Anyone else get Chekov yet?

I found him at a Lakeland comic store today. Nice figure, the tunic seems to be a little off color wise compared to my vintage Kirk and the trousers are a bit to short where I can see above the molded on boots. The head seems to fit in well with the vintage figures and the skin tone matches the older figures perfectly.

One more thing, the hands are more flexable than some of the older EMCE's. More like the Castaway hands.

Looks ok when compared to the vintage ones. The suit seems a lot baggier than a vintage one, since this is my first EMCE Starfleet uniform I don't know ifthat is the norm.

This is way cool. This is an original Dunsel sculpted Chekov, something I'd been hoping to see from James since I started customizing. That Paul made it a new factory figure just rocks!

Chekov's here in Belgium, too.
If he's in my backward country (we only have warp two technology), he should be everywhere soon.
Collar's fine!
He's a bit too tanned like Scotty, so they probably came back from shore leave together.
The bubble has a cool insert piece, holding his feet nicely in place, instead of like my Kirk, who looks totally drunk in his packaging.

Overall, a great addition!

Yeah, that collar is exactly right.
If I can nitpick on two things:
the top of the bubble is cracked at both sides
and the phaser is "backwards" in his holster.

But don't let that rain on your parade: I'm over the moon to finally have this figure. Kind of waited over 30 years for the Russian....

Found him doing some last minute Christmas shopping at Emerald City, I was actually there to get a Zira for my daughter but I had to have this figure.

I would have had mine by now, but this time I special ordered my cases with each set of 2 individually boxed in a white mailer box (just for extra protection) and so mine were ready in HK a week later than DST's main stock due to this "special order"... that said,the container my stock is in, is supposedly already in L.A., so I should have next week or so, if holidays don't slow it up too much...

but the majority of domesitc orders will fill as Joe said...

I only want the new figures that aren't repros of old ones (or are so expensive for real ones that repros will have to do: Romulan, andorian, etc) so that's why I mentioned a Sulu/Chekov combo.

Neither have been advertised in Previews, but maybe soon...Captain Action has been a super hit for us and the limited distribution we did do seems promising... who knows it may be in comic stores soon through Diamond. The Phantom is little different, since we use our pre-sales and early birds to "test" the waters so to speak. Captain Action and Dr. Eville just did better, this might be due to a combination of factors... the economy being a large one, the highly collectible nature of the original figures and the relative "fotgotten" nature of the Phantom as a character. We will exaust all avenues with the Phantom, including distribution here and through foreign companies, but it's still kind of wait and see... Early Birds are the only "slam dunk". "fo sho", gonna get these figures as of today... this could very easily change, but we just don't know right now.

It's free, but it's not easy nor is it fast... like I said before, we used the Eb's to gage demand, and we are going to explore more options to see if we can increase the numbers to make it more feasible... don't get me wrong, we are dedicated to exhausting every avenue make it work(we have to). I'm guessing the only concern for you with a Diamond solicit would be that you would have to foot the production of the figures till you got your money from the buyers? It'd be a shame for you to let the King Features liscense go to waste and not get Phantom mass produced.

...Again thanks for the concern, about the figures and our finances :smiley3:... I feel very confident it'll work out one way or the other. If the demand comes in high? that's great we'll make them, and if not? well were right back here where we started.

King Features seems happy with how things are going, and we don't consider delivering high quality EB figures to hardcore fans who want them a waste by any stretch...

I picked Chekov up at Newbury Comics last Thursday. Very nice head sculpt, I think EMCE has done an excellent job with everything released so far and can't wait to see more figures as they are released.

My two Checkov/Cheron sets arrived from Amok Time yesterday. Love the new Chekov! The head sculpt is beautiful and the figure fits in perfectly with the ST Mego series. By the way, does anyone here know the minor connection between Walter Koenig and the Mego Star Trek figures back in the 70s? I can't find it referenced on the Internet, but remember it clearly. Anyone?

Well, it might have had something to do with Koenig being a collector. Around 1978 he wrote a script for an episode of the TV series "What Really Happened to the Class of '65" and it had a scene inside a child's room -- on one of his shelves were some Mego ST figures!

I went to local Comic shop yesterday, I spotted EMCE Cheron & Chekov and I bought 'em to my new home.

Both of 'em looks great, I'l glad to have 'em!!!

The owner of Comic shop dropped price for me, I'm lucky to saved $2 dollars and free shipping but I drove down there and pick 'em up, not too far from my home!

I picked mine up from a local shop a few days ago and he's pretty fantastic.

Mind you, the head sculpt doesn't suffer from the delightful watermelon-shaping condition that the old crew figures have, so being "correctly scaled" actually makes him look a little off when next to the others. The uniform is also a bit off, but overall he's nifty. (actually if the insignia and cut of uniform were smaller and the head bigger he'd be closer to vintage look)

I give him three hortas on the horta-keen scale.

It's almost getting repetative to say congrats to Paul/Joe for a job well done but I just got and opened my case of Chekov and Cherons and have to say. Well, Well Done. The Khan was a great addition as an exclusive, but Chekov is to me, the first figure that truly should have been done but wasn't. It's almost like a gap in the Mego universe has been filled. Can't wait for Sulu, even though I have a repro in my collection a rotocast head will be a welcome addition.

With Mego cutting costs, releasing Chekov and Sulu would have been soooo easy.
Just a head sculpt needed.
That would have been the first thing I did, to get another figure out there cheaply.

Not quite. Lieutenant Sulu's shirt will have a single gold rank band on the sleeves, while Ensign Chekov properly has none. So they couldn't have just recycled Kirk shirts.

^^^ Mego had the color of material and the pattern already worked out, they just needed to leave off the rank bands, saving money right there. Even cheaper than Kirk shirts. :)

I was comparing Checkov to My original Kirk...and must say I'm EXTREMELY please with the Face color! They're pretty darn close!!:yes:

Believe it or not, face color is very hard to get right - especially caucasian
skin. There are a wide range of caucasian beige between type 1 - didn't
get out much - and type 2 Malibu tan.

On top of that, the Chinese had to switch from one type of PVC
to another just before production started last year so that affects
final pigment.

Well, I for one...certainly appreciate all the hard work you & your People in China put into it...cause you NAILED IT!!:wink: The Mego flesh color is pretty important to Me...which is why I often have Dave Mc paint My Resin Heads, because Dave can mix the color PERFECTLY! It's a personal thing, but I prefer cast color to painted color. Chekov probably ought to run closer to 'don't get out much' but he displays well with the others.

One teeny nitpick: Like Khan, his head is a touch small for his body. Would this be another side effect of the new PVC formula?

For my eventual Chekov arrival, I'm simply saving a minty vintage Kirk shirt I'm not using and taking off the rank and adding it to a new female crewman I'm getting later this month... :wink_y:
