Does anybody here collect or invest in Gold or Silver coins? Bars? If so where is a safe place to buy Gold & Silver coins online at cost? Is Gold & Silver even a good investment these days?

Thanks!!

Some one on this board recently received a complete roll of mercury dimes. I don't think gold and silver is a good investment right now. They have gone through the roof for the last two or three years, so they are pretty high.

Remember, buy low, sell high!!!

I dabbled in silver bullion for a little while like 10-ish years ago.
I got bored quickly and sold it all off.

Great time to sell, bad time to buy.

Anyone recommends where to sell gold?

My mom has lots of gold religious medallions and necklaces that she wants to sell..but doesn't know where. She has about 5 ounces worth of gold...but then again...we don't know the quality of the gold itself.

I keep seeing that commercial about Cash 4 Gold...but I'm very weary of that.

That thing on TV looks like a rip off. A jeweler should buy scrap gold. Gold is in the neighborhood of $800 per ounce (24 karat). So 12 karat is $400 per ounce, etc.

Jeweler will probably pay better than a pawn shop, which also buys scrap gold.

I Always wanted Gold coins. But Now the Price is just to High to even think About Buying Any. I do have Some Pretty Awesome Gold Necklaces. They keep me happy For Now, LOL. I'm also getting that Weird Vibe from that Send us your Gold commercial. You send your stuff and they send you the cash. Well what if you deserved more. What are the Chances of you getting more money or even your Gold back if your not happy.

I have been a coin collector for years and have some gold and silver coins.

That's the easiest way to buy it. Unfortunately, as others have stated, silver and gold have both made a run so it isn't cheap. Also, the U.S. mint charges a premium on spot prices so prices are higher than $800 an ounce.

Most people on the coin collecting forums suggest buying older coins off of Ebay if you are looking to strictly get into coins for it's metal content. I haven't done it but they say you can buy coins that were in high production (so they really have no collectibilty value to them) at basically spot prices so that would probably be the way to go if you wanted to invest in precious metals because they are fairly easy to buy and sell and collectors say that the prices always move with the spot prices.
