Galactica Original Series!

Let's finally do this justice in our favourite scale....

I would like a Cylon mego. I had been thinking about a custom one, but haven't nailed down a head yet. Someone here was doing one, but I never saw a final version.

I'd LOVE to see a good Galactica set!

The Super Knights would be good, and even expanded on to include all of the knights of the Round Table. And this time, produce a Guienevere, Morgan LeFay, Nimue, Niniane, etc.

With Robin Hood, he'd definitely need a Maid Marian.

Does anyone here remember the TV show "Beauty and the Beast"?

It would be great to see a Mego version of Vincent, Father, and Catherine.

#1 Star Trek
no Roman Numerals, no colon, no subtitle, just my favorite childhood toys, and those that should have been. (I would be interested in Animated Series characters too.) I will buy at least one of everything EMCE puts out.

#2 Batman
the 1966-69 TV show with Adam West
I have made some customs, but EMCE getting that license and putting out actual, “real” figures from that series would be a dream come true for me.

#3 Planet of the Apes
I want anything and everything from all five movies, and both TV series. I will buy at least one of everything EMCE makes. Taylor, ANSA Astronauts, Apes in Spacesuits, Mutants, Conquest Apes – bring ‘em on ! I am ready to spend spend spend ! Tim Burton’s POTA ? not interested.

#4 Space: 1999
I have CTVT’s, but I would gladly buy EMCE’s

#5 Gerry Anderson’s U.F.O.
greatly underappreciated, and horribly forgotten by everyone, this show with its silver bodysuits, Nehru jackets, and human-looking aliens in spacesuits was made for Mego-ization

#6 Logan’s Run
I really want 8” scaled repros of those prototypes – I WILL have them someday…..

#7 the Visitors
a series I thought of
Doc’s Alien heads molded in assorted colors with matching colored bodies and different colored bodysuits. I found a guy online who makes Silver Surfer bodysuits, and the shiny material is perfect for these.
(I couldn’t name this series “Aliens” because that means something to us action-figure and SciFi geeks)

#8 WGSH
a big DUH! there
I do not think there is a single registered member of this forum that does not want that, and Green Lantern, Flash, etc etc

#9 Monsters
I have CTVT’s, but I would gladly buy EMCE’s
One can never have too many Monsters, especially in October in my house !

#10 Knights, Robin Hood, Pirates, American West
I will order CTVT’s any day now

#11 The Astronauts
another one of my no-license-required concepts, this time providing us with an assortment of NASA accurate and science fiction inspired spacesuits. Just imagine having a Mego-scaled Lunar Module and two Apollo astronauts. That would bring tears to my eyes…..

#12 Six Million Dollar Man
Steve, Maskatron, Jamie, Fembot, and even Oscar and Bigfoot

#13 Bond, James Bond

#14 Zorro, Lone Ranger and Tonto

The Harry Potter Line might do just well enough . I think if they used Repro Teen titan Bodies and did it very megoesque it would probably have some legs. As for The Greatest American Hero , I think FX tried a Ralph Figure . Not sure how it did. I am actually chasing one of those down myself.

Great Suggestions !

A line of toys that obviously are the original megos withought the license.

Like Reporter for Superman
Millionare for Wayne
even lizard monster for lizard
savage for conan
robot man as iron man
cyclops monster with a hulk body
etc.

Yknow the old figures are not always as recognizable as the character they portray anyhow lets just find a way to get some of the old "cast" back. :-)

Keeping in mind that Sci Fi seems to be a big hit with DST, and they're the ones with the major pull... I suggest:

BSG (the new series as well as the original.) Something along the lines of Modern Starbuck shipping with Classic Starbuck as a wave kind of thing.

Dr Who (who doesn't want an 8 inch line of the many incarnations, and most notably the current incarnation of the Doctor?)

Stargate SGI, Atlantis, whatever... (The 6 inch figures make DST money, why not 8 inch)

Alien Nation ( I just want a Sam Francisco!)

My EMCE wish list: Kung Fu-the Carradine TV series...

I cannot believe that there is finally someone else who thinks this would be cool! I've been saying it for years...

As far as all of the APES suggestions: I agree with them, but it's been said by Dr. Mego himself that the chances of any new APES are very slim, so why even throw out ideas for figures that have a snowballs chance of being made these days?

Haven't they seen her with her head shaved? What could be scarier than that?

(That is a rhetorical question people, we all know what the answer is. And no, I am not going there.)

Let's get back to the discussion at hand.

EMCE should definitely do something that will not get him into trouble with certain companies *cough* DC, Marvel *cough*!

Also, licensing fees cost the earth, so he should do something original.

Fairy tales are a good start.

Who says that Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, etc. HAVE to look like Walt Disney's versions?

There could be two outfits for Cindy; the raggedy one, and the glamorous one, complete with tiara, glass slippers, etc.

Sleeping Beauty doesn't have to be Briar Rose (her alias in the movie), she could just be Beauty. Use the same face mold, but different hair, and different gown.

Snow White, same thing. Put her in a medieval type dress,

I always thought that if you saw one Prince Charming, you saw them all, so Doc could simply have one Prince, but three different hair/eye colors, and outfits.

After reading through all these suggestions, I think it might have been easier to list the lines EMCE shouldnt do.:)

A lot of the suggested lines "shouldn't" be made anyway... Too many of them have too limited appeal to be worth EMCE investing time/money/resources into...(That's something EMCE doesn't need... They need the widest possible audience for their product... A lot of the properties mentioned have miniscule appeal for an up and coming company... If EMCE is going to grow/succeed, they need to sell as many figures as they can, not just a few of a couple figures that would be best left to customs...)

Spyweb007
Dec 27, '08, 5:02 PM
I think Emce needs to cautiosly build on their success, despite what characters we all would like to see. Doc has his foot in the door with Star Trek, and I think should continue to expand on that success. Even though it's only the Original Trek now, With 5 TV series and 11 movies, Trek is a line that could continue for years with plenty of room for expansion and has constant esposure with re-runs of the various series, DVD's, and now new movies on the horizon. I think James Bond is a similar license which has never been done justice in toy form, with what,21? movies and counting. Plenty of material to mine there as well.

JediJaida
Dec 27, '08, 5:15 PM
Wouldn't the licensing fees cost the Earth, Moon, Stars and a couple of other planetary bodies thrown in?

These are realllly lucrative enterprises we are talking about here, and they are not going to just GIVE the license away.

Especially the James Bond people; even if the last movie was a piece of dreck, they are still going to try and get as much money as possible from EMCE in order for him to get the license to the likenesses of the actors.

Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig are all very much identified by their times as Bond, and as such are money makers for the franchise.

I am probably being cynical about this, but I really don't see it happening.

It would be nice if it DID; but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting.

wyldpny
Dec 27, '08, 5:47 PM
Some other Trek figures to consider could be some of the animated Trek figures like Arex and MRess.

I am always fascinated by the lists generated by threads like this.

Some are very obscure characters and some are very popular, but
it confirms my belief that every character would work as a mego.

I wish I could try lines like fairy tales and historical figures, but
the reality is that the only figures that sell well enough are licensed
characters in certain genres.

JediJaida
Dec 28, '08, 2:00 PM
Oh well. You're right.

That's what we're here for, to fill in the gaps that others can't.

I've got my own customs that I'm working on, but I'd like to see other people try for their version of fairy tale characters.

Maybe a 21st century Cinderella? Or Sleeping Beauty?

I'll pretty much support anything EMCE gives us, except TNOTLD series.

That is the only series EMCE won't see a penny of my money and only because I hate the movie (because it scared me to death) and Zombies in general because I can't sleep too good and have bad dreams if I see those kinds of movies..... LOL!!
So if Paul can get us anything else other then zombies and well may be horror slasher figures like Freddy, Jason, ETC. Again because I can't sleep too well and get scared from watching those flicks......

He's got my support 110% with what ever he brings out.

We did mention the universal "classic" monsters right? a Bela Lugosi Dracula, Lon Chaney Jr. Wolfman, karloff or Chaney as the mummy, Karlof as frankenstein or Glen Strange. The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Even maybe the A.I.P Teenage monsters, wolfman, frankenstein (always wanted to see those two fight since it was sorta depicted in how to make a monster.) the female vampire from blood of dracula. The saucer men, hideous sun demon, the one from I married a monster from outer space, hey, it would be pretty cool. call them "Menacing Monsters"

I would like to see the following. All of these ideas I think would have a chance seeing they are being reinvented or brought back to life with new movies (or rumored to be anyways...)
- Lone Ranger / Tonto
- Johnny Quest - It would be awesome to have teen titan type molds of Johnny and Hadji and a Race Bannon with the jet pack. How cool would a figure of the cool Lizard guys with the goggles be?
- ATeam: this might be a stretch but a Mr. T mego would rule
- Mad Max / Road Warrior

More original Trek figures.
we have 2 more old aliens to release and with them make Rand and Chapel
then add Orion Slave girl and Tellorite with LT's Leslie and Kyle
By all means make M'ress and Arex with other yeoman and guest characters
Original Battlestar Galactica Full cast including bridge crew i would get every one.
James Bond and Doctor Who lines i would buy like crazy!!!!!!!
How about trying for Licencing from AC comics and make the FemForce Ladies. Of coures you would need better endowed bodies.
That might show how well comic characters would sell to inspire other companies.
Are there any Public domain superhero characters that you could make. like the ones from Marvel's "the Twelve" and the other "Superpowers" comic?
Just keep them coming whatever you do Paul, and Thanks

I'd like to see EMCE do a Gene Roddenberry exclusive using James' head sculpt (or a variation of it). That Captain Dunsal figure was so cool and only 15 heads got made. I was lucky enough to acquire one. I dressed it, carded it up and gave it to my best friend, who collects Star Trek, for Christmas. He loves it.

Doesn't Diamond Dist, who holds the Star Trek license and has partnered with Dr Mego, also have the license for DC figures thru DC Direct, and Marvel figures through Marvel Select? If they can make Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, etc 6" figures for comic shops, why not Megos too?

It's far beyond time this error of fate be corrected. To have the entire cast from this epic in full 8" glory would be the stuff of many an answered dream I'm sure... INCLUDING MINE!
And if a license could ever be acquired from LucasFilm... hey, I can dream can't I?... a full line of Indie figures would kick major butt too!

I'd love the following...all in 8 inch format of course.

Star Trek
Neptunian
Talosian
Telerite
Tholian
Marta the Orion Slave Girl
Creature M113
Trelane
Harry Mudd
Nurse Chapel
Yeoman Rand
Lt. Arex (Three Armed Alien from the Animated Star Trek)
Lt. M'Ress (Cat Alien from the Animated Star Trek)
Orion Pirate (Animated Star Trek Costume)
Kazinti Warrior (Animated Star Trek Agressive Cat People)

Space 1999
Capt. Koenig
Paul Morrow
Alan Carter
Capt. Zantor
Mysterious Alien
Dr. Russel
Prof. Bergman
Mr. Verducci
Maya
The Taybor

Star Trek and Space 1999 were big hits in our house when I was a kid. I always wanted a Maya figure so she could visit our Mego Enterprise Playset.

I'm guessing they're blocking the use of their likenesses on any figures. The same reason there isn't a Heston figure to go with the Apes line. After those atrocious Mattel figures you'd think they'd at least like to die with a decent looking american figure. At least Landau has the Palitoy figure Bain doesn't even have that.

Feb 18, '09, 10:44 AM
Let's face it folks, we ain't gonna be seeing these figures that we've been naming any time soon.

The actors who starred in them are WAY too well know, and would want WAY too much money for the use of their likeness.

Doc is an excellent guy; his attention to detail is second to none, and he's a wonderful guy on top of that.

We can bug the snot out of him all we like as to what we would like to see, but he's only one person, and he can only make do with what he has.

Not that the ideas we've been kicking around aren't great; they are. But they're not going to happen.

Not unless Doc hits the Megaball for more than 100 million dollars; then he will be able to afford any license his heart desires.

Although, Doc, if you can make the Robin Hood line better than the CTVT crapola that is currently out there, I know I'd be very happy.

Feb 18, '09, 7:06 PM
I wanted to do the knights, pirates, and Robin Hood megos back in 2002,
and I had a friend with money ready to back me.

What kept me from doing it was the fear that there were just not
enough Mego fans to buy the figures. I wasn't looking to get rich
off it, but I could not, in good conscience, take my friend's money
and lose it.

Now that CTV spewed out toxic crap in 8 inch scale - I really don't
want to make them for fear someone would confuse EMCE Toys with
them.

One day, when the toxicity has passed away, I will make them right.

That's only if it deteriorates naturally.

Those things are such cheap crap, they can be easily shattered to itsy bitsy smithereenies, and chucked into the recycling bin.

I'm glad that I buy all of my bodies from Doc. They are great.

I ordered three last week, and he threw in a fourth as a freebie.

*Sigh*, I luv Doc.

From your mouth to the Toy-god's ears, Doc!

I'd love to see nice reissues of those, and Mad Monsters, too! I'd buy em all!

Feb 24, '09, 4:23 AM
Dr Mego I ordered one CTV figure a few weeks ago. It arrived I opened the packaging and the right leg fell off. So I had to send it back to the seller and ask for my money back. So far I have bought 19 EMCE (all Trek and Apes) figures and the most serious problem was one of the boots wasn't on properly and needed to be expanded with hot water to slip on the foot.
I couldn't believe how scrappy the plastic is on the one CTV figure I bought.
No leg ever came off on my original Megos even after the rough and tumble play I subjected them to as a 7 year old (okay I did break Hulks elbow joint and Buck Rogers thumb):smiley13:

Okay,..we all accept CTV made crappy bodies,..but,...they made us figures that we thought never to see in the mego 8" format like The Munsters, remaining characters from Happy Days, and lets not forget SPACE 1999,..even if the main characters werent made,..the line does have nice head sculpts well tailored outfits, that all we had to do was just change the bodies,...they even made us the Legendary Heroes for those of us who couldnt afford the originals,...in my opinion,..i cant be to hard on CTV,..of course,..this is my opinion,...then comes EMCE!!! The best figures around! And do hope they continue bringing us those and other figures we always wanted to have, either repros or originals......so bring in the new sets of:
Neptunian / Chapel
Talos / Vina
Pike / Rand
Mudd / Orion Slave
Number 1 / Salt Vampire

D!n0-M@n
Feb 24, '09, 10:22 AM
Lest we forget:

Mr. Leslie / Mr. Kyle (in red engineering jumpsuit)
Kor / Kang (both in episode correct costumes)
Gary Seven / Roberta Lincoln
Sarek / Amanda
Tellarite / Trelane
"Mirror, Mirror" variants plus Marlena
Dress Uniform variants of the crew
Kirk in casual uniform (version 2, because it looked the best out of the three versions)
Kirk as Romulan / Romulan Commander
"City on the Edge of Forever" Kirk / Spock
Edith Keeler / Captain Christopher
etc, etc, etc..... :wink_y:

Well, I'd love to see more Trek figs come out and I'm all for a Battlestar Gallactica line too. But with the release soon of the Enterprise bridge, what about the Gamma playset? What about even doing a Galleo shuttle? With Didas doing playsets, they added chairs. What I'm saying is, what about accessorizing the figures. Conferance table with a view screen like on Star Trek. Or what about a Weapons Rack, to hold 4 or 5 guns for the Apes line. How about redoing the Mego horses. I know Doc offers horses on his site, but they just don't have that "Mego" look, no offense. The Apes line had this idea down pretty good, with a battering ram, throne, cattapult,...etc. Any way, that is just a few things to think about. Who knows what the future holds, but it's looking good so far.:wink_y:

We are independent... we don't invoke the name; nor do we remake MEGO figures. We are focusing on smaller niche licenses and high quality parts, so we feel like whatever happens is great for MEGO fans, but is not really much of a concern to us as a company. We wish everyone the best!

We need more options for the female figure. Different colors like light or dark brown, and maybe green for those of us into alien customs.

I know that the figures are dyeable, but I'm too darned lazy to do so.

We also need more options for the female heads.

As it is, there is only one female head with rooted hair. She's fine, but I'd like to see her in brunette, black or red hair.

We also need an African American version for those of us who are doing stuff like Storm, etc.

Besides more Classic Trek figures (Chapel, Mudd, Leslie, Neptunian, Rand, Kyle, and Salt Vampire top my list), I agree with two of 60'schild's suggestions: Babylon 5 and Farscape, with B5 as my first choice. Both still have devoted fans and great assortments of characters.

I'm going to have to check out the Seeker stuff.

But speaking of Sam Raimi. I wonder if the Evil Dead Trilogy could be mined? At least an Ash maybe? Or some figures from Army of Darkness. I'm thinking they may go well as collectibles.

I had a thought on something else that might be easy/cheap to license. Lost in Space maybe? That wasn't it but if I think of it, I'll let you know.

I will have to say, Greatest American Hero may be sort of "easy" since it must have had a deal in place once. But that may not be a plus. Anything they would get at this point though is just icing on the cake, right?
