Today we journey back to 1973 to witness the birth of one of the hottest toys of the 1970's the Ideal Evel Knievel line (http://www.plaidstallions.com/evel/index.html)! If you you were a child in the mid seventies there was no way you weren't aware of this toy.
Coming Next Week: Plaidstallions jumps forward to 1982

The EK stunt cycle may very well the greatest TOY ever made. Sure the figure was feminie looking, and a bendy. BUT for sheer enjoyment, there is nothing quite like cranking up that "energizer" and letting Evel fly across tile floor and up a homemade cardboard box ramp. And if he landed without crashing, that was just iceing on the cake.
I had the stunt cycle as a kid, and my parents got me the Playing Mantis reissue when it came out. I still get it out and reve it up now and then.

God how I loved that toy. It was virtually indestructible. Of course, it inspired me and my friends to jump our bikes over crude plywood ramps .. and right over the handlebars.

Exactly. Don't get me wrong, I loves me Megos of course, but I'd have to say that the EK cycle was the greatest toy that actually did something. I have very fond memories of the thing......

Did someone say VIVA Knievel??
I Love the movie!! I Love the toys!!
I only had a chopper without the energizer and one EK with white suit and one red race suit EK figure growing up. It was a pain haveing to push the chopper on the ground to rev it up, my mom would never buy me the energizer for it.
It was always a treat to use my buddies so I could make it go right.
Here is some of my EK collection. This is a very old pic of my collection. Some toys I nolonger have and some them are new ones.
I've got a bunch of boxed ones now. I also have almost all the new EK toy reissues todate as well.
