View Full Version : is there any chance someone will do A.J. like sets?

Is it out of the question that either Doc Mego or Castaway could reinvent the Action Jackson idea and make outfits sets? Cap Action revival suits would be keen but rather than super heroes you
Maybe do a more modern approach, say a FBI / spy look with trench coat and fedora? Maybe a western suit or two and military attire that might as easily include dress uniforms as well as fatigues? You could have police outfits, fireman, surgeons, astronauts, nurses, politicians, judges with robe and gavel, maybe a 18th century patriot look with powdered wig. I guess you could go as odd as to make a pharoh's costume or a kings' outfit, a merchant marine....
just a thought.

I'd love to see EMCE do Action Jackson figures.
I don't know whats up with the copy rights of the Action Jackson name or if it is even possible due to licensing.
I have no intrest in collecting the origonal AJ figures, but if EMCE came out with them I would support the line by buying them 100%.

IMO Realistic military sets have 1/6 as its following so I don't see AJ holding up too well ( heck you can get mint on card original sets for less than $20 regularly - I know I love em and bought and opened like 7

Here's an idea.....why not do a new AJ villain to battle AJ PLUS new outfits for our old AJ's.

Well, they didn't use the molds, but Playing Mantis had the AJ license some years back. But I'd really like to see EMCEs of the originals, and some new ones too. For instance, there was never an space suit! (I just used the Fire Fighter set for the space suit.)

Anything that EMCE makes, I'll buy. AJ would be cool as would a new villain for AJ.

I understand your feelings DocD; while I am not being a completist for Emce I have bought at least 2 alien figures in each wave for trek and now have the rest thanks to the FAO sale.
I would love new AJ sets but I am thinking there might be better usage of the time and tooling needed to make new stuff

Yeah, but the trouble with most of those vintage MOC A/J suits is that they didn't (physically) hold up very well... Most of them are so decrepit with age, you could poke a hole thru them without even trying...

Most of it would not be tooling, but the clothing manufacturing, which I have been told by my all seeing Hamster of Knowledge is nowhere near as extensive a job as tooling.
As for AJ...I hate the head they used for AJ. Just about ANYTHING would be better than that mug. I nominate the POTA Astronaut for the new face of AJ. He even LOOKS more like the art for AJ than AJ does.

I'd love to see Indiana Jones parts . A rotocast Harrison head , and megolike Fedora , and Outfit for the 8" body. I wish someone would license the Super Heroes and issue some new mego on the Emce bodies or actual factory made 8" heroes , Like The Wonder Twins, Black Vulcan, Samurai , Apache Chief, Lex Luthor, and well the list can go on and on . :)

After the failure of the Playing Mantis stuff I don't see any way a remake of AJ would happen. Kids just don't play with the no-name stuff anymore. You could not launch an un supported line like AJ, GI Joe, or Capt. Action in today's market. They really don't even support the heroes on a widespread basis if you look at the numbers of figures that hit clearance on a regular basis. That was with comic, movie, and video game support as well as TV advertising. You will never see that with the AJ line. The PM AJ's at K-B were at $1.99 each by the time they disappeared around my area. They didn't even sell at $5.99 which was the original red line price K-B had on em. And that was in a pretty good economy at the time. The Indy movie was not good and I don't think the toy sales were either, based on the lack of restocking there was and the pieces that sat on shelves for a long time. I'm sure on top of the license fee Harrison Ford probably gets a nice chunk of change as well which would be just another blockade from that ever happening. The major stumbling block is always the license fees. Gotta make a lot of figures to alleviate a six figure license fee.

I bought all the AJ stuff at K-B toys one day. The prices were good and a lot of it fit real megos. I don't think the store got another shipment in after that.

Sorry guys I might have been more specific in what I was suggesting.
I am not looking for anyone to remake or reissue Action Jackson figures. I am not big on reissuing any thing that was already made. I merely used it as a suggestion to what I was asking for.
With CastAwya doing Cap Action and Doc doing this Commander X...... is it possible or pragmatic in anyway to offer adventure packs in the style of A.J. , you know accessory packs for the figure.
Rtaher than do the standard A.J. like fair I was thinking Police, doctor, fireman, Haz Mat suit, Spy, mobster, detective, cowboy. I'd strongly urge against sports suits.
That's merely what I was suggesting, that's all.
I don't think an unknown varant on AJ OR DYMANMITE WOULD REALLY WORK. It might be cool though to have militrary suits and such.

I agree with the people who suggested not to use the original AJ head sculpt.
To me, AJ looks like an ugly woman.

That depends on how many drinks you've had!

I think it would be cool if EmCe made a Star Trek accessory pack or two. Something like a red shirt, phaser, communicator, holster, tricorder, and some other odds and ends, maybe a tribble, other weapons from the episodes. Or the accessory packs could be the Starfleet dress uniforms or the Mirror universe uniforms with the red accessories and knife.

I thought about using some of the china made items to make custom outfits package in a limited run myself. If anyone is interested let me know what you'd like to see. Remember I'm pretty much stuck to using what I can get from Dr. Mego and othr places.

Great idea MegomanJess!!
Might be a good way to sneak some of Pauls "banned" items back into the fold. For example the Iron Man suit could become a space suit...or a "firefighter outfit" (as Paul has labelled some other IM items. I would like to see some of the military and jungle outfits redone somehow?

Carded Trek packs would be great! Even just carding up existing outfits would be ok in my book, but all new sets would be even better!!!

I think that ST accessory packs are a great idea! Not just for guys, but for gals as well.
We could have our choice of uniform colors: red, blue or gold, the phaser, communicator and tricorder, tights and boots.
Heck, they could even do female versions of the Romulan and Klingon uniforms! Remember Kang's wife, Mara? And of course, there's the female Romulan Commander.

Actually, new AJ Outfits sound pretty good to me. Maybe this time add more stuff, like with the spy outfit throw in a briefcase and a camera.

I actually remember the PM Action Jackson stuff being way discounted. I was a Store manager for the KB Toys in Watertown, MA about 10 years ago , and Iremember red slashing the prices on them. I never got them because I was not a big fan of Playing Mantis. The only Playing mantis stuff I Invested in was the Rudolph the red nosed Reindeer line, Which My wife and I use as Holiday decorations.

You will end up with 25 different color Ninja Batmans that look nothing like the Detective Super Hero. And another 25 Spidermans blasting something new out of the cheapest plastic on earth.
And don't forget Hulk driving a Buick.
At that point the Happy Meal toys are nicer.
Perhaps the entire industry will fall if we follow this path.
