I was just watching Motel Hell on AMC last night.
I'd hadn't watched it since I seen it new at the drive-in in '80-ish.
Anyway, I was quite let down watching it last night.

I always remembered it as shocking and scary.. with a bit of black humour.

Last night, it just seemed boring.

I wish I hadn't watched it.
It kind of ruined my memory of it.

More than likey that's because AMC edits it's broadcasts.

It's still a good movie. The pics that were in Fangoria magazine back then made it look better than it was. Who can forget the pigheaded farmer with a chainsaw? The pics really put it over the top. But the movie is just as mild as it was back in the day.

Bob(who doesn't watch AMC anymore)

I was going to say the exact same thing, Fangoria even ran a centerfold for this one. Probably one of top 5 horor movie images of the 80's ;although, far from being top 5 horror movies of the 80's.

Sometimes it's best not to rewatch.

I'll never watch another episode of A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf,...
I'll just keep them safely tucked inside my "great memories" chest....

I saw Motel Hell in the eighties, too.
Sitting alone in a movie theatre. The theatre owner always cursed because he had to run the movie for one person.
My own personal movie place.....

Wasn't Rory Calhoun in that? I guess he was just slumming.

Yup, that's him.

I think Motel Hell at best is a campy black comedy with a lot of tongue and cheekiness to it.

It doesn't really seem like it takes itself that seriously. I like it though.

It's part of MGM's Midnite Movies dvd series and it has the far superior Deranged (1974) on the same disc.

I remember it as being one of those so bad its good types. Right up there with Tourist Trap.

Besides Rory Calhoun, the other stars were Grossman from CHiPs and Mrs Ballbricker from Porkies.

Thunderbolt... for some reason when I see the pic of your dog in the Santa suit, it looks like he/she fell from a great height and splattered on impact.

Since we are in the Monster Movie forum, maybe that was the idea?
