engaged to a waitress (who DID become my wife). :smiley1: That was a big "no-no" at the time...relatives in management couldn't work together. But I already knew that because my brother had to transfer to another store once I became an assistant. :smiley1:
