A) Some weird creature or monster who terrifies everyone
B) Mad scientist who wants to make mutants or capture humans for experiments
C) Your standard fare of Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Mummy, etc.
D) The psychological thriller that scares the mind

I guess that depends on your definition of classic and horror.
Personally I don't care for the ones I like to refer to as "could possibly happen" horror movies, like Exorcist, Omen, Amityville Horror, etc. (when a satanistic element is the main theme)
One of my favorite movies is Horror of Dracula.
Some others that I like are Dawn of the Dead (original), Alien, Jaws, Silver Bullet, Universal Monsters, etc.
but I also like B-movies like The Brain That Wouldn't Die, Blob, Tarantula, etc.

Werewolves are my favorite monsters...my least favorites...vampires.
I hate vampires...that's why I loved Abbot and Costello Meets Frankenstein...you get to see the Wolf-Man catch that little punk Dracula in bat form...lol.
The reason I loved Van Helsing is because I get to see Van Helsing in werewolf form destroy Dracula...I loved it, lol.
Underworld is another good one...especially on that train cart scene where the werewolves massacre those elite pretentious vampires, lol.

I lean towards b&w oldies. Monsters, spooky stuff or crazed animals, I just prefer the oldies.

Horror movies have been a stale commodity for a while now, which probably explains why the "classics" have seen their sales rise over the past few years. I myself love the Universal monster films because I enjoy the pathos that most of those creatures possess. Most horror films today are just about shock value (trash language, brutality, and graphic violence) and how much syrup and food coloring you can splash against the camera lens (which requires very little skill):yuk:. I'm encouraged to see an actual remake of the Wolfman coming to the big screen in February 2009. It's certainly a sign that the horror industry is ready to start looking back and re-evaluate their craft.

Amen to that. And while technically not a monster I include zombies in that list as well

I love the Universal era monsters, Hammer Horror, Post Atomic Craziness, what may have you. Much of my leaning is 30's to the early 70's.
I'm just not a fan of "Slasher Flicks", no Jason, Freddy, Michael Myers, Jigsaw for me thanks. It's probably why I stopped going to Horror cons, it's getting less about the classics.

Throw a healthy dose of kaiju films into that mix and you'd have my preferences as well. I started out with Ultra Man and moved on to a life-long love of Godzilla. I was probably a teen before I really began watching the Universal Monsters in earnest.

Oh i totally meant Kaiju by "Post Atomic Craziness", I got my love for Universal when I was 10 or 11 but Godzilla? I don't remember not loving him.

Well, I love creature flicks myself, like Tarantula, Them!, The Monolith Monsters, The Giant Claw, The Collosus of NY, The Giant Gila Monster, Willard, Ben, etc. I guess in second place would come William Castle films.

What I like most, is a classic haunted house story.
Leave most to the imagination.
No CGI.
Just a strong, stark atmosphere, like in the original Haunting.

2. Aliens
3. Zombies

Hmmmm....
Monsters; weird, and lots of 'em! Big fan of the 50's Bs. I don't care how bad the acting is, or how cheap the effects; as long as I'm seeing some strange, completely implausible monstrosity waddling across the screen.

Zombies. I also like a good ghost story. I never much cared for the slasher flicks like Nightmare on Elmstreet, Friday the 13th etc....but a good zombie flick or ghost movie is always fun. Don't care as much for the recent zombie moive like the the DOTD remake. Of course I have to watch them by myself since the wife won't watch scary movies and the kids are still to young

For me, IF it could possibly happen, THAT is what makes it even scarier!! I don't see the satanic element as "real" so none of those movies ever scared me. I did however find them entertaining. One of the first times I can say that I was scared as an adult was JAWS. When the diver goes down to look at the ship wreck and that decapitated head pops into view and scares the diver, THAT scared the crap out of me! Being a child of the 50's- any good black and white horror movie is at the top of my fav list. I always go for the monsters as being my total favorites- regardless of which generation they come to us through.

That's exactly what I meant. That kind of stuff did scare me as a kid. Satan and all that was very real to me. I knew monsters and aliens weren't real so even though the movies scared me, they didn't scare me as much as satanistic stuff.

I saw that when I was 10 and that scared the crap out of me and gave me nightmares. Not as much as Carrie, though. That damn movie gave me nightmares for years.

The most recent films that i found to be scary since they "COULD" happen is the HOSTEL series. I could see that storyline playing out for real in this day and time, so that makes it a very scary premise. But I also like the gore factor! :tool:
